  • This really is an outstanding piece. I keep coming back to it for inspiration.

Which version of Mod Podge are you using for the sealing?

(I've been trying other sealants, with no success on the Rub n Buff)

  • @w0mblemania - I use the matte version. Gloss is the enemy. I suggest using the rub n buff on the outside of the sealant. I do not use sealant on most of my work, just high quality paint. It was necessary opn this piece to stabilize the tape.

  • @enganear Ah, I see.

Does that prevent the rub n buff from rubbing off?

Before you replied, I tried putting PVC tape on to the polyethylene bottle, then I put rub n buff on the PVC tape.

This worked really well for the silver rub n buff, but the Gold is very problematic.

I put Mod Podge matte on to the silver rub n buff, but unfortunately, it dulls it down just like every other sealant I've tried.

  • Wow, nice job.

Admittedly it looks rather too stylish for a German gun. I'd say Italian, but you know best about these matters. :)

(There's also a little bit of Lynchian Dune influence there too.)

Any chance of putting up tutorial/how-to videos for a piece like this? It'd be fascinating to see how it progresses.

  • @w0mblemania - There are many base guns in this class that are impossible to mod simply because they are impossible to paint. The reservoirs are almost always made of polyethylene and no paint will stick. On this particular gun, the reservoir section was bright green. I solved this by wrapping the tank with black vinyl electrical tape to give a spiral effect like a Damascus barrel. I then colored the tape with silver Rub and Buff metallic wax and sealed it with Mod Podge.

  • @enganear - This weapon has not gotten many hits here, but it remains one of my favorites because of its lines and the way it feels in the hand.

  • @enganear Thank you for the feedback.

Does sealing the Rub and Buff with Mod Podge affect its look at all?

  • truly spectacular.
