For me it sounds really outdated and lacks passion, UB40's was pure magic. Sometimes covers improve over the originals, not always the original being the best one.
In this case saying that the original is much better than the cover seems so full of shit, but hey it's all about taste. Just stop comparing and bashing to other groups if you like this version better, can't stop you from doing it, but then you know you're indeed a douche.
It's fucking hilarious, a bunch of people tryng to look different and tasteful about music. But they only look like fools.
How many comments bashing UB40 do you see on a video of them?.
Saying that you prefer this version to all the others is one thing, but comparing it to another popular group and criticizing it, then that's personal and trying to get attention.
Saying you prefer "black" artists to white ones is a rascist comment to both, we all the same.
@Krypt1kal Most of them are liars, and hadn't heard this version prior to 'youtube' anyway.
They're trying to act like old school roots reggae fans, while theyre just 17 year old children who don't own a single CD or LP, and know the UB40 version from radio or tv.
And now i'am king and my queen will come at the dawn......

no need to compare lord creator and ub40, as a jamaican ub40 holds a special place to jamaica, there version is wonderful so is this one. It comes down to a matter of different taste
@lauwnus1 this was a song i loved from my skinhead days but dont knock UB40 they loved the sound that came to england from jamaca and kept it alive , now people can go back and hear the originals thanks to the net and you tube
I can see why most people prefer the UB40 copy. It sounds more modern and poppy. I personally prefer Lord Creator's more soulful original much better. I like hearing traces of R&B in the original as well.
Please stop comparing Lord Creator with UB 40. As a Jamaican I can honestly say we (Jamaicans) love both versions but Lord Creators version holds a special place. UB 40 is one of the few non Jamaican reggae bands that has gained the respect of the Jamaican peoples.
@kwacou I disagree and i am a white U.K lad. Ub40 did nothing but ruin the originals and they had no intention of paying royalties! Ub40 are fucking scum, the only decent thing to come from ub40 is Bitty Mclean.
you are absolutely right, but look at the number of views of UB40's version and this one lol big difference and when I heard that song UB40 was the first thing that popped in my mind lol
The Original and Best...though it was UB40 who first made me aware of this track...after all it went to number 1 in the charts when I was 13 years old!
I love this song. I actually had never heard it before and I work in a tanning salon and this was on a cd they play in the shop and I fell in love with it and I keep playing it over and over again.
Paris Hilton is neither smart enough nor educated enough to find this song and rip it off. The people she hired are responsible for that. Don't get me wrong though---screw her anyway. : )
Fuck ub40 & ub40, makes me sick how them bastards made more than the originals. When they sounded shit etc. Mind you only real Jamaicans would respect this kinda music.
I understand what you are saying, but at least they gave the writers/singers of the tunes they covered some money. Lord Creator bought his house from the money received from UB40, Winston Francis as well and a few others. Countless artists living in sub standard conditions because they were ripped off. They didn't understand the business fully, but they sang from their heart. On another note the Jamaican artists covered a lot of songs in rocksteady era as well but covered them so good.
Ub40 ruined there songs man! & had NO intensions of paying a penny until they was threatened with court! I am white myself so this has nout to do with race, i just don't like White reggae/artists! Maybe 2 Reggae tunes ever, i like by a white artist.
I like the odd few, however it's down to your own personal taste....Personally i love OLD Reggae/Dub/Ska & i think a lot of white men have attempted to cover Reggae tunes & ruined them, i am white myself & tbh i don't really like Blacks, however i love there music & think Reggae especially should be left to them as white men can't sing or mix & tend to ruin tunes when they try cover them!
It's been 31 years since they've been on stage and they are still very much respected throughout the world! True gurus in reggae music all agree that this is one of the greatest reggae bands of our time and one doesn't need much proof to believe that. It's all in their songs and in the way they continue to deliver year after year! Nobody could have done this song better! And frankly, I think UB40 could care less about your bigoted thoughts because they are as powerful and favored as ever!
Ok, first of all...if you are white, then act white. You're obviously confused with who you are and you are trying to take it out on artists, who are successful and adored all over the world. Music is about expression. Reggae music specifically is about spiritual declaration and the amazing thing about it is that it allows us to abstain from taboos. There are no taboos in music. Maybe if you stopped being so stubborn and ignorant, you would be able to appreciate good music without any bias.
If i was acting black THN ID BE TYPIN LYK DIS INIT! Seriously lad you know absolute fuck all about me or Reggae or Dub so just pissoff & go type to some1 on your level. Ub40 are a pile of shit, go listen to the originals!!!! That is if you know who done them originally :)
Spoken like a true gentleman, I agree with you 100% brother. Music is music, I have the originals and UB49s versions too, its all good if we remember just how good the vibe is.
As for UB40, they didn't ruin anything! Lord Creator only gained from the success that UB40 brought to this song. They are an incredibly talented band and those who are skeptical about UB40's popularity and musical accomplishments should pay a visit to Jamaica and see for themselves how much the locals love their songs. That's real success to me; they are not only accepted, but they are admired and praised for their originality and for their ability to capture the essence of reggae music.
Well said :) I'm not Jamaican either, but have always regarded reggae as the greatest genre. Reggae shatters stereotypes and preconceived notions and most importantly, brings people together. I saw UB40 live last night in NY and it was an amazing feeling to be part of that crowd. People of all colors and ages were jamming to beautiful music; they were united as one. I think that's one of UB40's greatest strength - helping people put their differences aside and embrace the power of music!
Mate, Lord Creator was homeless and destitute when UB40 recorded this. The money he earnt in royalties helped him get back on his feet. The bloke is eternally grateful to them. If UB40's covers mean that folk look to the original versions of the songs, isn't it a good thing????
@matelot95 Yes, and that's the whole point right there. The Labour of Love albums were a beautiful thing, rescuing many of the original artists from poverty, and as you say reminding people of the originals. Lord Creator can be seen wearing the hat on the UB40 video.
Thanks so much for this. Awesome

Bullshit. I am not Jamaican and I have the deepest respect for this stuff. Don't be so hasty to pass judgment. Good music can be appreciated by all.
