  • Thanks so much for this. Awesome

  • Never heard this one.Sounds good ,but U.B.40 sounds superb.

  • the original... best version....

  • For me it sounds really outdated and lacks passion, UB40's was pure magic. Sometimes covers improve over the originals, not always the original being the best one.

In this case saying that the original is much better than the cover seems so full of shit, but hey it's all about taste. Just stop comparing and bashing to other groups if you like this version better, can't stop you from doing it, but then you know you're indeed a douche.

    Cheers.

  • It's fucking hilarious, a bunch of people tryng to look different and tasteful about music. But they only look like fools.

How many comments bashing UB40 do you see on a video of them?.

Saying that you prefer this version to all the others is one thing, but comparing it to another popular group and criticizing it, then that's personal and trying to get attention.

Saying you prefer "black" artists to white ones is a rascist comment to both, we all the same.

Much respect to Lord Creator, but...

  • @Krypt1kal Most of them are liars, and hadn't heard this version prior to 'youtube' anyway.

They're trying to act like old school roots reggae fans, while theyre just 17 year old children who don't own a single CD or LP, and know the UB40 version from radio or tv.

  • maybe the ub 40 can clean his shoes

  • Rich Reggae - IriE

  • And now i'am king and my queen will come at the dawn......

Definitivamente, la musica bajo no se de donde y se quedo a vivir en jamaica, no hay mejor musica en el mundo, Saludos desde Cartagena de Indias, Colombia!

Lord Creator - King & Queen

  • I love this song forever and always. SIMON4186

  • Quoted - "The first Labour Of Love went Top 10 in England and America, and yielded UB40’s first-ever No. 1 hit, Red Red Wine. The second included Kingston Town, which not only gifted a great, but previously obscure song with global recognition, but radically changed the life of Lord Creator, who was able to pay urgent medical bills and take his family out of poverty with the royalties it earnt for him.

  • This is ORIGINAL

  • superb.......unique.......never again tunes like this.....jamaican music is gone to shit...... bombo klatt

  • Thumbs up if you came here because of Soepzooi trying to lecturing us in good music.

This beats the ub40 one by a long shot.

  • Thumbs up if you have found this song by reading an article about "Kingston Town (song)" on wikipedia

  • when i hear this song....make me cry...wanna go home...

  • i dont know why, but this song always make me melancholic and nostalgic, a great song!

  • Classic.....REAL singing, real music....a gem! Thanks for sharing.

  • I love both versions. This is the original and UB40 did a great job also. Peace & Love!

  • Ain't nothing raw about this original, perfect performance and production[ the vocal is a bit distant here but not on the original vinyl]

  • eyyy! Lord Creator is trinidadian, badboybaldy get your facts straight

  • @naisg

Let's put it this way - he was born in Trinidad but he is a Jamaican citizens, ok. He even made a song that he is not leaving paradise (Jamaica) to go back to Trinidad. Thanks for giving us one of your best sons.

  • I'm so glad Paris Hilton stole this, got sued, and made Lord Creator some money.

  • this song is one of the mosy beautiful songs to come out k jamaica so lovely ...and yes ub40 did great to it too . very nice song ....reminds me of my younger days in london ...bless

  • the "backbeat" in this song is so much better than in the version of UB40

  • It kills me when people think ub40 wrote all those songs. Yeah right, like they wrote many rivers. pbbfft. what a joke! I personally think ub40 reeeealllly sucks..

  • @peelincaps i know what you mean people dont do they home work about songs lazy hey lol...but ub40 wasnt bad song hey mate smiling well i liked it ...but you are right its been around along longer then ub40 hey ..

    bless mate big up

  • @peelincaps you sir are a fucking moron....

wanna explain why the ub40 version has over 6 million views and this one has only 38,300?

  • @PreySim couldn't say but I can say this - SUCK MY DICK! muahaahahahhaahaa!

  • @PreySim Because that one had the exposure and sleek recording to make it super accessible? Look, I'm not saying the UB40 version is better or worse but calling someone a 'fucking moron' because they expressed their opinion (he specifically said 'I personally think') is a bit ....well, silly. If you're eager to insult quickly don't feel offended when people return that courtesy.

  • @5anjii ill keep it simple: as I said, let the numbers talk, most ppl hear about kingston town and they go "oh UB40 UB40" but this gay said UB40 sucks. he insulted me so bad I had to go to the bathroom

  • @PreySim Fair enough I suppose, but he wasn't gunning for you (at first) just expressing his opinion on UB40.

  • my fav fav fav reggae song of all time. thanks for posting it.

  • Sweet!

  • nice and real version...

  • no need to compare lord creator and ub40, as a jamaican ub40 holds a special place to jamaica, there version is wonderful so is this one. It comes down to a matter of different taste

  • @timeoutdean big ups mate for say that bless ...

  • @badboybaldy1 much respect

  • First time hearing this original version, I like a lot better and I loved the UB40 cover!

  • lovely. thanks.

  • Agreed but this is also very very nice :)

  • yeah,very spontaneous and native!

    Hugs from Italy.

  • Just sounds right....

  • stay rebel stay rude!!!

  • i can't front ub40 did a great job with their cover.. but u think they really can test the original??

    puhhhleeeease :(

  • I agree with IAINoodle. The UB40 version and this one are equally wonderful.

  • This is way better than the UB40 version.

  • @lauwnus1 this was a song i loved from my skinhead days but dont knock UB40 they loved the sound that came to england from jamaca and kept it alive , now people can go back and hear the originals thanks to the net and you tube

  • @lauwnus1 ub40 was the DEFINATIVE version. This is good aswell but it depends on what your heard first

  • Alright what's better: This, or Paris Hilton's version renamed Stars are Blind???

    Just kidding.... she sucks

  • I can see why most people prefer the UB40 copy. It sounds more modern and poppy. I personally prefer Lord Creator's more soulful original much better. I like hearing traces of R&B in the original as well.

  • skinhead! oi oi oi!

  • beautiful

    i love both versions equally

    and so should everyone

    hows that for an opinion!?

  • Please stop comparing Lord Creator with UB 40. As a Jamaican I can honestly say we (Jamaicans) love both versions but Lord Creators version holds a special place. UB 40 is one of the few non Jamaican reggae bands that has gained the respect of the Jamaican peoples.

  • @kwacou I disagree and i am a white U.K lad. Ub40 did nothing but ruin the originals and they had no intention of paying royalties! Ub40 are fucking scum, the only decent thing to come from ub40 is Bitty Mclean.

  • @kwacou Very well said. Your statement made a very point to both versions, Lord Creators and UB40.

  • All da people sayin dey prefer the ub40 version..Pure Babylon

  • I love the UB40 version better

  • Meh I think otherwise, but people have their opinions.

  • you are absolutely right, but look at the number of views of UB40's version and this one lol big difference and when I heard that song UB40 was the first thing that popped in my mind lol

  • Shame really this guy deserves a bit more credit, to say the least.

  • Just Lovely! Brings back Such sweet memories- thanks

  • much better then ub40

  • this is one song where you don't need to to see "UB40" anywhere near it. Such a gret tune.

  • UB40 is a good version, but you just can't beat the raw sound of the original!!

  • UB40 's good, but this....

    Damn, this rulez!!!!

    Respect for Lord Creator!

  • this song is wonderful, my favourite is ub40 though

  • this song sums up the kingston i remember ! :(

    homesick...sigh

  • You're entitled to your opinion and it's just that...An opinion.

Harmony isn't the chief emphasis here. You can prefer one version without critiquing another can't you?

  • The Original Always the Best Version, LORD CREATOR the Real Sak/Reggae rude Boy.

  • The Original and Best...though it was UB40 who first made me aware of this track...after all it went to number 1 in the charts when I was 13 years old!

  • why are you guys fighting? Thats not what reggae music is about....

good vibes, lift me up ;)

  • Oh to be 15 again!!!

  • que buena rola

  • reggae forever "skinhead"

  • UB40's rendition of this song is great.

    The original is great.

    They're just great, simply great.

  • I love this song. I actually had never heard it before and I work in a tanning salon and this was on a cd they play in the shop and I fell in love with it and I keep playing it over and over again.

  • UB40 DENIED BOB MARLEY

    UB40 DENIED RASTAFARI

    fuck those posers

  • incredible voice ,people

  • ub40 kills it

  • any one know where i can jus get the riddim/instrumental?

  • better than UB40...

  • Lord creator isnt even jamaican.. he was trinidadian

  • LOVE DIS TUNE MANY THANKS

  • nice post big up

  • i love this song so much, fuck paris hilton for ripping off on this song

  • Paris Hilton is neither smart enough nor educated enough to find this song and rip it off. The people she hired are responsible for that. Don't get me wrong though---screw her anyway. : )

  • amen to that

  • Back to original carribean music! Brilliant!

  • Fuck ub40 & ub40, makes me sick how them bastards made more than the originals. When they sounded shit etc. Mind you only real Jamaicans would respect this kinda music.

  • I understand what you are saying, but at least they gave the writers/singers of the tunes they covered some money. Lord Creator bought his house from the money received from UB40, Winston Francis as well and a few others. Countless artists living in sub standard conditions because they were ripped off. They didn't understand the business fully, but they sang from their heart. On another note the Jamaican artists covered a lot of songs in rocksteady era as well but covered them so good.

  • Ub40 ruined there songs man! & had NO intensions of paying a penny until they was threatened with court! I am white myself so this has nout to do with race, i just don't like White reggae/artists! Maybe 2 Reggae tunes ever, i like by a white artist.

  • I have this same original on 45 and UB40 did no justice to this song. At least they paid for it...

  • i think its stupid saying I DONT LINKE WHITE REGGAE/ARTISTS.

i'm from germany and we have lotsa great reggae artists: gentleman, jahcoustix and many more...

collie buddz and matisyahu aint black either!

  • I like the odd few, however it's down to your own personal taste....Personally i love OLD Reggae/Dub/Ska & i think a lot of white men have attempted to cover Reggae tunes & ruined them, i am white myself & tbh i don't really like Blacks, however i love there music & think Reggae especially should be left to them as white men can't sing or mix & tend to ruin tunes when they try cover them!

  • It's been 31 years since they've been on stage and they are still very much respected throughout the world! True gurus in reggae music all agree that this is one of the greatest reggae bands of our time and one doesn't need much proof to believe that. It's all in their songs and in the way they continue to deliver year after year! Nobody could have done this song better! And frankly, I think UB40 could care less about your bigoted thoughts because they are as powerful and favored as ever!

  • Ok, first of all...if you are white, then act white. You're obviously confused with who you are and you are trying to take it out on artists, who are successful and adored all over the world. Music is about expression. Reggae music specifically is about spiritual declaration and the amazing thing about it is that it allows us to abstain from taboos. There are no taboos in music. Maybe if you stopped being so stubborn and ignorant, you would be able to appreciate good music without any bias.

  • If i was acting black THN ID BE TYPIN LYK DIS INIT! Seriously lad you know absolute fuck all about me or Reggae or Dub so just pissoff & go type to some1 on your level. Ub40 are a pile of shit, go listen to the originals!!!! That is if you know who done them originally :)

  • Spoken like a true gentleman, I agree with you 100% brother. Music is music, I have the originals and UB49s versions too, its all good if we remember just how good the vibe is.

  • As for UB40, they didn't ruin anything! Lord Creator only gained from the success that UB40 brought to this song. They are an incredibly talented band and those who are skeptical about UB40's popularity and musical accomplishments should pay a visit to Jamaica and see for themselves how much the locals love their songs. That's real success to me; they are not only accepted, but they are admired and praised for their originality and for their ability to capture the essence of reggae music.

  • Bullshit. I am not Jamaican and I have the deepest respect for this stuff. Don't be so hasty to pass judgment. Good music can be appreciated by all.

  • Well said :) I'm not Jamaican either, but have always regarded reggae as the greatest genre. Reggae shatters stereotypes and preconceived notions and most importantly, brings people together. I saw UB40 live last night in NY and it was an amazing feeling to be part of that crowd. People of all colors and ages were jamming to beautiful music; they were united as one. I think that's one of UB40's greatest strength - helping people put their differences aside and embrace the power of music!

  • Mate, Lord Creator was homeless and destitute when UB40 recorded this. The money he earnt in royalties helped him get back on his feet. The bloke is eternally grateful to them. If UB40's covers mean that folk look to the original versions of the songs, isn't it a good thing????

  • @matelot95 Yes, and that's the whole point right there. The Labour of Love albums were a beautiful thing, rescuing many of the original artists from poverty, and as you say reminding people of the originals. Lord Creator can be seen wearing the hat on the UB40 video.

  • Sweet sweet memories!!

  • Hahaha paris hilton, rip off

  • Great post , love it !! :)

  • Wonderful!

  • Classic, exc\ellent post.
