Everyone has their own opinion. This is my personal favorite guitar player. His phrasing is .......He's just my favorite guitar player of all time. (Yes I now that's saying a lot) Just saw him do a Coltrane song live and my jaw was dropped for 15 minutes. Incredible musician.
We learned from the Austin news on December 27th that Bill Maddox was killed in his home. It is tragic for his wife and family, and for the Austin, Tx music community. Bill was an amazing talent but an even more amazing person. God bless you. We will miss you, but never forget you.
@977eli Well he doesn't have the line-up here that I think everyone is used to. I think people would recognize the line-up better had Kyle Brock and Tommy Taylor been a part of it.
Its interesting to note that all these guitar virtuosos didn't get there by trying to sound like someone else. So, I think Eric would say, if he were here, is not to try to sound like him, but to find your own sound and get really good at that instead.
Eric Johnson is a living legend, it's incredible that we are contemporan with him,,I don't understand why he doesn't have concerts in Europe, 'cause for me is not a cheap thing to travel over Atlantic, but who knows mabe this year i will ,,it worth ....GOD bless him
I actually heard him make a mistake, even the best guitar players can still flub it it up once in a while but most people would miss it anyway because he also knows how to fix it quick, anyways love his style and picking In other videos he sounds like he likes to use the diminished scale a lot, I love to use that scale but it must be used correctly at the right time if you know what I mean, great video thanks
SAtch cant play blues? Search for red hous, search for little wing. search for paul john and joe impro over always with me, he really does these tasty bluesy lines that are just from above.
You are dead on about that. his speed combine with odd tunings, let alone odd chords make it harder than hell. never heard of the software. where can i get? i learn well from paper, its pretty much mandatory when your in uni, hahaha.
He does it himself... he is such a motherfucker when it comes to tone alone and on top of it his speed, fluidity, phrasing and articulation are unmatched. He's the kind of guy that makes you want to just put your guitar away. He's TOO good!
One of the few guys who's solos I enjoy.Forget Dimeola,Yngwie whoever...
He is so fluid and seemless across not only the neck but though his styles and techniques.Unlike other fusion guys he has an ear for tone and a sophisticated vibrato and bends..his UN-metallic runs are like flurries of colored dots,so cool.
Great use of wide intervals . This is how a Strat should sound . I feel like i've Tuned in to a Pirate radio station , and am hearing someones take of how music should sound , on this planet . He's just Ripping on this in the second verse he hits a pedal and gets a chimey sound , kind of like a piano sound his chord voicings are a trip .
Groso total... la verdad que no lo conocía hasta hace una semana, pero viendo varios videos de él , no me sorprende que haya participado del G3... Es realmente muuuuy groso tocando

He is a brilliant guitarist, there's no denying. But he just can't play blues.
anonymouslolxD 2 years ago
Why? he plays blues-rock and blues-metal.
He can play blues, just not the real, light blues.
Search for his Made of Tears 2006 video, he has really great impros there.

I was just caught in EJ's playing and the fact that he is especially distinguishable.
