  • Everyone has their own opinion. This is my personal favorite guitar player. His phrasing is .......He's just my favorite guitar player of all time. (Yes I now that's saying a lot) Just saw him do a Coltrane song live and my jaw was dropped for 15 minutes. Incredible musician.

  • 5:58! Eat your Whammy pedal, Satriani!

  • @MrTest1986 Or learn to read music.

  • miss Bill Maddox-such a loss

  • Eric Johnson-"The standard by which all are judged".

  • We learned from the Austin news on December 27th that Bill Maddox was killed in his home. It is tragic for his wife and family, and for the Austin, Tx music community. Bill was an amazing talent but an even more amazing person. God bless you. We will miss you, but never forget you.

  • Couldn't help but realize that no one else gives the other band members any credit. Come on guys, not very nice.

  • @977eli Well he doesn't have the line-up here that I think everyone is used to. I think people would recognize the line-up better had Kyle Brock and Tommy Taylor been a part of it.

  • @ westcoast1965

or just work harder. ha but he has a tone unlike anyone else. amazing player.

  • wow Eric is awesome player !!!

  • thanks for puttin the vid up dude. and its startin to piss me off that no matter where i go i cant find any of Erics cds.

  • Its interesting to note that all these guitar virtuosos didn't get there by trying to sound like someone else. So, I think Eric would say, if he were here, is not to try to sound like him, but to find your own sound and get really good at that instead.

  • This shit´s not on dvd... Thanks men for uploading this stuff. It´s worth it

  • this so cool!! .. looks like as he plays his guitar.. its jst fretless.... absolutley perfect!!!!

  • has eric ever poped a string wile in performance? O.o

  • Eric Johnson is a living legend, it's incredible that we are contemporan with him,,I don't understand why he doesn't have concerts in Europe, 'cause for me is not a cheap thing to travel over Atlantic, but who knows mabe this year i will ,,it worth ....GOD bless him

  • someone has the TAB ??? the intro is so great

  • Lots of stuff in minor7 scales, does that make it blues? Don't know & don't care. Riff at 5:58 is wicked....

  • But, can you say to me, what is blues really?

  • He's not playing blues, He's playing Fusion you morons.

  • It's all blues inspired...

  • I actually heard him make a mistake, even the best guitar players can still flub it it up once in a while but most people would miss it anyway because he also knows how to fix it quick, anyways love his style and picking In other videos he sounds like he likes to use the diminished scale a lot, I love to use that scale but it must be used correctly at the right time if you know what I mean, great video thanks

  • SAtch cant play blues? Search for red hous, search for little wing. search for paul john and joe impro over always with me, he really does these tasty bluesy lines that are just from above.

  • Satch throws too many notes

  • fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

  • I think that is the best way to learn. Learn to actually hear the notes and find them yourself by your hearing.

  • There are 2 types of guitar. Fender Stratocasters and others.

  • You are dead on about that. his speed combine with odd tunings, let alone odd chords make it harder than hell. never heard of the software. where can i get? i learn well from paper, its pretty much mandatory when your in uni, hahaha.

  • i was worried about someone saying that. i can do most artists by ear, but ej is much tougher.

  • anyone know of a tab for this?

  • you guys should check out his version of " Red House" While on the G3 Tour 96.. Awesome

  • Satch ruins that.

  • He is a brilliant guitarist, there's no denying. But he just can't play blues.

  • Why? he plays blues-rock and blues-metal.

He can play blues, just not the real, light blues.

Search for his Made of Tears 2006 video, he has really great impros there.

  • your a fucking idiot

  • @anonymouslolxD cant play blues? then i suppose stevie ray vaughan plays metal...

  • WOW!!!

  • 喜欢!!!!!!!!

  • llove the intro. why ..... I don't know :D:D just do!

  • That outro solo is sick..wow :)

  • Who the Fuck mods this guy's amps!?

  • He does it himself... he is such a motherfucker when it comes to tone alone and on top of it his speed, fluidity, phrasing and articulation are unmatched. He's the kind of guy that makes you want to just put your guitar away. He's TOO good!

  • @westcoast1965 agreed.. his phrasing is beautiful and very clean. He also has a fantastic control over dynamics and vibrato... an absolute genius...

  • I love this song... pretty good for the shape im in! "Eric is a alien love child"

  • One of the few guys who's solos I enjoy.Forget Dimeola,Yngwie whoever...

He is so fluid and seemless across not only the neck but though his styles and techniques.Unlike other fusion guys he has an ear for tone and a sophisticated vibrato and bends..his UN-metallic runs are like flurries of colored dots,so cool.

  • i agree man EJ is great, but you cant just wipe out all the great stuff al di meola has done. some his jazz/fusion stuff is just superb

  • Sure thing,Di Meola has mad playing ability agreed.

I was just caught in EJ's playing and the fact that he is especially distinguishable.

  • yes absolutely - i love EJ's tone -its always so good and yes alway so crisp and clear he never seems to "mush" the notes together

  • HE IS A ALIEN LOVE CHILD !

  • what hedrix song is the lick on 5:50 from?

  • u sure it even IS from a hendrix song?:)

  • That first GTr solo is so hot the string skips sound like a 100 pound violin

  • cool arpeggio riff on 4:30 gotta love the use of different substitute tonalities in this guys playing

  • Eric doesn't credit for his singing. he's got a nice pure tone to his voice.

  • This is good ^^

  • Oh you're in great shape honey!

  • a little hendrix lick at 5:58

  • Great use of wide intervals . This is how a Strat should sound . I feel like i've Tuned in to a Pirate radio station , and am hearing someones take of how music should sound , on this planet . He's just Ripping on this in the second verse he hits a pedal and gets a chimey sound , kind of like a piano sound his chord voicings are a trip .

  • fuck

  • I love his voice. I never noticed how special it was until now. As for his guitar, it goes without saying...

  • Love this videos, thx Drchronos!!

  • this is just sick, if responsed on every blues house video, but this is just the most sick guitar piece if ever seen

  • Groso total... la verdad que no lo conocía hasta hace una semana, pero viendo varios videos de él , no me sorprende que haya participado del G3... Es realmente muuuuy groso tocando

  • I really don't know why so many people got mad when you said that lol...I agree with you. I think it is sweet he uses a fender.

  • lol thank you, i own a fender and i saw all those thumb downs lol i was like dang alot of fender fans here

  • maybe sometimes but what about clapton?

the late SRV,Hendrix? Ritchie blackmore of deep purple... malmsteen often, Dave Murray of iron maiden used to... the list does go on

  • well i agree about the clpton but hendrix owned more than just fenders, and you said it exactly right about murray....

    he used to

  • mmm i spose you're right actually

    :)

so many players have ibanez or ESP now don't they? the fender is nice for a change methinks

  • oh i want to know when he is going to the house again, i was at it earlier today

  • total dedication

  • awesome mix of fuzzes and overdrives. such an amazingly talented guitar player. great voice as well sets the mood for the music

  • Wow. Absolutely amazing

  • Elevator Sky Movie

  • Love his guitar playing, but he can't sing worth !!!!.

  • I've had the pleasure of meeting ej on a few different occasions- he's as articulate and well spoken as his guitar playing, and a hell of a nice guy.

  • This is one of my favs live . Seen him do it few times. Eric is the man!

  • GENIO TOTAL!! AGUANTE EJ!!

  • EJ is one bad ass motha F'er

  • Chris Maresh is a monster too.

  • Constantly amazing.

  • let's face it ... he plays a good guitar :-)

  • Its a pleasure! hehe

  • DrChronos, Thank you for posting.

  • DAMN!! EJ is one of the best. No one sounds or plays like him. Beautiful Tone.
