It's pretty silly but it's probably because of the custom UI they've got with all the additional notifications etc at the top of the screen, which wouldn't fit in at the top when held vertical. I do hope they put the rotation on home screen with the froyo update. . . that and a nicer dialpad.

I was planning to get a streak but no t-mobile version is a deal breaker. Dell should have done what google did with the nexus one and made two versions. Their are a large number of android users on the t-mobile network right now since android did start there. ATT has their blind faith Iphone users that are hardly willing to give another device a chance that isn't an apple product. Too bad dell you hindered your US sales by far.

Agree 100% ATT-only is idiocy. SERIOUSLY!?! Doesn't seem smart to me. I have been an ATT customer with my HTC Athena x7501 for 3 years & I am NOT a fan of ATT. Every iPhone release has cut my service. TMobile was my next choice but now Dell appears to be locking it out.

But Streak fascinates me, I would have bought it back when I first saw it, had it been available. If it wasn't for the Froyo flakiness I might still buy it today, if I could be PROMISED that it would be fully unlocked on ATT.

I have had one for the last month, in the UK they came out a while ago, you can try to talk it up as much as you like.

Slow, crashes, bad design (the speaker is on the back so it is useless for sound, and is really poor quality), glass has scratched-despite Dell saying it has some fantastic "Gorilla Glass", buttons in the wrong place meaning I hang up peoples calls.

I got rid of my iPhone 3G to buy this junk, I have been totally ripped off, I will never buy Dell again.

@vequals Initially I have to admit I felt the same way about the device. My experience was ruined on day one by the salesman on Tottenham Court Road looking me in the eye and telling me it was Android 2.1. I was (am) very disappointed with Android 1.6 - it's like Windows 3.1.

The device is starting to grow on me. I have never inadvertently hung up on someone, the speaker would be better facing forwards, and my screen remains unscratched. I now prefer the Streak over my iPhone 4.

Really wished you guys made the T-Mobile version. It would have completely flanked the market in my opinion. At least the device could have been sold unlocked (without carrier apps/branding/splash screen) through your website, could it not? Yes this would have been more of a cost to you but maybe you could have just limited the quantities and just gauge the sales.

TL;DR version: Should have kept the T-Mobile version... make sure the unlocked ones you sell aren't carrier locked/branded.

The networks are definitely NOT the same. If the Dell Streak is made to work on AT&T 3G, it will only work on T-Mobile's EDGE (2G, which is slower) network. AT&T and T-Mobile use different frequencies for their 3G networks.

Dell absolutely cannot be trusted. They have changed the release date from "late july" to "soon". Can you really trust a company like this to deliver Android updates, fix bugs, and provide decent product support in a timely and sensible manner? Anyone that buys the dell streak when it is eventually released will be making a colossal mistake. Dell has consistently shown over the past few months that they're incompetent and are not ready to compete in the smartphone market.

The real question about the Streak, is for a lot of people this is just a tablet, that they want to be able to through their sim in, so why would you charge the Ipad price for a smaller, and less functional Android tablet. Push 2.1 to all the 1.6 devices then when 2.2 is ready push that. I mean how hard is this to comprehend. You have already screwed up its launch, hell should of launched in February or March. It launched with 1.6 though it has been shown with 2.0 and running flash and now 2.1. You keep your customers in the dark for to long and the device is behind the curve now. The device has not fundamentally changed since the prototype seen in Oct 2009.

Kevin, please ask your team to enable LED notification when the screen is off..

Example; With screen off the Home will led will lit or slow flash when a call is missed or SMS is recieved. Back key will flash when other notifications are waiting.

PLEASE let the homescreens auto rotate to portrait mode too! NOT only landscape, but PORTRAIT too! it makes the phone really much more usable. we hold the phone most of the time in portrait,and most apps go to portrait too, why not the homescreens?

@BRX0102 They probably chose AT&T because it is GSM as is most of Europe, so Verizon and Sprint are not options, and T-Mobile doesn't have the coverage of AT&T. So pretty simple choice if you don't want to support two chipsets and types of cell networks. And AT&T probably told Dell they wanted it exclusively or they wouldn't sell it at all and Dell us desperate.
