Zak Stevens' voice is 10,000,000 times better than Olivas'. Zak was born to sing John's songs. Much respect for John's song writing. It is beautiful. That's what made Savatage such a magical band. Beautiful ballads with Zak's rediculously smooth voice!.......Reunion Album..PLEASE!..Or at least a full appearance at TSO!
@08Revelator I disagree, I think Jon's voice is amazing. He was meant to sing this song, this guy can sing, but Jon sings it with passion as ibrarocks said.
I dont see a lack of passion here at all dude. Just because John lost his brother 20 years ago does not give him a free pass vocally. Stop being a fanboy. Learn to accept that John Oliva does not have, and never really had a great voice. And FYI, any song writer will sing their own song with more passion, because They Wrote it! But in Savatage's case, it was very appropriate for Stevens to sing. It brought credibility to the songs that John's voice couldnt' do.
@08Revelator Too bad I'm not a little fanboy. I think jon has an awesome voice, this guys voice is really good and clear yes, but I love raspy classic metal voices man, and that's what jon has. It's just an opinion. Jon pulled as much out of his songs as anyone else could.
To me it is not a style thing at all. It is clearly an "talent" thing. Stevens can sing just as "metal" as you think Jon can. Jon Oliva is a songwriter and has been given talent to do that. Zak Stevens was given the talent to sing. This is not uncommon. If Jon could sing as well as Zak, trust me, he would have. Why do you think he brought him into the band? He didn't do it to change Savatage's sound, that's for sure. He did it to brings the songs he wrote more to life.
I saw Jon Oliva perform this song just a few months after Criss' passing. Still brings tears. Zack is an amazing vocalist, a truly wonderful performance. Hope C2C has a long rocking future.
Great job 'beaner', you are quite the amazing burst of talent,, making sure everyone feels the true depth of it all...and you'll always be one hell of a friend... <3
I love Jon. I love Zak. The song is awesome and hearing either one of them sing it is brilliant. Different, yes, but both brilliant.
