  • This calls for a green (2)! lol

  • these trains actually stopped at the new South Ferry

  • No, the R142s are the same length as the R62s. The door placement is slightly different, but the gap fillers were long enough to make up the difference. The reason that 2 and 5 trains don't stop is because those crews are not used to stopping there. A conductor opened up the whole train several years ago, instead of just the front 5 cars; That's what put a stop to it.

  • No Problem at all.

  • R188's actually, in around 2020. R179's are B Division(IND, BMT) Cars. R188's are A Division(IRT) cars.

  • In my opinion, I have to say R62's. They're better than R142's. And R62 only have 22-24 years old. R142's have 9-10 years old.

  • Comment removed

  • Then why you want R62's to be thrown away? Or are you saying it in a different way???

  • Throw away the R62's? They're still in great shape. Way better than these ugly R142's

  • The thing is, the R142s have very large doors and the gap fillers are only built for spacing between R62A so the R142's door would have been offset with the fillers

  • all i heard was they're gonna use the outer track as a storage track.

  • Maybe the length of the R142 cars are what's causing them to bypass the station.

  • I wonder if they goin 2 abandon these tracks when the new South Ferry Terminal opens in i guess about early 2009.

  • maybe the outer track they'll abandon but the inner tracks they cant since they use those to turn trains @ Bowling Green

  • Then in case the 2/5 may switch lines how are they goin 2 use w/o the outer tracks, unless they install a new switch to inner before SF and from inner after SF. IDK

  • It already has track switch that connect from the outer loop to inner loop and from the inner loop to outer loop. In the oldest days until 1977 the 5 trains went to south ferry station before and was on the lextington ave line. The 6 train might went to south ferry before also I guess. There was a south ferry shuttle in the oldest days until 1977,the shuttle went between south ferry and Bowling green. There was always track switch in south ferry.

  • Yea, i know bout that, i jus wanna know are they goin 2 abandon the tracks or like error46146 said they mite tear down the outer tracks when new station opens

  • I did hear about the new opening station of the south ferry with straight platforms also.

I don't now if the south ferry outer loop will be abandoned also just like the inner loop was abandoned since 1977.

  • I don't think that the mta will tear down the outer tracks when the new station opens I think the outer tracks will be still use for train storage and turn arounds just like the inner loop is used the same thing that will happen to the outer loop.

  • I know also about that.

  • The South Ferry station is so loud because of the creaking of the trains turning on the tight loop. They are loud at Union Square for that reason too. I'm sure that the loudest station is actually the (abandoned) City Hall station. That loop is really tight; you can hear how loud it is even within the train going by.

  • I guess they didnt stop at South Ferry to prevent passengers/tourists getting lost along the long since it was re-rerouted over the 5 line. Nice Catch !

  • lol thanks!

funny thing is that yesterday i was @ Chambers-WTC and there were a bunch of tourists looking for the 2 train lol

  • Great video...I past through that station on the 5 train via 7th Avenue, but the damn train decides to make all local stops!

  • the 5 train should not have made local stops, it should have ran express from Chambers to the bronx

  • Unfortunately it did made local stops with express announcements....man I was real pissed I had to get off Times Square-42nd Street and make a replacement video!

  • this is the loudest station ever.

  • not quite a news story about 3 years back says the loudest station is 14th street union square on the 4 5 and 6

  • both stations are just as loud in my opinion lol
