  • Awesome. Too bad he can't use his beak with an iPhone or he could play online ;-). Cute bird.

  • could parakeets do this?

  • @FireburningTV They certainly could, but this particular prop is a bit large for a cockatiel (notice how B.B. has to stand on a book), let alone a budgie. They have a tiny 'Connect 3' toy I've seen for sale at the Dollar Tree that would work perfectly for budgies. If you can't find it, and you live in the Bay Area, Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue has some they sell at some of their events. Leave me a message, and I can make sure they have one at the event for you.

  • awww so adorable

    *looks over at my cockatiel*

    aaaaaand he's sleeping :|

  • Forever alone...

  • Sarah Palin?

  • I have a question, my cockatiel has VERY similiar patterns on her head and face to yours. But I think shes a girl because the patterns dont wrab all the way around her head like many males ive seen. But im still very confused on her sex. any suggestions?

  • @161202scar I have /never/ seen a male cockatiel where the yellow wraps around to the back of their head - that's just not how it works! If your cockatiel is all grey with a yellow face and a white 'wing stripe' like Bumble B - and especially if he sings - then he's pretty much guaranteed to be a boy.

  • @ltdead are you serious!? My little baby girls a boy!!?? *faints* anyways about the face. you dont know how many males ive seen where it wraps all the way the head. I stores and online. im not really good at sexing anything except kittens and dogs. so i may be mistaken. but if you want to see videos of baby girl you can go to my other youtube channel mylife1216 i have two vids up of her. thankyou

  • @161202scar i know female cockatiels have grey stripes under their tails and males don't hope this helps :)

  • Aww this is really cute! I wish my teil could do things like this!

  • im guessing ur not actually playing..lol you already had won..

  • how long did it took u to train him

  • #CUTE

  • LOL what does he do if you let them loose? (the checkers)

  • where did you learn how to train him? my cockatiel only knows how to turn in circkels but he is very tame and smart, he also know a few songs, so it should be no problem to teach him something more but i don't know how to, i had him since he was 5 weeks old, he is almost 2 now.

  • @lizzyke87 I learned to train using positive reinforcement - specifically clicker training. There's a yahoogroup called 'bird-click' which has very useful files. There are also a number of books on the market to teach you about clicker training, most notably Karen Pryor's books. Goodluck, and be patient! The first few tricks are the hardest to teach, and then your bird catches on. B.B.'s great at any trick that has to do with putting small objects in or on larger ones, now. ;)

  • Cute trick! Love it.

  • hey all cockatiel owners...im hoping to get a cockatiel very soon, im talkin probably from a week to a month...im hopin that someone could give me some tips....tips that include getting ur cockatiel, training it, and any other useful tips! thanx alot!

  • Tips on care can be pretty species specific (Cockatiels for Dummies is a good resource, as is the Cockatiels magazine that Bird Talk produced), but training and taming tips are essentially the same for /any/ species you are working on, from hermit crabs to elephants! I recommend researching positive reinforcement training and clicker-training. There's a yahoogroup called 'Bird-click' that is very useful. Anything by Karen Pryor is excellent. Look up Good Bird Inc and subscribe to their magazine!

  • I would like to recommend that you consider adopting a bird from a rescue group, or taking on a bird through Craigslist. There is an overabundance of homeless cockatiels looking for families - I have four foster birds of my own looking for a permanent family! You have a better idea of what you're getting into with an adult bird, since a baby will typically grow up to have a different personality. I also recommend getting two cockatiels. They are so much happier in pairs and they do stay tame!

  • @adpitt25 get 2

you could try just taming one then the other one would be use to u

  • good boy tuna

  • dang he can beat me

  • I sure hope my cockatiel doesn't beat me at chess. That would be downright humiliating.

  • Tuna? Really?

  • that is A-W-S-O-M-E......AWSOME

  • im getting one next month do u have any tips for trainin?

  • Be patient with your bird, buy Cocketiels for Dummies or some other well acredited cocketiel book. They help a lot!

  • did you hand rare your bird get it from a breeder or from a petshop just wondering

  • wow he nos how to play

    kulio

  • it is really hard to watch this video every time i see a cocktail it makes me cry

  • Why does it make you cry?

  • Lol A cockatiel named Tuna!

  • LOL. awesome. I should teach mine how to play connect 4.

  • SO PRECIOUS!!! so talented :D

  • Aww. My bird would get ditracted and chew up the game thing. :P or end up throwing all the peices on the ground just to hear the clashing sound. Silly bird. XD But I love her so much

  • awesome !

  • Cute!!!

  • she's pwning you

  • dude ur awesome!!!!

  • omg that bird is so cute and cool!

  • you could have lost to a parrot.he had 3 in a row

  • What a smart fella.

  • Too cute! How long did it take your Cockatiel to learn this?

  • This particular trick, not long at all. He learned it in under 15 minutes. But he had previously learned 'rings on a peg,' 'basketball,' and 'coins in a bank.' This trick is pretty much identical to coins in a bank. The only difference being that the props are slightly different.

Coins in a bank took him a while, though. I think he learned that one in about a week?

  • are you calling him "tuna"?

  • Yup. His name has become something of a 'word association' game. Bumble-->Bumble B.-->Tuna. Most recently I call him 'Fish.'

  • TUNA NUNA?!?!!?!?!!?!?

  • u sound wierd o_0

  • I taught my parrot to play connect four. Odds are, I am weird. ;)

  • loololofuck

  • What a great prop idea! I'm going to have to find one of these travel-sized games - that should work for my guy. So far I haven't found too many toys that are appropriate for my conure's size ... most things sold as "bird props" are meant for larger birds. Thanks for the idea, and great job on the training!

  • Ok, I need some help locating this prop. Looks like it's only about 2-3 inches tall, right? Where did you get it? I can't find anything this size. Any help you can give is appreciated!!

  • Oh wow, does he actually know the strategy, or is he just putting the piece in a random place?

  • Just at random. It's possible to teach chickens to play tic-tac-toe, so in theory it would also be possible to teach B to play connect 4 /with/ strategy... I just haven't tried yet.

  • idol!!

  • i bet the bird won!

  • aw this is so cute and awesome...i love cockatiels theyre sooo smart!

  • That is AMAZING!!!

How u teach him to do that? does he watch u play til he understands?

  • Nope. A cockatiel wouldn't ever learn that way! It's all about breaking the behavior down into small steps. First you teach him to touch the game piece. Once he understands, teach him to pick it up. Then to carry it. Then carry it towards the game. Then put it in the game. You can read up on clicker training at yahoogroups' bird-click group.

  • lol awesome!

  • shows you how smart animals are. cute =]
