@Isuckatpaintball2 If they have coordination problems, joint movement restriction, etc. they may find their limbs extremely difficult to use, putting them pretty much on par with their double-amputee counterparts. The classification system used by the IPC is very good in terms of fairness.

These races should be split up between people with different types of impairments. Someone who's only missing a couple fingers should not be going against someone without either of his freakin arms, I mean come on

They are in one class "SB7". The classes are organised from 1 to 10, 1 been the most severly affected and 10 been the least affected. The system is designed so that individuals are placed in the right class, so they will be racing on a level field. Sure, they might not all look the same, but they are all in the same class.

Well I wouldnt say any of these guys are disabled, if you look at them they have adapted to find there own way of doing things, so in that sense there not 'disabled' and live a normal life like the rest of us. But to know more about the athletes try searching them on google or through the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) or APC (Australian Paralympic Committee).

I wish that the Paralympics had as much coverage on NBC as the Beijing Games. These athletes are amazing and brave for representing their country on the world stage and doing such a great job! I only wished swimmers like Phelps, Aaron Peirsol, Jason Lezak etc would have stayed behind to cheer on these athletes! What a boost Michael Phelps cheering in the stands would have given these athletes!

i agree with you. Hoever, there is only so much you can ask of a professional athete, and the "cold reality", as lolPenguyen put it, is that after such an intensive swim meet, lympians are mentally and physically exhausted, and still hav to resume training and their regular lives.

Saying that it makes no sense to swim competitively if you have only one arm and one leg is like saying it makes no sense to do the same if you only have two arms and legs instead of three of each. You're judging them by the accepted standard of 2 arms 2 legs when really it's just about challenging the body that you've got. Not all of us are tall, but short people play basketball too. Something may be "more difficult" because we lack something -- but that's always relative, and always true.

Paralympians are the same as Olympians. They train just as hard so that they too can represent their country and compete against the best in the world. They just happen to have a disability. Unless you also believe that Olympians are weird, there's nothing weird about Paralympians.

just because they have 2 arms/2 legs doesn't mean they work properly. This on the scale is fairly able bodied sb1 being least able

They do make sure they are all equal ablities, like Jessica Long(US), she has no feet so gets a really slow start but between the walls she is really strong so compared to someone with limited function in their arm/legs they will even out over a race.

I'm GB so go on Sascha, but was very impressed with Blake, gave him a good run.
