i just gotta point out.... the stargate has its own power source (the DHD) so wouldnt it have made sense to kill the power to the facility to keep the security system from killing them?! oh and i would have eliminated any backup power as well.
@ploofedoof The DHD doesn't power the Stargate, that Stargate is powered by a naqhada reactor already in it. All the DHD does, is activate it. Plus, the Stargate complex is powered by separate naqhada generators, so shuting down the DHD wouldn't stop the security system it would only stop them from sending the note back in time.
@samysasy419 all im saying is a little more planning could have gone into it... and as i recall the second Stargate had an internal power supply in the DHD which went dead at some point in like season 2. and the russians had the DHD from egypt which was still in working order as of the original first contact with the Ascen.
@ploofedoof But the DHD doesn't power the Stargate facility, and the Tau'ri computer works some what better than the DHD, because it can show Gate diagnostics, etc. Plus the story pretty much explained why they had to hurry and didn't have time to plan everything out. There was aa solar flare, and that was the only time the Gate would go back in time.
Carter was married to the Earth ambasador to the Aschen... that in mind he could have temporaraly comendeered the gate for "priority transport" (or something) and simply walked up to the active gate and hocked the letter through... or better yet a nice flash drive with the warning and all the aschen medical advancements on it.
no questions asked since he's a diplomat with diplomatic immunity not 1 shot fired
but no.. they had to go all badass and get themselves killed
@ploofedoof Dude, it's the Stargate, think about how many people went through the thing in that entire episode. I don't think even he being an ambassador could temporarely take it, it would be like an ambassador, temporarely shutting down an entire Airline, that's just not possible. Only one Stargate can be within a planetary system, so, it's pretty important.
@samysasy419 then i take it youve never been in an airport when a VIP (senator i think) was present. and if you think about it taking over the gate for only one "priority transport" which would only take all of ten seconds to dial and exit (through the Gate) would'nt be that big of a deal. considering how much down time the stargate actually had that episode.
@ploofedoof The stargate and the airport are two completely different things, there can only be one stargate on a planet, while airports have dozens of airplanes. and even if he could take the gate for one second, he still would have to tell the gate operators where he's going, than they'll find out all his plan. Plus, I think, the gate room was closed for the solar flare.
my favorite part of the episode. plus i love jack in this episode when he grapples down into the gate area. that was so cool. makes ya wonder if rick did that stunt.
