Technically, income, ie unapportioned, taxes are unconstitutional in America! Even in Canada, they were designed as a "temporary measure" to pay for the First World War. How many of your friends know these facts, do you think?
@derfowvayer taxes are in your US constitution. And theres never been a period in american history where there weren't taxes. Needless to say however the tax code of the US and of my own country is darconian and retarded.
Ok so we take money from wealthy people..just because...this is insanity....unless your a trust fund recipient, you have to work hard to obtain wealth....this makes no sense....so if you make more than 250000 your guilty...
I'm in a top bracket and if I thought my taxes (six figures last year) were being used wisely and efficiently on programs that IN THE LONGRUN will benefit the nation vs SHORTRUN political gimmicks, I would not mind.
People know taxes are necessary. But the reason folks detest them now is that they disappear into a black hole hole of irresponsible, inefficient, super-sized, mismanaged bureaucratic waste. Equating taxes with patriotism is pathetic but not surprising.
All those percentages mean nothing if you're not looking at what it's a percentage *of*. The "rich" could pay 99% income tax, but if they have no income, it's kinda pointless. The biggest myth is that everyone, including the rich, has income in the same way. Most people's only source of money is their income, hence taxed, the super wealthy could stop working today and not pay any income taxes for generations. The *income* tax inherently ignores the wealthy, argue the rest all you want.
either way you look @ it, taxes make the rich richer and the poor; poorer. enough dam taxes and new laws. what about the single ppl making 25k per year and get taxed out the ass. family of 4 making 60-80k or more rich, single ppl making less than 25k poor, family of 3 making 40k poor.
Could someone give me some links or stat. info. that backs up the info. in this video? Left leaning publications pretty much say the opposite of what is in this video.
@voskresene Lookup the following for starters; 10 Outrageous Facts About the Income Tax
You should find the article posted on Cato. It covers some of the items listed in this video and other tax absurdities. Also, lookup "The Income Tax Really Is Evil" on Mises dot org
To say that the "Proportion of Federal Income Taxes Paid by: Top 10% = 70.79%" makes it sound like those top income earners unfairly pay the lions share of taxes. More important statistics would show such comparisons AFTER cost of living expenses are taken into account.
The often made argument is that if the rich are taxed too much they will be disinclined to "create wealth."
Conversely, never stated, is that if the middle class is taxed into slavery, then who will do the necessary work?
time to be patriotic? Nope, it's time for the rich to leave the country, or at least hide their money. I will never have beef with someone who earns more than me. As long as they got hat money fair and square through an equal exchange of values.
War has been expensive historically. We have been at WAR economically for 50 years. Bankers love war, as they profit the most. How much has the govt borrowed over the years? Party independent? How much trade has occured on credit?
The leisure addicts of America demand govt srvcs beyond ability to pay. Consider reading: "Creature from Jekyll Island" by: G. Edward Griffin.
@morseson While there is a long-term sustainability problem with our current monetary system in which money circulates as debt the ability to borrow money (which will not happen privately without usury) is very valuable economically speaking. It allows people to own property by paying a mortgage rather than renting, borrow for their education, start a new business or expand an existing one... the problems with our current monetary system can be solved without eliminating borrowing.
More and more and more, govt. at all levels are trying to take a bite out of all of us, it's really getting ridiculous when every time you turn around city or county govt. are constantly trying to pass levys for example. They won't be happy until they take it all and have us begging for scraps.
Time to be Patriotic? Well Mr. Biden I gave 22 years of my life to military service and left the service with a severly damaged back. So, is my tax bill paid in full? Or haven't I been Partiotic enough yet. While we are on the subject, how much time in uniform living in substandard conditions making chump change for pay, have you accumulated Mr. VP?
@ACRScout57 Biden has a frequent and often severe case of foot in mouth disease. Patriotic. Ha ha. ARCSCout57 - you did it the right way, and I firmly believe that we'll throw these bums out and clean up the place. Biden is a a joke, a footnote, a mouthpiece. And for that matter, so is the anointed one. It doesn't take a genius to see that we're headed for some nasty times if this happens.
@FenixofWow Everyone can make up their own truth. Do you have the time to go an personally investigate every little detail? Have you done that? Its in wich one of us to believe what we want...at least we get to choose wich ones lie swe are going to believe...at least...i hope we at least have that. Im not from the states but the same shit that is going on over there is going on everywhere and worse.
@TheHauptsturmfuhrer Heck, I'm asking the same question. You better believe that if we "little people" tried these shenanigans,we'd loose everything in the process, including our freedom. Rangle is a perfect example of the liberals completely disregarding the opinion of their constituents.
Funny, I still remember that this GREAT COUNTRY was founded on the principle of NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION.
Would anyone call today's DC fat-cats as representing anyone but lobbyists? Not in my book.
@dzert91 You obviously do not understand that anyone who makes 50,000 is not rich by any stretch of the imagination, and those of us who have the ability to earn money by starting a business keep others employed. Attitudes like yours will eventually drive business away from places which need jobs the most.
How'd you like it if I said "Stop crying, poor guy, and go pull yourself up by the chinstraps like my ancestors, and yours."
Consider thinking before speaking/writing. & Vocational training
Lmao at these comments. All dreamers thinking they are gonna be in that 5%. Rich ppl know how to make the middle class ppl vote their way. "Yea you can be a millionaire, and when you get rich the gov't will take it all away". Rich get out of paying taxes and the non-rich who are against higher taxes for the wealthy continue watching Scarface in their parents basement
@markprice25cavs - it doesn't take much to be in that top 5%, you think it takes millions to be in the top 5% and no it does not. My stepmother is in the top 5% because she earns 125,000 per year as a BSN Registered Nurse. My Father is in the top 10% because he earns 88,000 per year as a 20 year veteran of the US Postal Service. I am sure to crack the top 10% within a year of graduating from college, perhaps even the top 5%. Do your research.
People don't realize the greatest tax increase began in 2001 with the printing of money under Bush which has devalued the $. What's mind boggling is Obama has tripled that! Just b/c you don't see it on your check doesn't mean its not there.
Also, "Cap and Trade" is the biggest tax passed by Congress in US history.
More.. Obama's cigarette tax, raised Estate tax, and the Grandaddy of them all-home prices fixed/inflated by Fannie&Freddie manipulated to create higher rates on property taxes.
The reason in America the founding fathers wanted taxes voluntary was this would limit the power of the government, they totally ignored that didn't they, they wanted a small government and limited powers look at what we have now, a Godzilla who keeps holding out his hand asking for more money or he will smash you to jail,
so godzilla can fight wars in countries we don't even belong or to pay politicians and their drug and prostitute habits and fancy cars and huge mansions, while the rest of us struggle to pay their bills not ours. This is why taxes where supposed to be voluntary it would keep the government under the control of the people not the other way around, I smell a Real "Tea Party" brewing. taxes will be voluntary once again very soon. i cant wait till they go broke thier getting closer everyday
I've watched some videos on You Tube that show you how you can reduce the amount of taxes you pay. Think the guy's name was Jarl Moet (or something like that). Well worth watching.
Ive always heard the top 1% of the population owns 40% of the wealth...they only pay 39%!! tax those bastards more!
He makes a million a year... tax that bitch 50%...makes 10 million...tax that bitch 75%...in the end he's still getting more than he worked for, nobody is entitled to tens of millions, let alone billions.
The income tax rate on the wealthy is 28%. The income disparity that must exist for the difference in taxes paid by the top quintile -- and especially the top one per cent -- and the lower quintiles is outrageous. (And this doesn't include capaital gains, a large part of the wealthy's income)There is no way to justify the disparity. They produce nothing (except financial collapse) and even their decadent consumption levels don't actually drive any part of the economy. John Gault my ass.
What kind of freedom is that which requires free people to legally pay for anothers dreams, schemes, wants, desires, pleasures, wealth building, failures bailouts & other legal mischief when I cannot force my neighbor to pay for my dreams, schemes...?
HOW CAN THERE BE LAW OR COURTS OF LAW THAT PERMITS LEGAL STEALING & LEGAL SLAVERY?
ITS TIME TO BAND TOGETHER AND TELL THE LEGAL THIEVES WHOS IN CHARGE.
There's a reason why Republicans and their Libertarian corporatist buddies only want to talk about income taxes. The biggest tax burdens for most folks are payroll taxes and sales taxes, not income taxes.
Libertarianism is to liberty as Scientology is to science.
This isn't GOP, idiots. This is Libertarian, HUGE difference.
These people suggesting that taxing the "rich" almost twice as much because they can afford it is ridiculous.
Yes, they can afford it. But that's not the point. What happens when $250,000 p/year is no longer the "rich" and the government deems anyone making over $50,000 needs to pay higher taxes. What's your opinion when "you" are deemed rich? $50,000 is rich compared to what I make. Maybe YOU should pay more taxes.
@vegetorott I'd be gad to pay extra taxes even if my $20,000 supported standard living conditions. What will do more harm someone with $5 dollars being taxed a dollar or someone with $20 being taxed $5 dollars? For someone making $50,000 the 10,000 given in taxes could have kept their family's house from being forclosed or gotten better health insurance for their family. $50,000 or even $100,000 from someone making $250,00 might upset them but it has nothing to do with their survival.
you do realize that you are under the poverty line with your $20.000,because it is 20.964 or so and a Soldier on the frontline, risking his/her life gets $21.000 and change after 4 years in service and becoming a specialist,so to prevent any bitching from anyone ( to much tax ,not enough tax) everyone should pay the same among ,like 20% of what they make, means everyone pay's their "fair share"
Should there not be a correct system in place befor the fed is abolished ? Audit them then get back what we can.STATES are to accept NOTHING but gold or silver for debts.Art. 1 sec. 10 clause 1. Do we ?
There sure are a lot of people talking about taxes. That's a good thing. My question to all is this. Have you seen the section of the tax code that specifically and unequivocally states that you, as an American citizen, are "LIABLE" for the income tax imposed at section 1 of subtitle A of title 26 USC? Listen to what
Correct me if i'm wrong. As "applied"Title 26 "Income" tax law (a non-positive law) works WHEN applied the way intended....It "applies" to those MADE LIABLE,which is a very small few.Look it up for yourself.HR1207
if a average tax payer paid 13 % and he made $50,000 he'd be paying $6,500 which leave him $43,500 a rich person making $10,000,000 a yr pays 23% or $2,300,000 leaving him $7,700,000 .. who's really bearing the burden ?
Not that I doubt the veracity of this video, but I'd love to know what sources they got their information from. OK, OK. I want to rub it into Obamanists' faces, I admit.
This video is for the stupid. It is a DISTRACTION. Consider, bailout taxmoney to JP Morgan to purchase Lehman. In the process,JP acquired billions of TAX WRITEOFFS thru the acquired"toxic assets" on Lehman books, in an amount THEY get to define, thanks to mark to market rule change. The bailout Tax money bought 100 years of TAX WRITEOFFS for banksters, essentially insuring tax free operation for decades. Now add in the other bailouts. This video is a DISTRACTION, paid for by the government
"This video is a DISTRACTION, paid for by the government " yeah... right... the Obama administration is really into publishing videos that make their VP and head of the IRS appear as stooges... LOL!
The video shows the puppet Biden saying time for everyone to pay their "fair share". My responce was in agreement. I suggest to start with the BANKS, having the banks pay taxes on the ill gotten gains of their bailout. The ill gotten gain is in the form of tax writeoffs, acquired from failed financial institutions, with taxpayer money. I never mentioned puppet Biden or puppet Obama in the post. I put forth the proposition that "this video is for the stupid". So far your arguement fits the bill.
In Norway the average income tax is about 30-40%, then there's 1225% VA , and lots of other taxes. Wonder what the cumulative tax is. Expect to pay 4 times as much for a car here (not kidding). We're slaves alright. I think the strange banking system, corporations (limited liability), willingness to give up ever more freedom for protection and the "common good", and cannabis/hemp-prohibition are some of the biggest problems.
I New York the top 10% earners are leaving the state they are taking their money with them.
In California the same thing is happening. I guess Govt can't force you to be patriotic as Nouveau Rich President Obama, the 4.7 Million dollar a year man seems to believe. Whats next Obama, seize assets on people moving away with their money? Except of course on politicians like yourself and your buddies.
I don't want to say this, but or your brain is inside of your ass or you are reaaaallly ignorant, the Gates couple individually donate more money than the whole welfare of England and some European Countries combine. Those like you worshipers, lead by this halfner scatter kenyan are destroying the Country, taxing to the ground the only people who can brought back the Nation (americans entrepreneurs) from this self inflicted recession, but you can't see that because your head is inside of your ass.
The question is avoided and your statement is false. Maybe your smart enough to be trying to fool people but I doubt it. Your probably a lower class sucker that believes the shit that is being fed to you.
The question is what percent of wealth is paying what percentage of taxes. What you will find out is that the middle class, after all of the loopholes, write offs, and hidden income, bares (percentage wise) the high majority of the tax burden.
The question is what percent of INCOME because the income tax taxes income, not wealth. Whining about wealth is just inexcusably wealthy envy -- you just hate people who are more successful than you.
your a moron. YOu shouldn't type or talk...you sound much smarter that way. Capital gains, business profit, etc. etc. are all incomes that get taxed separately.....read a book outside of right wing propaganda yet? .... uh, didnt think so. Stupid ass slave
So typical of an EXTREME left wing neo natzi piece of shit. "Don't speak unless I agree with you". That shit is getting old and run down. Try something new because it AIN'T working!!!
Gimme a break, Joe. Six people in the cabinet already balked at or evaded paying their taxes. Don't tell me to pay my fair share while Timmy Turbotax mysteriously avoided paying his - until he was vetted and exposed.
I say if the rich truly do not want to pay more taxes, then we just even the playing field a little more in another way. What would they say to legislation that limitied their income could only be x times the ammount of their lowest paid emplyee? Maybe then the bottom FIFTY percent would gladly contribute more.
I see nothing in the Constitution that indicates that the rich should pay a greater percentage of their wealth in taxes than the middle or lower classes should. Why penalize the successful? Since when do you feel that you have a "right" to the wealth earned by others?
The "richest 15%" gain the most from their hard work, ingenuity and desire. Hard work, ingenuity and desire are just a few of the great characteristics possessed by our founders. This is the reason these traits will benefit you in America. Or at least they did until we a vast majority of lazy Americans with a sense of entitlement decided it would be better to have the government take the rewards reaped by hard work and disseminate them amongst the masses.

"....in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of our liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
Hard work? The hardest working Americans earn the least per hour. Slavery was also a characteristic of our founders, should we adopt that as well? Read a book, stop watching Faux News

bill gates didn't do Anything but steal an idea from someone else and call it his own. He doesn't deserve anything of what he has. You are a lousy consumer. You just take whatever the rich man pukes up and call it gravy
The income tax is blatant robbery of the people by the govt. Being able to prosper is the american way. Spread the wealth around?! Wealth cannot be defined by how much money you have and I don't think mine should be taken and given to someone else in the name of patriotism. $250,000 is before taxes and other deductions, overhead for small businesses, insurance, etc. Take home from that amount? It's a farse!
It's hard to spread this without the numbers juxtaposed... Er... the numbers meaning the percentage of income earned versus the percentage of income taxes paid. Top 1% earns 20% of the income, Top 1% pays 40% of the taxes. Most people not paying attention won't care that they pay 40% of the taxes, assuming that they probably make 80% of the income. Look up the Boortz Kucinich interview (if you can find it) for an example of such ignorance.
you think the wealthy pay taxes? who do you think is buying off the politicians? the poor? with what money/ influence? Why would the rich invest millions of dollars into their power grab campaigns if not to reap residuals? seriously
1 + 1 = 2.
why do you think Bill Gates built that medical facility?
a. makes him look good
and b. SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES.
did I graph it out well enough for you. if all you need is a graph to believe something...
Think much? What are taxes 4? Especially the taxes 4 social services? To help people. Gates is helping people through charity. Why should that money be taxed? And since u r such a wiz at tax law do u kno there is a cap on charitable deductions and the 100s of millions Gates gives away is exempt from that deduction!?
Hav u ever considered how much money is lost from helping the needy by laundering it through the IRS, tax preparers and good ole unionized government workers!? Nearly all of it.
Gates aint helping nearly as many people as he would if he would just pay his fucking taxes. I don't support the IRS. I advocate a fair tax where everyone pays the same via a sales tax. then people like Gates couldn't rig the system.
I don't want to say this, but or your brain is inside of your ass or you are reaaaallly ignorant, the Gates couple individually donate more money than the whole welfare of England and some European Countries combine. Those like you worshipers, lead by this halfner scatter kenyan are destroying the Country, taxing to the ground the only people who can brought back the Nation (americans entrepreneurs) from this self inflicted recession, but you can't see that because your head is inside of your ass.
by the way Mo Money Obama has repealed the charity tax laws. now the Demacratic administration and tax the piss outta donations also.... lets hear it for the end of capitalism... idiots
What? Hey! But even when America drives out its productive class, the inventors, the dreamers, the schemers, the bankers, the financiers, the garage entrepreneurs, the hustlers and movers and shakers, because Obama knows those people are greedy bastards, right?---at least then America will still have 15% of the population of Mexico left, and look whata success story Mexico is!
I feel better personally helping my neighbor whose house burned down rather than sit around and wait for a government agency from far away to give a damn. Look at the rebuilding efforts in Katrina striken areas. Government success? No. People choosing to help, not being forced to help.
And, (most?) (some?) (a significant number of?) those top percentages refer not to the truly rich, the truly wealthy but to the "working affluent" who may be "rich" one year and "poor" the next.
1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.
2. a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.
How is being forced by the federal gov't to pay more for what you work for being patriotic by the definition of the word? What word(s) can anyone think of for being forced into handing over wealth or monetary value? Seriously, I want to know.
"What word(s) can anyone think of for being forced into handing over wealth or monetary value?"
"support". i truly don't mind paying taxes because i get more for that money than i would spending it myself. if you don't want to support your country, you could live somewhere else, but i personally enjoy the fruits of several generations' taxed labor. i would be proud to keep that ball rolling because i've benefited from it.
Maybe that is why you are so confused. Never do you receive more for a dollar spent through government than privately. There are always bureaucrats to pay and corruption to expect. Sometimes it is necessary to use a government, but this should be limited to protection and honoring of contracts.
If you don't mind paying taxes, then send a little more on your check to the IRS or refuse to cash your refund check. Private charities and local community churches do a better job of helping the helpless, not the clueless. The fruits of previous generations that you enjoy did not come from government or the money they took from taxpayers. Government should be limited to do only those things we cannot do for ourselves.
"Support" exists for anything from addiction to the illegal sex trade. Nazi's had "support." This narrow-minded view you have that because one may disagree with tax policies it automatically puts it in black and white that they aren't supporting their country is pretty extreme. If that nonsense was true no one supported their country before taxes were invented. "Patriotic" has always meant much more than paying taxes, but you didn't disagree with the abuse of the word - it totally fooled you.
_Patriot: 1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion_
...and then sells his country to China, OPEC countries etc. by taking loans from them and falling into life long debts with help of similar "patriotic" enterprises. :)
Anybody call himself a patriot and at the same time slowly destroy his own country with greedy and/or stupid actions. For example president can call himself "biggest
patriot" but his actions can lead to opposite results.
why would a populist find these facts upsetting? the richest pay the most in taxes because they have the most money. this is not so difficult to understand. it would be foolish to try to get this money from the bottom 50% because they don't have it. i would love to pay taxes on 250k, because then i'd be wealthy.
if people pay others to do their taxes, this is stimulating an industry: something a free market advocate should embrace. is it a sin to pay someone to clean my house, too? wtf?
Stimulating an industry? You need to take an economics course. Paying others to do your taxes doesn't do much to help a nations actual production. You have simply created an industry that is needed because of the ridiculousness of some facet of society. They don't actually produce anything for the country. It does not serve to make the country more prosperous if the tax code is so difficult that it requires more and more accountants' time.
"Paying others to do your taxes doesn't do much to help a nations actual production"
so you do think it's a sin to pay someone to clean my house? service industries are industries too. that's an awfully elitist definition of "industry". waiters don't produce anything either, nor do concierges or even accountants. you could argue that a bartering system would be more efficient because there would be no accountants necessary at all: just produced goods exchanged for others.
Because those industries were created out of demand. There is a demand for house cleaning because people rather not clean after themselves if they have the money to pay another. They rather eat out to have fun on a friday night.
The increasing need of accountants is a result of the governments overreach into our lives. They have made an incredibly difficult to understand tax code that not only taxes us, but requires outside services to comprehend. It is an industry that is made necessary by gov
Cool video, Id like to know a few more facts. Out of all the wealth earned in the US how much do the top 1% make, how much do the top 5% make, how much do the top 10% make? if the top 10% make 90% of the wealth in the country shouldn't they be paying 90% of the taxes?
So rich pays more taxes because they are just reselling wealth which is created by bottom 50%.
If bottom 90% (people who work at farms and factories, also teachers and scientists) will suddenly disappear then top 10% will die from hunger because people who creates actual goods will be gone.
This is one of the reasons why companies usually fires managers first - people who lives from wealth created by others.
My comment is not about ability to grow food. Its about rich people claiming that they contribute more just because they pay more taxes when actually they are paying taxes with wealth created by others.
And yes, if you instantly remove everyone who manufactures goods (lower, middle class, ...) then loads of rich people will become poor and die from huger. Knowledge in economy doesn't guaranty skills in science, agriculture or medicine. Similar things already happened during social revolutions.
You have an extremely bizarre notion of wealth creation. Is it simply the man who a assembles the widget who is responsible for its creation? What about the man who paid the wages for that man? Bought the raw materials? Paid to transport those raw materials? How about the man who took the risk and loaned capital to the gentleman who wanted to open the widget factory?
You seem to be stuck in a subsistence farming mentality.
How do you think manager pays wages? He simply sells products of his workers and takes his cut. Money are generated from wealth, not other way around. In order to get money you need to create and sell goods first. Workers can survive without expensive managers but managers with empty factory will bankrupt. Only slaves think that employer supports them. Independent person thinks that he is selling his skills to employer (profitable deal for both sides).
Actually, in order to create anything you first need capital. You must be funded or you have nothing to make anything with. You have no raw materials, no machinery, no power to drive the machinery...
Funny how when the owners decide to close a factory, the workers are unable to continue to work there. They retain the same skill set, the building is still there, the machinery is intact, the only thing missing is the person willing to pay to run it.
1. Learn history. Capital was created before money. Also learn economy - money worth nothing without capital. Do you think you just can print your own money and buy stuff on the streets? NO! You create wealth first and get money later. Only then you can invest money into something else.
Owners close factories because nobody buys wealth created in them. Workers just go to other factories and creates other wealth which can be exchanged to printed money. And other owners will take cut from that.
Do you think you can just open a factory and start making widgets? You need capital, whether that is in the form of currency or some other store of wealth. That capital can take the form of a promissory note, you guarantee (based on previous history, good name, trustworthiness) that you will repay what is loaned and the lender accepts in the belief that your plan is sound and he will recover his investment. You have created NOTHING and yet you have capital to commence your enterprise.
Actually you can. Loads of people can start business without borrowing money. Yes, you need capital in order to start something very big, but this is alternative short cut which can be reached by flowing first path.
You can't create money from nothing (unless someone cheats and steals). Previous history doesn't count if you can't back papers with real wealth. This is why that house you "bought" with loan is not yours. It belongs to bank until you pay everything till last penny.
Of course you can start a business without borrowing money, you self fund. That is, in effect, borrowing from yourself.
Money (currency) is simply a convenient store of wealth. I can create wealth from "nothing" if by what you mean by "nothing" is the lack of a manufactured object. I may have an idea that is of value to someone else and they pay me for it. I have wealth and yet I have not created anything. I could stumble upon a chunk of gold or a jewel and have wealth from "nothing" too
I agree that people can get rich by stumbling upon a chunk of gold or by winning a lottery.
Idea is another form of wealth which can have very high value (usually you need to train your brain hard in order to have very good one). Its OK.
I just don't like when some people brag about their overrated value (like amount of taxes paid) when you know that their wealth was created by simply ripping-of modern slaves.
The vast majority of wealthy people did not get that way by "ripping off modern slaves." Your notion that wealth is only created by those who perform manual labor is asinine. An owner does not hire a manager out of charity. He sees value equal with the salary he pays him. He is not ripping off anyone. Without him, the widgets just sit there and are of 0 value.
The idea that the manager is less vital to the creation of the wealth and therefore deserving of a higher tax burden is nonsensical.
Wealth is a material goods or information which can be used to create material goods. Rest is temporary or BS. Majority of people would sell you pack of matchsticks for $1M without any moral doubt (because personal needs overweight social needs of others). I never said that manager is less worthy, good managers always must get more that simple workers. But in my life I saw too many managers who did nearly nothing and took obscene salaries, just because they can or because they knew someone.
Wealth can be in whatever someone else values. It maybe completely divorced from any material good.
Whether individuals earn the salaries they make is no one's business but the person paying them. Your opinion that X does not deserve what Y pays him and therefore X should pay more in taxes is just plain bizarre.
No it can not. Price can. For example. Value of Pablo Picasso paintings are very low by comparison with their price. It is because his paintings won't give any evolutionary advantage. Value/Wealth is something which can give you evolutionary advantage or survivability (like knowledge how to control events).
Did I said something about size of taxes? NO! I've said that some rich people, who contributes more to government budget with taxes, overrates their contribution to wealth of the country.
Where do you get that wealth can only be properly measured by an evolutionary advantage? Wealth is the value of the existing stock of tangible or intangible goods. A Picasso has a value commensurate with what someone is willing to exchange for it.
By definition wealth is valuable material goods. Some definitions include money. We both stretching our definition by including non material stuff. I just exclude anything which has agreed price. I mean, if you remove humans, keep everything else and put two new civilizations on Earth then everything will be re-evaluated. Everything which has virtual price (based on human memories) like paintings, paper money, gloves of Michael Jackson, everything with personal cultural value will be worthless.
Natural resources, tools which can control environment, events and help survive and prosper will have higher value - these things are part of real wealth.
I took it from sites referred by Google. Some are more popular some are less. All definitions include real/tangible goods, but not all of them include non-real/intangible goods. I agree only with first stricter definition (I can make exception only for information (knowledge) which can give evolutionary advantage.
This may and is likely true, however a bad manager has a negative impact on that business. If they are costing more than they are producing they become a liability to that business. Get enough liabilities and the business goes under. If an owner decides to hire someone due to personal acquaintance as opposed to merit, they are choosing an additional liability that jeopardizes their business. That's their choice and they are punished for it through less profit or eventual bankruptcy.
Are you seriously stupid enough to believe this crap? Paying taxes means hurting people not helpng them. So only a r-tard or psychopath can be happy about paying taxes or consider it good.
Second - Taxes don't pay for growing food or working in industry- the soviets tried that and failed miserably.
Third - Being rich is not a DNA characteristic.
Fourth - stop reading Marx and go take a job - work hard, save and become rich!
1. I think its you with IQ less than 80 (minimum needed to understand social relationships). Paying taxes is necessary to keep social needs in good condition - health care, insurance, schools, etc...
2. Taxes are money generated by selling created wealth (directly or indirectly).
3. Another argument generateėd straight from your talking ass (because I never claimed that).
4. I have good white job already and I am grateful to hard working farmers who allows me to keep my hands clear.
Then - why not tax a 100% of the profit generated by selling created wealth. After all, there is no need to pay managers, because they do nothing. Go ahead try it. Who is going to invest in a factory in your ideal world? Nobody will, unless they intend to spend their savings with absolutely no returns.
There is no 100% tax because profit serves as a reward which motivates people to create more goods (communism failed because they ignored that) .
Good managers still do good job. But now we have too many overrated managers. Salaries exceeds generated wealth (contributions). Economy crashed because people took more than wealth they created.
Hang on, but you said that managers don't do anything - even worse the people who invested in the company don't do anything other than invest. So why reward them? I say be honest and take away anything that is not deserved?
(you may want to look up fascism - seems like you have a lot in common with those folks)
I never said that. I've said that managers don't create wealth and they pay taxes by reusing wealth created by others (value of their taxes is overrated).
Investments always means that you need to divide profits with somebody else (unless its some social Business Start program from government). Its not a good thing to start business from debt.
_(you may want to look up fascism - seems like you have a lot in common...)_
Yes, and you have so much in common with murderers and rapists. :)
Hahaha... fascism as in the system of govt. Honest, look it up - I am not calling you a murderer or rapists. Just that I see great similarity between your ideas and those of fascism. Just research it - it is almost identical to your ideas. FDR even tried this system in the USA.
I think you know about fascism as same as pig about beetroots. I haven't advocated for any government regulation yet or any solution which could be fascist so you better shut up about things you have no clue or come up with some clear evidences. (Evidences like "They - breath air; you - breath air too, means that you are a fascist" doesn't' count).
Now. manager from slave factory comes on TV and takes all credit by saying that his slaves don't contribute to country because they don't pay taxes. All real factories are somewhere in between. Who do you think is a real contributor to wealth of country?
Because of greed society is moving to Factory 2 type.
This is why when you go to hospital there is not enough of nurses because some guy sits in PR department with salary of 10 nurses and write papers that in order to sort the problem hospital needs more money in order to employ 10 nurses.
The numbers for 2006 were: The top 1% earned 22% of the income and paid 40% of the federal income taxes. The top 5% earned 37% and paid 60%, the top 10% earned 47% and paid 71%, the top 25% earned 68% and paid 86%, and the top 50% earned 87% and paid 97%.
Roads cost billions of dollars an in a private system roads would cost trillions. The government can just say "this land is our land" and take it. It would be difficult and complicated to link private roads together and set speed limits and safety rules.
If the fire department was privatized then people would have to pay to have a fire put out. If that was the case the fire department would go out and start them so they could make a huge profits.
In the first example I think the best option is to contract out roads to private companies. Without multiple roads, going to the same place, owned by different companies you would end up with a monopoly, however by having private industry bid on 5-7 year contracts there is competition. If their prices get out of line, they'll lose their contracts. It would save billions in tax dollars. Plus we'd have better maintained, less congested roads.
you're a corporate-whore. a money- whore. take your fucking slimy opulence and shove it up your corporate shit-hole you fucking dork.

Really? some secretarys pay more % in tax then the CEO of a business
greenchef6 1 year ago
All those percentages mean nothing if you're not looking at what it's a percentage *of*. The "rich" could pay 99% income tax, but if they have no income, it's kinda pointless. The biggest myth is that everyone, including the rich, has income in the same way. Most people's only source of money is their income, hence taxed, the super wealthy could stop working today and not pay any income taxes for generations. The *income* tax inherently ignores the wealthy, argue the rest all you want.
mikejadoti 1 year ago
The only thing suggested by the stats at 0:19 and 1:45, is that the top 5% of America is so rich that it is sickening.
With a tax rate that's approximately double the average, they account for 60% of the income tax.
So had they paid the average tax, they'd be at about 30%, which is 75% of how much the ENTIRE other 95% pays together.
This implies that, if you combine ALL the wealth of the bottom 95%, and take 75% of that, you get an idea of how rich the top 5% actually is.
Lolznator 1 year ago
either way you look @ it, taxes make the rich richer and the poor; poorer. enough dam taxes and new laws. what about the single ppl making 25k per year and get taxed out the ass. family of 4 making 60-80k or more rich, single ppl making less than 25k poor, family of 3 making 40k poor.

War has been expensive historically. We have been at WAR economically for 50 years. Bankers love war, as they profit the most. How much has the govt borrowed over the years? Party independent? How much trade has occured on credit?
The leisure addicts of America demand govt srvcs beyond ability to pay. Consider reading: "Creature from Jekyll Island" by: G. Edward Griffin.
morseson 1 year ago
While "Jekyll" is steeped in conspiracy rhetoric. There is significant truth to the warnings against "USURY" .
Borrowing inherently devalues money, inflates costs, and ultimately widens the gap between rich and poor, lenders and borrowers.
What arguments prove that debt is good for economic growth?
morseson 1 year ago
@morseson While there is a long-term sustainability problem with our current monetary system in which money circulates as debt the ability to borrow money (which will not happen privately without usury) is very valuable economically speaking. It allows people to own property by paying a mortgage rather than renting, borrow for their education, start a new business or expand an existing one... the problems with our current monetary system can be solved without eliminating borrowing.

Yes, they can afford it. But that's not the point. What happens when $250,000 p/year is no longer the "rich" and the government deems anyone making over $50,000 needs to pay higher taxes. What's your opinion when "you" are deemed rich? $50,000 is rich compared to what I make. Maybe YOU should pay more taxes.
vegetorott 2 years ago 30
@vegetorott I'd be gad to pay extra taxes even if my $20,000 supported standard living conditions. What will do more harm someone with $5 dollars being taxed a dollar or someone with $20 being taxed $5 dollars? For someone making $50,000 the 10,000 given in taxes could have kept their family's house from being forclosed or gotten better health insurance for their family. $50,000 or even $100,000 from someone making $250,00 might upset them but it has nothing to do with their survival.

The "richest 15%" gain the most from their hard work, ingenuity and desire. Hard work, ingenuity and desire are just a few of the great characteristics possessed by our founders. Or at least they did until we a vast majority of lazy Americans with a sense of entitlement decided it would be better to have the government take the rewards reaped by hard work and disseminate them amongst the masses.

It's a farse!
lowrider1007 2 years ago
It's hard to spread this without the numbers juxtaposed... Er... the numbers meaning the percentage of income earned versus the percentage of income taxes paid. Top 1% earns 20% of the income, Top 1% pays 40% of the taxes. Most people not paying attention won't care that they pay 40% of the taxes, assuming that they probably make 80% of the income. Look up the Boortz Kucinich interview (if you can find it) for an example of such ignorance.

this is really misleading. the rich don't pay shit.
if the rich had to pay taxes we could afford all kinds of benefits. but we protect the rich because we all have dreams that we'll some day be rich.

The "rich" don't pay taxes? Did you even bother to watch this? Do mathmatical facts mean anything to you? Or is PERCEPTION your REALITY?
And exactly why should I, someone who paid attention in school, paid her way through college, and have worked her BUTT off pay for benefits for you?
Bust your own ass and pay for your own benefits!

you think the wealthy pay taxes? who do you think is buying off the politicians? the poor? with what money/ influence? Why would the rich invest millions of dollars into their power grab campaigns if not to reap residuals? seriously
1 + 1 = 2.
why do you think Bill Gates built that medical facility?
a. makes him look good
and b. SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO PAY TAXES.
did I graph it out well enough for you. if all you need is a graph to believe something...
0ldhack 2 years ago

CyclotronX, I can tell from your spelling that you're obviously a paragon of intellect. XD

What? Hey! But even when America drives out its productive class, the inventors, the dreamers, the schemers, the bankers, the financiers, the garage entrepreneurs, the hustlers and movers and shakers, because Obama knows those people are greedy bastards, right?---at least then America will still have 15% of the population of Mexico left, and look whata success story Mexico is!
right?

I feel better personally helping my neighbor whose house burned down rather than sit around and wait for a government agency from far away to give a damn. Look at the rebuilding efforts in Katrina striken areas. Government success? No. People choosing to help, not being forced to help.

And THAT is true "patriotism".
craplin 2 years ago
And, (most?) (some?) (a significant number of?) those top percentages refer not to the truly rich, the truly wealthy but to the "working affluent" who may be "rich" one year and "poor" the next.

patriot
1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion.
2. a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, esp. of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.
How is being forced by the federal gov't to pay more for what you work for being patriotic by the definition of the word? What word(s) can anyone think of for being forced into handing over wealth or monetary value? Seriously, I want to know.
craplin 2 years ago
"What word(s) can anyone think of for being forced into handing over wealth or monetary value?"
"support". i truly don't mind paying taxes because i get more for that money than i would spending it myself. if you don't want to support your country, you could live somewhere else, but i personally enjoy the fruits of several generations' taxed labor. i would be proud to keep that ball rolling because i've benefited from it.
uncleosbert 2 years ago
More than you would get if you spent it yourself?
Ha!
Maybe that is why you are so confused. Never do you receive more for a dollar spent through government than privately. There are always bureaucrats to pay and corruption to expect. Sometimes it is necessary to use a government, but this should be limited to protection and honoring of contracts.
r0bman123 2 years ago 2
If you don't mind paying taxes, then send a little more on your check to the IRS or refuse to cash your refund check. Private charities and local community churches do a better job of helping the helpless, not the clueless. The fruits of previous generations that you enjoy did not come from government or the money they took from taxpayers. Government should be limited to do only those things we cannot do for ourselves.
adventurebelle 2 years ago
"Support" exists for anything from addiction to the illegal sex trade. Nazi's had "support." This narrow-minded view you have that because one may disagree with tax policies it automatically puts it in black and white that they aren't supporting their country is pretty extreme. If that nonsense was true no one supported their country before taxes were invented. "Patriotic" has always meant much more than paying taxes, but you didn't disagree with the abuse of the word - it totally fooled you.
craplin 2 years ago
_Patriot: 1. a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotion_
...and then sells his country to China, OPEC countries etc. by taking loans from them and falling into life long debts with help of similar "patriotic" enterprises. :)
Anybody call himself a patriot and at the same time slowly destroy his own country with greedy and/or stupid actions. For example president can call himself "biggest
patriot" but his actions can lead to opposite results.

why would a populist find these facts upsetting? the richest pay the most in taxes because they have the most money. this is not so difficult to understand. it would be foolish to try to get this money from the bottom 50% because they don't have it. i would love to pay taxes on 250k, because then i'd be wealthy.
if people pay others to do their taxes, this is stimulating an industry: something a free market advocate should embrace. is it a sin to pay someone to clean my house, too? wtf?
uncleosbert 2 years ago
Stimulating an industry? You need to take an economics course. Paying others to do your taxes doesn't do much to help a nations actual production. You have simply created an industry that is needed because of the ridiculousness of some facet of society. They don't actually produce anything for the country. It does not serve to make the country more prosperous if the tax code is so difficult that it requires more and more accountants' time.
r0bman123 2 years ago
"Paying others to do your taxes doesn't do much to help a nations actual production"
so you do think it's a sin to pay someone to clean my house? service industries are industries too. that's an awfully elitist definition of "industry". waiters don't produce anything either, nor do concierges or even accountants. you could argue that a bartering system would be more efficient because there would be no accountants necessary at all: just produced goods exchanged for others.
why am i wrong?
uncleosbert 2 years ago
Because those industries were created out of demand. There is a demand for house cleaning because people rather not clean after themselves if they have the money to pay another. They rather eat out to have fun on a friday night.
The increasing need of accountants is a result of the governments overreach into our lives. They have made an incredibly difficult to understand tax code that not only taxes us, but requires outside services to comprehend. It is an industry that is made necessary by gov

Cool video, Id like to know a few more facts. Out of all the wealth earned in the US how much do the top 1% make, how much do the top 5% make, how much do the top 10% make? if the top 10% make 90% of the wealth in the country shouldn't they be paying 90% of the taxes?
uspm4a1 2 years ago
So rich pays more taxes because they are just reselling wealth which is created by bottom 50%.
If bottom 90% (people who work at farms and factories, also teachers and scientists) will suddenly disappear then top 10% will die from hunger because people who creates actual goods will be gone.
This is one of the reasons why companies usually fires managers first - people who lives from wealth created by others.
EJocys 2 years ago
Yeah, sure.
haytubenon 2 years ago
Yes, because people cannot even grow their own food... right? Are you really that stupid?
utubehayter 2 years ago
My comment is not about ability to grow food. Its about rich people claiming that they contribute more just because they pay more taxes when actually they are paying taxes with wealth created by others.
And yes, if you instantly remove everyone who manufactures goods (lower, middle class, ...) then loads of rich people will become poor and die from huger. Knowledge in economy doesn't guaranty skills in science, agriculture or medicine. Similar things already happened during social revolutions.
EJocys 2 years ago
You have an extremely bizarre notion of wealth creation. Is it simply the man who a assembles the widget who is responsible for its creation? What about the man who paid the wages for that man? Bought the raw materials? Paid to transport those raw materials? How about the man who took the risk and loaned capital to the gentleman who wanted to open the widget factory?
You seem to be stuck in a subsistence farming mentality.
nnjhansen 2 years ago 2
How do you think manager pays wages? He simply sells products of his workers and takes his cut. Money are generated from wealth, not other way around. In order to get money you need to create and sell goods first. Workers can survive without expensive managers but managers with empty factory will bankrupt. Only slaves think that employer supports them. Independent person thinks that he is selling his skills to employer (profitable deal for both sides).
EJocys 2 years ago
Actually, in order to create anything you first need capital. You must be funded or you have nothing to make anything with. You have no raw materials, no machinery, no power to drive the machinery...
Funny how when the owners decide to close a factory, the workers are unable to continue to work there. They retain the same skill set, the building is still there, the machinery is intact, the only thing missing is the person willing to pay to run it.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
EJocys 2 years ago
Do you think you can just open a factory and start making widgets? You need capital, whether that is in the form of currency or some other store of wealth. That capital can take the form of a promissory note, you guarantee (based on previous history, good name, trustworthiness) that you will repay what is loaned and the lender accepts in the belief that your plan is sound and he will recover his investment. You have created NOTHING and yet you have capital to commence your enterprise.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
Actually you can. Loads of people can start business without borrowing money. Yes, you need capital in order to start something very big, but this is alternative short cut which can be reached by flowing first path.
You can't create money from nothing (unless someone cheats and steals). Previous history doesn't count if you can't back papers with real wealth. This is why that house you "bought" with loan is not yours. It belongs to bank until you pay everything till last penny.
EJocys 2 years ago
Of course you can start a business without borrowing money, you self fund. That is, in effect, borrowing from yourself.
Money (currency) is simply a convenient store of wealth. I can create wealth from "nothing" if by what you mean by "nothing" is the lack of a manufactured object. I may have an idea that is of value to someone else and they pay me for it. I have wealth and yet I have not created anything. I could stumble upon a chunk of gold or a jewel and have wealth from "nothing" too
nnjhansen 2 years ago
I agree that people can get rich by stumbling upon a chunk of gold or by winning a lottery.
Idea is another form of wealth which can have very high value (usually you need to train your brain hard in order to have very good one). Its OK.
I just don't like when some people brag about their overrated value (like amount of taxes paid) when you know that their wealth was created by simply ripping-of modern slaves.
EJocys 2 years ago
The vast majority of wealthy people did not get that way by "ripping off modern slaves." Your notion that wealth is only created by those who perform manual labor is asinine. An owner does not hire a manager out of charity. He sees value equal with the salary he pays him. He is not ripping off anyone. Without him, the widgets just sit there and are of 0 value.
The idea that the manager is less vital to the creation of the wealth and therefore deserving of a higher tax burden is nonsensical.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
Wealth is a material goods or information which can be used to create material goods. Rest is temporary or BS. Majority of people would sell you pack of matchsticks for $1M without any moral doubt (because personal needs overweight social needs of others). I never said that manager is less worthy, good managers always must get more that simple workers. But in my life I saw too many managers who did nearly nothing and took obscene salaries, just because they can or because they knew someone.
EJocys 2 years ago
Wealth can be in whatever someone else values. It maybe completely divorced from any material good.
Whether individuals earn the salaries they make is no one's business but the person paying them. Your opinion that X does not deserve what Y pays him and therefore X should pay more in taxes is just plain bizarre.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
No it can not. Price can. For example. Value of Pablo Picasso paintings are very low by comparison with their price. It is because his paintings won't give any evolutionary advantage. Value/Wealth is something which can give you evolutionary advantage or survivability (like knowledge how to control events).
Did I said something about size of taxes? NO! I've said that some rich people, who contributes more to government budget with taxes, overrates their contribution to wealth of the country.
EJocys 2 years ago
"size of taxes" = income tax.
EJocys 2 years ago
Where do you get that wealth can only be properly measured by an evolutionary advantage? Wealth is the value of the existing stock of tangible or intangible goods. A Picasso has a value commensurate with what someone is willing to exchange for it.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
By definition wealth is valuable material goods. Some definitions include money. We both stretching our definition by including non material stuff. I just exclude anything which has agreed price. I mean, if you remove humans, keep everything else and put two new civilizations on Earth then everything will be re-evaluated. Everything which has virtual price (based on human memories) like paintings, paper money, gloves of Michael Jackson, everything with personal cultural value will be worthless.
EJocys 2 years ago
Natural resources, tools which can control environment, events and help survive and prosper will have higher value - these things are part of real wealth.
EJocys 2 years ago
Where are you getting this definition of wealth? Wealth, by definition is the value of the existing stock of tangible or intangible goods.
nnjhansen 2 years ago
I took it from sites referred by Google. Some are more popular some are less. All definitions include real/tangible goods, but not all of them include non-real/intangible goods. I agree only with first stricter definition (I can make exception only for information (knowledge) which can give evolutionary advantage.
EJocys 2 years ago
This may and is likely true, however a bad manager has a negative impact on that business. If they are costing more than they are producing they become a liability to that business. Get enough liabilities and the business goes under. If an owner decides to hire someone due to personal acquaintance as opposed to merit, they are choosing an additional liability that jeopardizes their business. That's their choice and they are punished for it through less profit or eventual bankruptcy.
AikidoSaintTKE 2 years ago
Are you seriously stupid enough to believe this crap? Paying taxes means hurting people not helpng them. So only a r-tard or psychopath can be happy about paying taxes or consider it good.
Second - Taxes don't pay for growing food or working in industry- the soviets tried that and failed miserably.
Third - Being rich is not a DNA characteristic.
Fourth - stop reading Marx and go take a job - work hard, save and become rich!
utubehayter 2 years ago
EJocys 2 years ago
Okay, lets say your ideas are right.
Then - why not tax a 100% of the profit generated by selling created wealth. After all, there is no need to pay managers, because they do nothing. Go ahead try it. Who is going to invest in a factory in your ideal world? Nobody will, unless they intend to spend their savings with absolutely no returns.
utubehayter 2 years ago
There is no 100% tax because profit serves as a reward which motivates people to create more goods (communism failed because they ignored that) .
Good managers still do good job. But now we have too many overrated managers. Salaries exceeds generated wealth (contributions). Economy crashed because people took more than wealth they created.
EJocys 2 years ago
Hang on, but you said that managers don't do anything - even worse the people who invested in the company don't do anything other than invest. So why reward them? I say be honest and take away anything that is not deserved?
(you may want to look up fascism - seems like you have a lot in common with those folks)
utubehayter 2 years ago
I never said that. I've said that managers don't create wealth and they pay taxes by reusing wealth created by others (value of their taxes is overrated).
Investments always means that you need to divide profits with somebody else (unless its some social Business Start program from government). Its not a good thing to start business from debt.
_(you may want to look up fascism - seems like you have a lot in common...)_
Yes, and you have so much in common with murderers and rapists. :)
EJocys 2 years ago
Hahaha... fascism as in the system of govt. Honest, look it up - I am not calling you a murderer or rapists. Just that I see great similarity between your ideas and those of fascism. Just research it - it is almost identical to your ideas. FDR even tried this system in the USA.
utubehayter 2 years ago
I think you know about fascism as same as pig about beetroots. I haven't advocated for any government regulation yet or any solution which could be fascist so you better shut up about things you have no clue or come up with some clear evidences. (Evidences like "They - breath air; you - breath air too, means that you are a fascist" doesn't' count).
EJocys 2 years ago
Lets say we have two factories (very simple example, no profit). Both manufactures same products (wealth).
Factory 1: 10 workers ($700 sal + $300 tax) + 1 manager ($1400 sal + 600 tax). So workers pay $3000 in taxes.
Factory 2: 10 slaves ($0 sal + $0 tax) + manager ($8400 sal + $3600 tax).
EJocys 2 years ago
Now. manager from slave factory comes on TV and takes all credit by saying that his slaves don't contribute to country because they don't pay taxes. All real factories are somewhere in between. Who do you think is a real contributor to wealth of country?
EJocys 2 years ago
Because of greed society is moving to Factory 2 type.
This is why when you go to hospital there is not enough of nurses because some guy sits in PR department with salary of 10 nurses and write papers that in order to sort the problem hospital needs more money in order to employ 10 nurses.

I will pay for national defense, roads, judicial, police, and fire departments. That's all we need the government to do.
ConservativeAthiest 2 years ago
We don't even need them for the roads or fire departments, really. Maybe the other things though. :)
aschranyt 2 years ago
Roads cost billions of dollars an in a private system roads would cost trillions. The government can just say "this land is our land" and take it. It would be difficult and complicated to link private roads together and set speed limits and safety rules.
If the fire department was privatized then people would have to pay to have a fire put out. If that was the case the fire department would go out and start them so they could make a huge profits.
ConservativeAthiest 2 years ago
In the first example I think the best option is to contract out roads to private companies. Without multiple roads, going to the same place, owned by different companies you would end up with a monopoly, however by having private industry bid on 5-7 year contracts there is competition. If their prices get out of line, they'll lose their contracts. It would save billions in tax dollars. Plus we'd have better maintained, less congested roads.
That is called arson and is against the law.
