with these tablets do you have to use wifi to install apps and actually do things. or is it kind of just like an ipod touch where you need internet access to do everything. because i have been wanting to purchase one of these tablets but i dont have a lot of hotspots that i can go to everyday i really want a tab where i can actually do things with or without internet access and i was just wondering if this is just like that. and do things come preloaded already or do you need internet? music?

The best cheap tablet I've seen so far was the Coby Kyros MID7015. It has Android 2.1, and you just need to root the device to make it have Android Market and fix some graphics issues with some applications and you're done.

Just a piece of advice: DO NOT CHOOSE A TABLET WITH A ROCKCHIPS PROCESSOR. It has two cores, ARM9 architecture, and nice speed for multitasking, but it lacks a great dedicated chipset, which makes the GUI work like bollocks, and it was awful bottlenecks on most applications.

The best cheap tablet processor is the TELECHIPS TTC8902. It has one core and 800Mhz, and be ARM11, but a great chipset that can even run 3D applications perfectly, and it can even play 1080p video with no lags.

it CAN use mouse and keyboard. has flash and usb. an open system like android that does not need a jailbreak to work properly. it does not need itunes. everything the ipad has not. and ist just 100€ incl. shipping from china. the ipad is at least 600€. jealous ?

I'd love to see this running UAE4Droid. Its an Amiga emulator. If it also supports use of mouse and/or keyboard that would be awesome. There are many Amiga fans out there who I suspect would buy this if it runs well. Mouse would be great for those strategy games too. Do post a video!

I just got the Apad, iRobot in a trade deal. He did not mod or hack it at all. He also reset it to factory settings when he gave it to me.

I am looking to get it to move as fast as yours was. Mine is very slow. I calibrated the touch sensor, but that didn't help.

I think it's running Android 1.5. I am VERY new to Tablets. I have a MyTouch Slide phone. It runs Android. I would like my tablet to run as fast.

"iPad killer?!" this thing looks very cheaply made! I even noticed the cheap looking rippled screen overlay like it's some cheap Chinese clone. Obviously not as touch responsive as the iPad, according to your motions. The 10" screen on iPad is perfect, so why would we want to have only a 7"? Might as well be using a cell phone. There is no way this thing will compete with iPad. I don't think Apple is shaking about this one.

and i like the size, it weighs about half as much as an ipad, and its more comfortable to hold

I am thinking of getting ones of these are they quick on internet? Some people say they are slow But i hear the rockchip ones are actually pretty good. Is there any truth behind that rumor?

@esko23q ..... rockchip is the best we've seen so far. The eken device is really very slow. better devices will come along but right now the rockchip is comfortable to use and the video playback is good. it's only good for simple games though as there's no 3D processor, but that's asking a lot at this stage!

@esko23q .....the rock chip performs well on the web, running multiple windows is no problem too. scrolling is nice, zooming in and ok acceptable (no pinch zooming for example, but it's totally usable much like browsing the web on a reasonable smartphone but with a bigger screen - so you don't have any problems hitting hyperlinks!).

With resistive you don't need to zoom webpages all the time to hit small links, the pen does it very fast and accurately.
