  • Oh man! I never knew that guy from Black Adder also played in House. He sure looks quite different.

  • Now that Cuttie is gone from the show, I could actually envision Atkison being brought in for a season or two to play the new hospital director who is every bit as arrogant and obnoxious as House-they could even have some back and forths together like in the Blackadder days.

  • @dkupke that would be awesome and hilarious

  • hate Mr Bean but that actor is brilliant

love House but that actor ain't bad neither

[can't help it its that durn woeful Americun education system]

  • Love House and Loved Blackadder... never put the two togeather before...

  • I love Series 3

  • Shame to all those who watched house first

  • Dr Rose from The Royal "He's Dead"

  • I remember Hugh Laurie doing a short TV series that I think was on the BBC in the early 00's before House. My guess is that the main reason he went to the states is because his career opportunities in the UK went south after that and he had no work. I know the same thing happened to Robert Carlyle who went to get a role in Stargate Universe, which I think is a great show, but has been bloody cancelled....

  • 400,001

  • My country never aired Blackadder. I knew Laurie only after I saw 101 Dalmatians. I really missed out so much. So now I intend to catch up with some Blackadder episodes.

  • Forget that House yank nonsense, Hugh Laurie will forever be Prince George. And hoorah to that.

  • thanks bean and hous the best.

  • Row Row Row your Boat.

    Gently Down the Stream.

    Belts Off, trousers down.

    Isn't Like a scream

    woof

  • Oh man! I never knew that Dr. Gregory House was once a comedy actor. Thanks be to TvTropes that led me to Blackadder through the Brian Blessed page, I now say Hugh is such an awesome actor!

  • @Archzenom That was Hugh Laurie's bread and butter - half of a comedy team Laurie and Frye...and comic musician..the drama thing came at the tail end of his career

  • @mrpentium Wow! Now my fan level of Mr. Laurie is heightened!

  • @Archzenom where do you people live, i for example live in godforsacken Serbia and been watching blackadder in mid 90 s,have all the episodes and yes hugh is a killing actor

  • @blake0110507 Well, I am from the Philippines and I never knew Blackadder till I became a troper.

  • @blake0110507

    Indeed. Comedic genius is Blackadder!

  • @blake0110507 yeah, im from Slovenia and I have been watching blackadder to since I was a kid, and i still think its much better show then house. I like house to, but blackadder is pure art :) . I guess most europeans like blackadder more, and americans like house more. Thats just the way it is.

  • If I was Blackadder, I would facepalm. But I love Gerge to much! GO HUGH LAURIE! BRITISH BORN AND BRED!

  • Escurçó Negre - Ball de Gralles de Vilafranca

  • Dr.House and Mr.Bean in the same show=Overload of epicness and humor!

  • Rowan Atkinson should guest star on House as a guy who got bitten by an adder.

To most people it'll be funny because "Hey look, it's Mr. Bean!", but to fans of Blackadder they'll recognize it as a nod to one of the best comedies ever in the form of a pun.

  • @DigitalBookWorm Your first comment made me laugh VERY loud. Ha! That would be awesome!

  • @DigitalBookWorm I'm not sure whether it's a throwback to Blackadder, but it one of the earlier episodes of House, Cameron says to Cutty and Wilsonwhen they're sort of conspiring against House, that they "better come up with a cunning plan or else!". I got very excited at that point.

  • @empireoats

Haha, I'll take it. xD Even if it's not, it's nice to pretend.

  • @DigitalBookWorm Definitely! :)

  • @DigitalBookWorm best comment !!!

  • I love Black Adder. One of the best comedies ever made.

  • Fry and Atkinson totally need to be guests on House on day

  • @togirl188 - thanks fir the info, I didn't think burra was right. Sounds like the voting districts here in the U.S.!

  • @szqsk8 technically a rotten borough was one which had no reason to be an electoral district- by then lots of rural boroughs were derelict and had almost nobody living in them as they had not been updated with population change. There's a famous example of one old borough which had no inhabitants at all as by then it was completely underwater, but which was still represented by an 'elected' mp. Since this was clearly insane, they were called rotten boroughs and redrawn. History lesson over!

  • "Well-filled trouser". LOL! I love this show. I discovered it here on BBC America.

    What is a "rotten burra?"

  • @szqsk8

he is saying 'a rotten borough'. He's referring to an electoral district that has rigged voting.

  • Blackadder is one word, its his surname.

  • hugh laurie<3

  • what's all that screaming from the audience in aid of?

  • Ironically that wasn't even the Prince Regent's best moment, far from it.

  • @theguycalledchris But Atkinsons face in his response is priceless.

  • Atkinson must be one of the greatest actors never to go to footlights!

  • Rowan's stare DESTROYS you.

  • i have a cunnng plan :)

  • God bless Black Adder. Love all of it. I can watch it all day every day. A++++++. It's sad. How legends one day and oldies the next.

  • @MajorEasley

I could watch it 24/7 as well, so I know you are cool, but after that I do not get your meaning.

You cannot be a legend until you ARE an oldie.

Do you mean popular once and then largely forgotten? That does suck!

    addie

  • @addiefleur lolSorry thats what i meant i am actually sitting here doing my taxes and watching it now. Have a good one buddy.

  • Legends!!!!

  • This was a great episode to choose to show on Actors Studio.

  • @NJburbsSeeker Yeah i think it was Lauries best role throughout

  • I use to love watching Blackadder on PBS.

  • Hee hee! That's one of my favorite moments in Season 3. "LUCK..luck-luck-luck!"

  • @thegorn68 What about this one:

Blackadder: Now call to her romantically.

George (nodding and then hesitating for a moment): Oi! Come on out here, you lolloping, jolloping sauce bottle!

  • for me it was soooo stange to see Hugh Laurie playing doctor House. He was brilliant in Black Adder

  • Just finished Black Adder season 3 here in the USA, British comedies are the best. Can't wait to get Season 4.

  • watch it with transcribe audio on, it's weird!

  • hard to believe that this is Dr.House

  • i love his high and irritating voice and that idiot/panicking look in his eyes :D

    laurie is brilliant!

  • @sonofspam88 Lol. English does not="faggoty".

  • I don't understand. Where is House's cane?

  • When I first saw house, I thought this guy looks so familiar. It took me months before it clicked and I thought. Was he in black adder? It was so shocking. I looove black adder!

  • Thought I was done laughing...

Took a sip of ice tea...

Ice tea all over my keyboard and computer screen.

  • I've learned two valuable lessons whenever watching Laurie, Fry, or Atkinson:

    NEVER drink anything

    ALWAYS keep my inhaler handy

  • @ZarabethS179

Now THAT is sound advice. :)

  • i think... its incredibly amazing... how he can pull of an american accent in house but speak in the british accent he grew up with in normal conversation/other times!

    its its AMAZING

  • Rowan Atkinson should guest star on house.

  • @Vostokification

as a clinic patient, if possible (I miss clinic patients)

  • hahahahaha LOVE blackadder the third.

  • at some dude who thinks laurie sold out on house: house is a great production, one of the best shows out there right now. Makes you laugh, makes you cry, keeps you on your toes....Im sure Hugh can be proud of the character he's portraying right now as he is proud as his George bits in Blackadder.

  • oh yeah, he's great just like another british guys... love 'em all

  • i love laurie as a 16th century man :]

  • its really the 18th century or early 19th century

  • 1780s.

  • that was 18th century :)

  • 18th century. he is playing crown prince George. date is around 1780s.

  • I love jeeves and Wooster

  • Ive been watching blackadder on video since i was a toddler its brill

  • Incredible !

  • Obviously, youve never watched 'House' otherwise you wouldnt have made such an idiotic comment.

House is brilliantly written and acted.

Good on Hugh for making it such a great success.

  • yes I have watched House otherwise I wouldn't have dared criticise. it's just my opnion.

  • @nomie2005 here here! Hugh is a fantastic charactor actor!!

  • @kataka64

Seriously? I can appreciate that this has to do with the fact that you are (presumably) British...but House M.D. is really an incredible show. Definitely not the same calibur as Black Adder or Jeeves and Wooster...or even A Bit of Fry and Laurie...but really, major respect is due for House M.D.

  • @kataka64

Obviously, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but in what way did he "sell out" by starring in House? Just because it's an American show? Because it isn't a comedy? To "sell out" is to give up one's principles/integrity for money: yes, he must be getting paid very well for the role, but not at the cost of his principles or credibility.

  • @EnigmaDrath - I agree. Just because he wants to branch out into regular acting in the States. Yeah, we've lost Laurie the comedian here in the UK (we've still got all the Blackadder episodes we can watch again and again though!), but I'm glad the US are now appreciating him.

  • @EnigmaDrath

i agree with you but house is comedy!

  • @EnigmaDrath House is excellent (commenting as an English guy) and as good as any UK TV he did ... but in the UK for 20+ years his bag was comedy. He was Oxbridge & probably thought he should be pushing out Macbeth or King Leah too. He didn't sell out - but when the subject of money is introduced & (I honestly don't know) he probably thought ... they want to pay me how much? ... He probably thought doing a job in the States (big time) for big bucks (big time) was selling out?

  • @nickwalsalltown75

Yeah, people use "sell out" too freely.

To be fair, it wasn't like the producers had Laurie in mind from the start. He himself auditioned for the role, before a payroll was established, so I don't think it was about the money to him. They didn't even know back then if the show was going to be a hit. Laurie was known before that for his comedies, but he is first and foremost an actor and actors love playing interesting characters, and House certainly is one of those.

  • @EnigmaDrath Well played, sir!

  • what episode was this of blackadder? it just looks interesting... and funny... to watch....

  • It series 3

    its called Dish and Dishonesty

prince George is thretened to be striked from the civil list.

  • Blackadder Goes Forth is my favourite.

  • Blackadder II: The best of the Blackadders.

  • I understand that the Blackadder series are not well known in the USA. That's a shame. If any of you are fans of Python humour you will love Blackadder. It's not as blatently silly as Python but it's excellent, particularly if you appreciate comedy British style.

  • In the UK, we're told to watch Blackhadder for our English literature WW1 essay exams. Only light relief in the subject :P

  • i just LOVE british comedy

  • Atkinson must die a little inside whenever he's recognised as Mr. Bean rather than his other, outstandingly good, characters...

Atkinson and Laurie are both absolutely amazing.

  • mr. bean is good.

  • @Wroyth You're right, however in Europe he is still well known for Blackadder and also his stand up comedy from the 80s and 90s, as in some parts of Asia that are British colonies (where I am from). I am not sure how well blackadder is known in the USA? Some of the audience there seems to be well familiar with it.

  • @Wroyth

Same can be said for Hugh only being identified (by americans that is) as Dr House.

  • @Wroyth As is Fry, McInnerny, Robinson, Mayall and Richardson. But Mr. Bean IS an oudstandingly good character. He is recognised as a British icon. When somebody says 'physical comedy', Mr. Bean instantly springs into mind.

  • @Wroyth mr.bean is a good character too.

  • @Wroyth I fully concur. Hell, I die a little inside when that happens. In my English class senior year of high school we watched part of the episode of Blackadder the Third with the actors (this preceded reading Macbeth), and so many of my classmates thought it was Mr. Bean, and were saying things like "why's he talking?"

  • @Freakears

it says something of the US education system when a teacher chooses to rely on an episode of Blackadder to teach Shakespeare. Sorry, but OMG.

  • @togirl188 My teacher didn't rely on the episode to teach, she just showed a bit of it because we had been discussing how saying "Macbeth" is allegedly unlucky.

  • @Wroyth

In mimicry and manners, mr. Bean is almost unsurpassed. Blackadder is based on sharp whit and snide remarks, mr. Bean relies heavily on a facial expression of absolute idiocy. Of course Blackadder is much more sophisticated as a character, but please don't say mr. Bean is anything short of genius. I love both of them, and I look longingly for anything Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and/or Rowan Atkinson produce. Outstanding men.

  • @Wroyth 2 most brilliant British actors ever, they must star together again in a movie or show, THEY MUST!

  • i hope that's a joke lol

  • Hugh Laurie is British NOT American lol!

  • You are so confused. It's called HOUSE M.D, look it up!!!

    Geeez.

  • WTF are you on about??????? I am saying Hugh Laurie is BRITISH NOT AMERICAN!!!!

  • a true American patriot.

  • ah, i love blackadder, my fav is blackadder goes fourth. :) it is amazing

  • hey people Hugh also played the rober in 101 dalmation!!!

  • @panzarw Well, one of them. The other one later played Mr. Weasley in Harry Potter.

  • oooh and remember stuart little???

  • thats not the only british comody he did also its James Hugh Calum Laurie =D

  • I actually knew Blackadder before I knew House (Canada gets BBC shows, and I find them hilarious!) I loved that show, it was so funny, and the contrast of the two characters is even more hysterical.

  • How could you not known, that he was British?

  • are you serious?

  • Its so dissapointing everyone sees hugh as the guy from house nowadays, and have no idea about the other things he has done.

  • If it weren't for the House we would have just moved on saying something on the lines "oh that guy from that show".

  • Well, the way I see it, Laurie's newfound popularity with Dr. House can only help increase visibility for this classic.

  • @MoltenPlastic True

  • True, he's a great actor though it's unfortunate many people didn't even know about him before House. It's great for people who didn't know of him before to discover his talent now though. :) He was hilarious in Black Adder.

  • @Deviantial True, by being House I think he's doing a service to shows like Blackadder and Fry and Laurie that are not as well known in the USA (at least I think they are not) as Monty Python or Fawlty towers. I find that my American college friends end up searching for these shows, and enjoying them as well.

  • Black Adder a great series.

  • OMG This guy is a great actor I didn't even recognize that this guy is house as well as his Blackadder character.

  • God, this was great, and very, very disturbing to a House fan like me. The pilot for the new season (crazy asylum season) just came out last night, and that makes the best dichotomy for an actor I have ever seen in a 24 hour period.

  • @YetAnotherCollegeKid You should also check out the seasons of A Bit of Fry and Laurie if you haven't. You'll see yet another side of Laurie (brilliant) in that.

  • Black Adder is the one of the best series. Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry are very good comedian actors.

    A fan from Hungary

  • By the way, the scene when Prince is looking for his-ever missing-socks is much more funnier: "Still, for me socks are like sex, tons of it about and I never seem to get any" Hilarious:):):);)

  • @Monamika84 And those ENORMOUS trousers, certainly.

  • I love the picture at 0:23. Rowan as Lord Edmund Blackadder looks so good:)

  • He does :)

  • shit do americans get blackadder

  • no, it is not broadcast .

  • its weird. half the audience are clapping insanely and half look pissed off

  • @mrpentium it was shown on PBS in the northeast

  • i get it !

  • Yes, online.

There's a place where you can get all the episodes.

  • @cheekyegg

Yeah it was broadcast on a local

    channel KETC here in Missouri.

My family has a couple of old VHS

    tapes full of em.

  • @cheekyegg You can download it from iTunes if you'd like!

  • @cheekyegg Yup...

  • who is the interviewer? I'd like to see the whole interview

  • James Lipton....who runs the Actor's Studio. Search YouTube for it, for many interviews with actors. I guess your British, as many Americans recognize him.

  • i love it when blackadder buys his robes of state and theyre made of cat :L :L

  • what can i say british humor is so much better than all american crap.

  • I beg to differ. I'm American. There's good and bad in each. Currently, there's no one who can compare to the wit of a Robin Williams.

  • I agree with you in that there is good and bad in each but, im sorry, the WIT of robin williams?! he's not terribly witty when he's saying something in a fucking duck voice

  • Before you say that, see his Interview with James Lipton on The Actor's Studio...it is genius. Even better than this one.......it's here on YouTube..then tell me what you think......OK?

  • I wouldn't say wit was Williams' strong suit. He's brilliant, a genius, very amusing, but witty? I think he's somewhat lacking in that department. Oscar Wilde was witty, but I don't think anyone has been able to be as witty as he in all these years.

  • Absolutly!

  • sosososososososososososososSO!!! TRUE!!!

  • @Marcusvi23 ya got that right!

  • Blackadder, when Hugh Lawrie wasn't an issuferable whining stubbly crappy-ass doctor.

  • cluck cluck cluck hahahahahhaah he's too funny, I prefer him in comedies rather than the series "House"...I think that show is too dark...also, the second best comedy is MY FAMILY with Bob Lindsay

  • The expression on Black Adder's face after he does the chicken impression is just hilarious!

  • i ♥ this!!!!!!!!!!and chickens

  • 0:54 you can see the look on his face "aw crap"

  • buying any of the Black Adder tv series is unique and WELL WORTH EVERY PENCE! BUY THEM AND LAUUUUGH ALL NIGHT

  • I did!!!And I can't stop laughing.I don't think I have seen anything funnier than blackadder.I forced my husband to watch it and he doesn't even speak English!
