Oh, and they managed to preserve the muscles inside the eye socket, so she can move her artificial eye - very neat...when I look at her now I hardly remember that she only has one eye. How clever to equip the body with two of many of our limbs and organs. Btw - she was also very happy to talk about it afterwards. I am a historian, so for me it was cool to see how far they've come technologically in the world of prosthesis - much better to talk about it than just keeping quiet and mourn the loss

One of my friends lost her eye because of this amoeba. She had a long and very painful treatment programme but eventually they surgically removed her eye. The good part of the story is that she is no longer in pain and lives perfectly with one eye. Not long after she got a very nice prosthesis and now she's back in her job as a lawyer.

i use contacts im not good about taking them out & cleaning them, for 2 weeks, my eye has been burning, is very sensative to light, feels like theres glass in it, so painful i went 2 the doctor, he couldnt see anything buh, he said i had a sist under the lid but i have looked under the lid and felt way up under it, and theres nothing. buh if there is a sist im scared it could be a parasite, anyone no if a doctor would be able to see this parasite this vid tlks about and if so how can u cure it.

i've had acanthamoeba. lost sight in my left eye as a result. it took nearly three excruciating months to kill the parasites under the right treatment. the symptoms you describe were the same; the extremely painful burning, sensitivity to light, feeling like there's glass in it etc.

yes, the doctor can see the amoebas in the eye, but you need a good doctor who knows what they're looking at. i saw four different doctors, who all looked into my eye with their microscopes, before finally one of them recognized what they were actually looking at. if you are still feeling these symptoms i would get another opinion. if you have acanthamoeba you need to get on chlorhexidine drops immediately to save the eye.

Ive been diagnosed with ancanthamoeba keratitis,took 4 months to figure it out,2 biopseys later,now in 5th month,started treatment with brolene,and chlorhexidine drops,plus itraconazole pills 3 weeks ago,no progress so far,My dog scratched my cornea with the pad of his foot,Ive been told it could take from 3 months to 2 years to kill the infection,then i still might need a cornea transplant because of scarring,worst thing ever,I would suggest not using contacts
