  • I want that.

  • I read the title wrong :(

  • Looks just like a silver alto?

  • Do you think I could do that on a Jupiter Bass Clarinet?

  • The dude playing reminds me of like the grim reaper or something....

  • You display absolutely no knowledge of

    1. how no instrument that you could ever name is more beautiful than a bass clarinet.

    2. musicianship in general

    3. the fair English language.

I suggest you go down to the dollar store, buy some bleach and ammonia, take it home, mix it all together and breathe in the fumes veeeeery deeply.

    God Bless :D

  • Umm? Me? I am praying that for the sake of your intellect that you are not trying to portray me as an mentally declined musician, because I am not. I am hoping and wishing that you are talking about the owner of this video because otherwise your comment makes absolutely no sense.

    Thanx/No Thanx

    <3 YA anyway

  • Um I was referring to the musician in the video. I would think that that's kind of a given. o.O

  • @7venus13 it doesnt really matter what it looks like. its about the music

  • nice, however you sound a little squeaky, might just be a reed problem.

  • Awesome! But why do you hide your face?

  • they have them on the net, just have to look around

  • great!! where do you buy this instrument?? ..how much?

  • There's one on ebay

  • send me link ..please :) thanks

  • I like it.

  • is it you or the bass clarinet that won't play above the break?

  • sounds a hot mess

  • that lukes like a tenor sax, amazing

  • It's a treasure hunt...Pawn shop, thrift store, yard sale, Craigslist...Who knows?

  • If you want something good that may be affordable look for an older Noblet, an Evette-Schaeffer, or a Conn made in the 1930s that isn't cracked. Now "littleindian" might tell you Conn is terrible, and I'd have to ask which Conn. If it's from the 30s the serial number will be between 260,000 and 300,000, but be careful because they started the serial numbers over again later and started producing junk. The model you may want for Conn is the 452N.

  • You'd have to search quite a bit to find an old metal bass and then you will be disappointed, but I could guarantee you that if you want a search, then search for the right Conn and it will be worth the trouble. You have to find the right one, and it will be both fabulous and unique.

  • No way, you couldn't play this thing at school. It is very difficult to get a bearable sound out of this beast. And... The guy who was knocking Noblet is an idiot, or he only tried one Noblet and found a bad one, or he was using the wrong mouthpiece or something. A new Noblet won't be as good as an older one. Some old Noblets were pro models equal to the modern LeBlanc. For a bass clarinet the LeBlanc is about as good as it gets, and you DON'T want a metal bass unless it's a LeBlanc.

  • @Taxijazz I'm sorry but, Leblanc isn't that great of a brand. Even their top of the line pro models only have a single register vent. Noblet is a decent brand though. When buying a metal bass, Kohlert is the way to go.

  • noblet's are bad, dont buy one. 800 is a reasonable price though. the player in this video is really bad. no offense, there just not demonstrating the instrument terribly well... in fact thre demonstrating it terribly. i would love to hear one played well.

  • i have one

  • Cool and great playing but I thought bass clarinets were way bigger. Anywho, someday in a few decades when I can actually afford one, I want a black one; they're swish.

  • It looks like a sax

  • I love the instrument and he plays fantastic.

I love the visual too. One of my favorites on YouTube without doubt.

  • Wasn't the most exciting song.

  • Good, it was supposed to be morbid.

  • Sweet Bass Clarinet, it'll be worth lots some day. Pretty nice playing too!

  • The sound is fine these other people are just critics that have no clue what the hell they are talking about... Although I do agree with hanging it on a wall. Thats piece of beauty is going to be worth alot someday.. But keep getting it checked out and things, because it will be worth 10-000-000 times more if its in playing condition.

  • u keep squeaking try wetting the read more and tightening up ur amb.

  • im not trying to be an asshole or anything here but its spelled reed not read just so ya know

  • can i have that silver bass clarinet

    i like it a lot

    cool

  • Jeeeeez go outside!!!!!!!

  • do you have a hood on to hide your pained face because it is so hard to play? lol. I'm just kidding. that is really cool.

  • I do too, but I don't brag about it on other people's vids.

but I want that bass clarinet!

  • No you don't want one...you'd sound terrible. I make more money playing clarinet than the people who complain about my playing here could ever dream of. The best use for me for this metal bass was hanging on my wall. Some metal clarinets are fantastic, but not a bass unless it's a LeBlanc.

  • I play bass clarinet 15times better than this guy!!

  • Well Suicidal, it was supposed to represent The Reaper.

  • this bass cl looks so small compared to mine

  • Same size as a wooden bass... a little skinnier

  • i like the bass clarinet ive never played 1 myself but it has a beautiful deep sound that i have always liked

  • i rock the bass clarinet!!(not really) i want one like that. good job

  • You don't want one like that. It's really hard to play...Just looks cool.

  • wheres ur face?

  • you suck

  • your kinda dumn you need a neck strap for something that rare and valuable

  • he is using one. if you pay attention it is impossible for him to play it the way he is without one. I am going to guess that you play (or have played) BCL, try standing and playing like that without a strap and you will see what i mean.

on another subject, it is spelled dumb, not dumn

  • Actually, I wasn't using a neckstrap. It was difficult but not impossible. ...And I thank you for your comment.

  • I rarely use a neckstrap, and i completely agree on the fact that its not worth using unless its a LeBlanc, that and the metal one belongs on a wall or a meusam(sp)

  • Seems a lot different in sound, but a lot more like a saxophone really

I think that silver bass clarinet is pretty snazzy looking!

    Bass Clarinet For Life :D

  • Is the silver bass clarinet smaller then the original bass clariet? Sorry for the stupid question. I just started B flat bass clarinet at school and it's SO hard!!!!!

  • I love bass clarinets. One of the most emotionally deep instruments, in my book.

  • sounds like it chirps a lot more than a wooden clarinet. but hey it might be better for jazz cuz it could produce more volume

  • Hey man i love jazz for the bass clarinet but i need to know dose the silver bass clarinet produce the same quality of sound as the wooden one i was told it dosent

  • No way. Far from the same quality of sound.

  • Thanks i needed to know

  • OMG!XamiNaxamis I sooooo agree with u! ppl always thibnk I play trombone when my bass clarinet is in its case!

  • Wow, ppl always think I'm carrying a trombone when I go to band to play bass clarinet. Very frustrating!

  • Pretty cool sound i would say

  • I agree with partylobseter. The silver clarinet looks a lot smaller than my wooden one.

  • It's the same size as a wooden one.

  • the shaft s a little bit skinnier!! i have a silver clarinet and the shaft is thinner because the silver wont snap like a twig lke the wood and plastic one would...i am now playing the silver Bb Contrabass Clarinet...yeehaa...

  • dude that was pretty nasty how long u been playing?

  • Read the other posts.

  • Maybe it's just me but that silver one looks smaller than a black one... but sounds the same. hmm... Anyway, it's amazing! I want one.

  • This ain't no LeBlanc. It's an antique. The same size as a wooden bass, but it doesn't sound nearly as good as wood--Or different for the sake of what's good, or "right". I liked this song, and the effect that I presented with it--Dismal I thought.

  • i cant say i enjoyed that,

but i wish i had a silver bass clarinet

rather than the crappy one i have now.

  • I don't play Bass clarinet, and my hands are crippled from smashing a bottle on someones face, so I can't play. I enjoyed the experiment, and it was to represent it as mediocre for the sake of avoiding an unhappy customer when it was sold on the Silver Clarinet Site.

  • I always laugh when I hear these people complain about technique. Do they think Sidney Bechet ever sat down with a metronome and made sure his vibrato was perfectly regular and his tone was smooth and flat and soulless like how it's supposed to be? He just played what he thought sounded good. It was real jazz, with fire and individuality and creativity and more life than people who watch youtube videos only so they can complain because someone isn't doing it right will ever know.

  • I think it sounds good.

So the instrumetn is made entirely out of silver?

  • Silver plated brass. A rare antique. It sold for about $1,000 to a collector. I don't think it was a really good players horn.

  • really? isn't that kind of cheap for a bass clarinet?

  • It was a good price, and sold very fast. I have a wooden Noblet that I might sell for $800 soon...Probably on ebay.

  • i'd totally buy it....if i had money.

    bass clarinets are expensiveee

  • you think you dont need to practise???????????????

people pay you to listen to that,

    i am shocked.

  • No. You can practice English if you want. See my other videos if you want shocking.

  • I've got a metal soprano clarinet I bought at an antique store. It's pretty old, but I dont know how old. good job on this anyway.

  • See Silver-ClarinetDOTcom

  • ok...notice that his name is "taxijazz" for all you people who think you know everything, that is what jazz bass clarinet is supposed to sound like so enough of thinking you know everything about tone quality.

    good job! youre cool!

  • It is true, you do need to do some practice that is all everybody is saying Iam sure, but dont get so phased by the comments...just practice! I respect you for having the courage to put your self up there but you know if you do then people are just going to tear it to pieces if you are not ready. Take good care and play more Cheers R

  • No, I don't need practice, really I don't. I need to sell another one of my clarinets. I already made enough money playing to retire. I used to practice 8 hours a day when I was getting paid -- but I never played a Bass. I've got some great clarinet that I never play anymore at all. They are all for sale.

  • either the clarinet just sounds bad cause its old or they need a new reed

  • Older clarinets often sound better than new because of a higher degree of quality materials and superior craftsmanship. This presentation was supposed to sound "bad", and it had a new reed.

  • thats not an alto clarinet, alto clarinets are boss

  • exactly!

  • nice instrument...good job man!

  • cool i also play the bass clarinet, but i am only in intermediate not advanced

  • Your clarinet is shit-hot! but i do reckon it's some kind of alto not bass. Your vibrato is pretty nice i think.

  • The guy who bought this can't complain if the horn sounds lousy. It would kill 'ya, like the reaper. Kind of heavy too. The beast was hard to handle, and I don't play Bass Clarinet; but in this case I play like I want, and find quibbling clarinetist to be amusing. More proof that a clarinet can drive a person crazy--I'm glad I don't play 'right'.

  • It doesn't matter what you sound like, it just matters that you are gtting into it and where did you get it! I have seen Contrabass clarients that are metal but that is truely new to me. What brand is it and how old??? Go for it! keep it up!

  • It's a Kohlert. Maybe 75 years old.

  • It's a bass clarinet with a low E instead of the more commonly seen low Eb's range. At least it looks that way to me but I'm pretty sure on it. Alaric?

  • Why is everyone bitching about this? It's called freedom to post as we please-- evidently Alaric chose to post with the freedom of accepting comments. Why all the nagging negativity? Damn. Nice bass clarinet-ing, Alaric, now all we need is to find some bass clarinet players that aren't going to complain about everything! I'm going back to flute now!

  • Yeah.... I use vibrato on clarinet. But not as much as I did once I learned how to truly do it (Not lipping it) Bass clarinet is a cool insturement in its own. That was an example of overusing vibrato. Tone was alright, needs improvement but hey whatever, you can play and come people can even express themselves through music.

Well as far as the "song" went. It really sounded like messing around.

  • I play Bass Clarinet to and it is hard to play it but, Im still fire.

  • dun mind me.. did anyone even considered the fact tat it might be an alto clar instead of a bass ? i looks pretty small. unless its a bass clar with small low register. haha

  • A Bass, and not small at all. A heavy metal bass.

  • yea tht lookds like a sax lol awesome plarinet but u suck. i can do tht. and make it sound better. but yea.

  • A weird sounding horn, and you'd wonder what 'better' is if you played it. I don't play bass clarinet, but the few days I tried I sounded much better I think on anything else. I don't deal in 'better' anyway--I deal in weirdness maybe. See my other videos.

  • bass clarinets rock out loud XD i play it too

  • ALARIC! How do I keep finding you under every few instrument-related searches I put in random places? First ebay and NOW here! You've been holding out on me, buddy-- I didn't know you had a metal bass clarinet! Shame on you for not telling me!

  • clarinets dont use vibrato at all

your tone was ok at best

also that song was a joke

  • piratesthatpwn clarinets do use vibrato just listen to Gervase de Peyer,Reginald Kell,Walter Boeykens,Artie Shaw,Benny Goodman just to name few classical and jazz clarinetists.

  • Also Harold Wright and Johnathan Cohler (sorry if the spelling's wrong) use vibrato

  • Yeah the song was horrendous. And your tone IS TERRIBLE!!!

  • Yeah but it got your attention. And it might make it worth it if you see my other videos

  • you should really learn to do some research before posting uninformed posts. Pathetic.

  • now i dont really want to get to involved in this, but I know about bass clarinet cause i have been playing for many many many years.

  • next play vibrato with that tone at your alstate compention and see what the judges say when you Gervase de Peyer,Reginald Kell,Walter Boeykens,Artie Shaw,Benny Goodman plays with vibrato. Also many in fact all near all of them dont play only bass clarinet. i can keep going but i think i have proven my point.

Last im going to ingore every thing else you say cause you "learn to do some research"

  • I don't know what you are talking about. Sorry you don't like the beast, and thanks for your comment.

  • wow,that looks like a sax

  • You are awsome. I play bass clarinet too.

  • that horn is sweet, and that is a killer vibrato there, I can't get one at all...
