The words of this antiphon come from Phil. 2:8-9.

Some experts think that this is the best piece of Gregorian chant: it was used in the Holy Week.

All combined, this antiphon is one of the most beautiful expression (in Latin) of our Christian faith.

I'm singing this chant at a Mass of Thanksgiving Sunday afternoon. It's so beautiful!

usquea Ad mortem, Mortem autem crucis.

Proter quod et Deus exaltavit illum et dedit

nomne, quod est super omne nomen

Christ became obedient for us unto death,

even to the death of the Cross

above all name.
