  • Thanks for putting subtitles in your vids so us non-ASL hearies can understand.

  • @banjobanjo2 Anytime and also many thanks for leaving kind words, I always appreciate hearing it. :-D

  • Sadly, people stereotype groups of people, whether it's blonde women (they're all stupid), overweight people (they're all lazy slobs), etc.

  • you;re cute

  • Yeah not everyone is the same, but some people still assume...

By the way I like your vids, and especially the captions for people like me that can't read ASL

    Peace...

  • What was it that he assumed specifically?

  • Hi kreiger,

Just basically not every deaf person is the same who would take a joke. That hearing guy loves to tease, sometimes he'd go too far so since he teased a lot with me, he thought all other deaf persons are the same like me.

The result other deaf person did not take it too well. So he was confused. :-)

  • Ooh, I see. Yeah, not every person is the same. Funny how people can think that.

  • How can anyone think that deaf people are all the same? I mean it's like a deaf person saying all hearing people are all the same. Each person is different. Well, that's just my thoughts on it.

  • Hey there,

You seem like really nice guy...there aren't many out there. Kudos for sticking up for your friend and for being calm around your ignorant (I mean that kindly) coworker.

    Heather

  • I was wandering are all of you deaf people using the same sign language? Is there some international sign language just like English is international verbal language?

  • Hey ShwangShwing,

Oh sure glad you asked. Most of all countries have their own sign languages just like spoken language. For instance, Japan has their own sign language which is very different than us just like their spoken language is different than English.

So, yeah just like spoken language, many sign languages are different as well. Whenever we travel, we have to learn their signs to be able to understand them just like you'd learn their spoken language to be able to communicate.

  • Thanks for the info :). Do you have international sign language? Like there's international spoken language: English.

    Regards

  • Not really but there are some sign languages who are well-known signs in the world that all countries use the same for example how you sign "I Love You" is popular used in the world. So I guess just a few same for the international signs. :-)

  • English is International? Universal? really?

  • Well... kind of... I don't understand what's your point.

  • @ShwangShwing yes there is diff languga it dose have to be all same at the usa wast they have english and at north asl have u hear of it?

  • Thank you for adding subtitles to your video. I can't understand ASL but I really enjoy your videos!

  • What does your first sign mean, flicking your index finger?

  • Oh it's like.. OMG or wow. :-)

    -SG

  • Cool, thanks!

  • OMG,Wow,awful,hate...etc. Many English words for one sign. Depends on the context.

  • Thanks, I did not realize about context.

  • Enjoy watching your story. Is it possible that the guy joking around thought he cld joke with your friend same as you because you all work close together in office? If he made bad joke, it may not be a "deaf" thing. It sounds like jst a normal office and people thing. Maybe your stereotyping hearing?

  • I'm good friend with him and we hang out, etc. He was never around with Deaf people in his life so he met us for the first time, it was like all new to him.

We tend to tease and everything since we both on same team, other Deaf joined on our team so he did same thing to him, that's how he blew up.

Hearing guy admitted that he didn't realize we weren't alike. It is common where some people think Deafies are all alike and vice versa.

    -SG

  • Never thanked you for responding...I understand your point now. You're right, people do that with any group of people they don't know - they meet one person and think that represents the whole group. Wonder why we do that?

  • haha i hate zits especially when nobody tells you.

  • I hope you popped that sucker!

  • that was funny....

  • maybe you could teach us about how to cook. lol
