The most misleading video on YouTube. It was the UVF who started murdering in 66' and who planted the first bombs in the late 60s. It was loyalism that opposed political concessions designed to grant civil rights to catholics. And lets not forget that it was Catholics who were the victims of the most brutal and overtly sectarian regime in Europe (if not the world) for nearly half a decade. You can pretend that the IRA started the troubles, but if you actually knew anything, you would know that the re-established UVF was the first to murder anyone in what would become know as "the Troubles". The IRA at this time were turning to the left, and then when the pogroms of 69 occurred, there was a need for defense(which the IRA at that time could not provide), and that was the birth of the Provisionals. I think it's funny how this video starts in the early 70s not in 68 or 69.

I thought the same think. The first sectarian murders were committed by the UVF in 1966 and the first bombing by followers of Ian Paisley called the Ulster Protestant Volunteers in 1969. They hoped the bombings of water treatment plants and power stations would be blamed on the IRA but it became clear it was the Protestants when one was arrested and another was killed by accident by his own bomb.

@Volgan16666 That statement is wildly misleading. Firstly, the IRA did not select their targets solely based on religion - there are many British soldiers who would have been catholic. The Sutton Inndex states that hundreds of Republicans victims were the result of collateral damage - the unintended victims of bomb blasts etc. That will explain high numbers of catholic victims. Loyalists however selected their targets purely based on religion. Loyalists killed more loyalists than IRA men.

America (Hart-Celler), church harbored them coming in, and Liberation Theology was used to incite against "Anglos" (american protestants). One of my neighbors was killed.
