My advice is, keep it stock, invest some money in exhaust system, injection system, fill up with premium gas, and use full synthetic oil. Do'nt fiddle with aftermarket filters and CAI, just use original stock filter.

And even worse than using CAI is using aftermarket panels, those are engine killers. It will not do damage right away, but eventually will.

Those things give you NO HP at all, in some cases they even reduce power slightly. And whilst giving you no power what so ever, those filters let through microscopic particles of dust alot more than stock filters. It has been prooven, I'm not making this up.

It does give you a great sound and a bit faster gas response, specially on lower RPM's (if done corectly, as seen here, the filter has to go all the way down to the headlamp, not at the front of the gril.

Gains? It gives a DECREASE in performance.  At least it slows all the boy racers down. Noise doesn't equal power. On a rolling road I guarantee the car will be faster with the original air filter and housing. You get more torque and BHP with the original stuff due to the design. The K&N does not filter anywhere near as well as the huge surface area of a paper element. It's to get the boy racers to buy products. It doesn't sound too bad for a diesel car anyway.

And I think you're thinking of short ram intakes. Those usually lead to a decrease in HP since they suck up hot air. Cold air intakes usually give a 3-5 HP gain due to sucking in denser cold air, and having a larger diameter free-flowing pipe. I know my car sure gained from the cold air intake I installed.

@urbex2007 There's some debate over the performance gains to be had by K&N filters. I myself wasn't sure for some time, and went between the standard enclosed unit to the K&N multiple times before settling with the K&N. For a start, throttle response is greatly improved; low down tug is slightly improved, and the car has a broader power spectrum. The gains are near enough negligible, especially when you factor cost in, but as you say, that sound is not one you'll want to get rid of.
