It's still sad. After this long it's still sad. The forces of nature are most powerful. Homes, Cars, pictures and I'm sure many valuable prized possessions and people were thrown around like trash. In a situation such as this was though everyone was devestated, I'm sure the homeless and poor people were the least burdoned with trying to find what's theirs. to qualify the Gulf oil disaster as either natural or man made is to belittle it. It IS a disaster, period and pure and simple. The final extent of this will take decades to confirm and happen. The volume of oil that has been let loose in the Gulf will affect the ENTIRE Gulf and Caribbean areas.

Actually we did not. New Orleans was not ground zero for this hurricane. It was the Mississippi Gulf Coast. You cannot predict hurricanes until the last second and as Katrina did, jogged west at the last min. So you cannot predict a hurricanes path until its almost right on top of you. Know your facts before commenting.

Im not excusing anyone. Biloxi Gulfport, and all of Hancock county were the ground zero of the hurricane. It takes a lot longer than 4 days to evacuate a city. The hurricane jogged West at the very last min about 36 hours before it made landfall. The original projected path was directly at Bioxi and pu NOLA on the Good Side. The only reason the Mississippi Gulf Coast looks so much better is becasue we have gotten off our asses and helped ourselves instead of waiting for a govt handout.

After the storm, you see pics of school buses, just sitting there, in water, when they COULD have been used to evacuate people who didn't have transportation to somewhere they'd be SAFE. Even though you were directly hit by the hurricane, the hurricane was not the biggest damaging force that hit New Orleans. Lakes and rives that were held back by the levees drained into districts were these levees broken. Also the power in the city was off. After that, most citizen had been removed from the city, so there was no one to clean up in the aftermath.

It is 5 years now and I still remember that day in August when New Orleans disappeared under the floods.
I am asking people to pray for the people and the pets of Katrina and for those survivors still trying to get their lives on track.
I left in 2008 with my dog due to Katrina and Gustav I needed a new start with my life.
I will spend the next few days remembering all that was lost and greatful for all that I have.
TY to everyone for your help during Katrina it will never be forgotten.

I met a dog named Sammy found in the debris of his home and his human family was gone.
He was lucky for there is a great and kind woman who fostered him and loved him and kept him.
Sammy reminded us of how many pets and people perished due to Katrina.
It is 5 year later I am greatful to have survived Katrina and I am greatful that I was never seperated from my dog Rex during Katrina.
That was the true scope of the disaster the loss of everything a person holds dear is the greatest loss.

It's still sad. After this long it's still sad. The forces of nature are most powerful. Homes, Cars, pictures and I'm sure many valuable prized possessions and people were thrown around like trash. In a situation such as this was though everyone was devestated, I'm sure the homeless and poor people were the least burdoned with trying to find what's theirs. I try not to covet or hold anything away because a hurricane could rip from my hands in more ways than one.

Actually we did not. New Orleans was not ground zero for this hurricane. It was the Mississippi Gulf Coast. You cannot predict hurricanes until the last second and as Katrina did, jogged west at the last min. So you cannot predict a hurricanes path until its almost right on top of you. Im not excusing anyone. Biloxi Gulfport, and all of Hancock county were the ground zero of the hurricane. It takes a lot longer than 4 days to evacuate a city. The hurricane jogged West at the very last min about 36 hours before it made landfall. The original projected path was directly at Bioxi and pu NOLA on the Good Side. The only reason the Mississippi Gulf Coast looks so much better is becasue we have gotten off our asses and helped ourselves instead of waiting for a govt handout.

@captaincomp64 Your flooding was not up to 20ty feet so how can you say that? Even though you were directly hit by the hurricane, the hurricane was not the biggest damaging force that hit New Orleans. Lakes and rives that were held back by the levees drained into districts were these levees broken. Also the power in the city was off. After that, most citizen had been removed from the city, so there was no one to clean up in the aftermath.

when i left on sunday morning , i had enough money to last me until friday. i found a job on thursday.i have been in florida ever since.losing everything to katrina bothered me, but not as much as the lung cacer that took my wife two years later. i miss new orleans and would love to go back..... as a tourist. i think about the city everyday, but it will not be the same new orleans that i grew up in . and that is sad. It's funny how all those people of New Orleans did nothing but blame everyone but themselves! They were warned over and over to leave the city and they had plenty of notice! If there is a horrible hurricane coming common sense tells you "hmm, maybe I should leave". DUH! Quit blaming FEMA and George Bush! They are NOT the ones who caused the Hurricane! You had a choice of whether or not to leave and those that stayed have to suffer the consequences of their own foolish actions!

After Katrina hit,my friend and I left S.C. to go help his hometown.Wal-Mart had trucks entering b4 our Govt. even considered...Bags of bodies,people in complete limbo of what was happening....animals feeding off humans...I wept like a baby at what I had seen.This tragedy has forever stained me,I felt I was in a warzone of Gods complete vengence! I don't know whose stats are wrong. But we were told that they brought 25,000 body bags to New Orleans and they just had the bodies in this big building, like a warehouse. And that didn't cut it. I don't know whose is correct. I live not to far from New Orleans in Louisiana and used to live in New Orleans!

The government has failed the people of New Orleans leaving the poor sick and old stranded in a flooding city.
Ray Ray put his family and himself on a plane and evacuated leaving everyone else behind.
The murders continue and the people suffer now with a city government who does not spend money to improve their quality of life.
Those who could have left Louisiana and will never come back.
