@knutselsmurf18 I've got the 22 watt version of this amp and it's great. There have been a few problems with some of the amps but most of the people that whine about the problems haven't had a tube amp before. My advice is to try it before you buy it and get it from a shop rather than online, so you know it works etc.
This amp will do basically anything, it's a good choice :)
@RichieVallejos If I were you I would get one of these. I have the new HRD and have had it for 2 month, it is a killer amp for clean tones, it really is, but if you want the overdrive to be good U have to stick a 12AT7 in V1. Now this amp has a good burn channel as well, and I am looking at this vid and already thinking about trading my hrd up for one of these, I maybe should be happy with what I have got, as clean tones are perfect, and record really well, and it was £300 less than the super
Hey man, I know this is an old demo. But do you think the combo version has enough bottom end for a tele player or should I go with the closed back version?
Do you find the vibro/bassman clean switch limiting in real time -- I find myself tweeking the bass/treble to get the sweet spot. Too muddy or razor blade funk sound otherwise.
I bought this amp used for $650. For a celestion vintage speaker and versatility it is a deal used, but new $1400, I would start thinking about a mesa express 5:50 to get the class A 5W mode. Of course, if you want Fender clean, this is it. I wish it had more of a deluxe reverb sound on clean. The vibrolux front end is the same as deluxe reverb, but I you cannot get that deluxe verb thing. Also, at 60W, can't crank it up like a 22W deluxe.
Great, short, efficient demo! I wish more people were as conscious of this as you. It gave me a great overview of the amp - exactly what I wanted to hear - in a really short time.
I sold my Supersonic. The vintage channel was WAY too loud, and the burn channel didn't have nearly enough bottom end with a strat or tele. It's a 2 channel amp, but you won't be able to switch channels without getting drastically different tones and EQs, so in that sense, it's not a very versatile 2 channel amp.
also, the clean Vibrolux/Bassman channels do NOT cascade into the burn channel as he seems to be suggesting. They're bypassed completely. This amp had poor reviews on its original release, probably from trad Fender amp users mostly, but in actual fact the equalisation on both clean and burn channels give you plenty flexibility and with a fair amount of tweaking you can get the sounds you want from this great amp.
Super Sonic 60W combo owner for about 2 years now. This is one loud & hairy unruly amp which i didn't like at first but grew to love. Without the patch cable on the effects loop it's unusable at small room levels. Even then you can barely play it above 4. But it looks a beauty & the Vibrolux and Bassman channels are classic fender, probably sounds even better with an additional speaker cab. The newer smaller output versions might be more versatile
This is a great amp but it could sound a lot better with another speaker. An Electro Voice EVM12L or an Eminence Swamp Thang would make it sound nicer again.
It's a cool amp I think I'll get one for the burn channel / Vibrolux versatility. Unfortunately it sounds like the Bassman channel is nothing but a cheapy treble cut switch that muddies up the sound a little. A Bassman sounds thick and raunchy, not like a muddied up clean channel.
You can also put a patch cable from the FX loop send and return, and when you activate the FX through the foot pedal, it gives you a volume boost, thats only if you aren't using the FX loop, gives you a good volume boost for solos and such
@Kreason95 Yeah that is a cheap squire that I put some noiseless tele pickups in. Should have worn the logo proud but my buddy sanded it off before he sold it to me.
Actually this is more like 4 amps in one as you neglected to mention the balanced FX loop. This allows you to to punch in from footswitch as a simple boost or yet another sound altogether. The Bassman is the non-tweed '66 Bassman by the way.
This is so 'under the radar' from the Fender Catelogue. 7 tubes, spring reverb and classic styling!
Yea man, I have and never even heard about them until I sat down and played it. Bought it the next day lol. But i got it for $979 instead of $1300 :) Brand new I might add!
Banned myself before but not a perma, still under a warning though. Yeah a Fender amp with a Tele is really amazing, still getting used to that nice warm smooth tone.
I am lucky to have gotten one for $650...including an '09 USA Ash Tele and 3 pedals. Seriously. I had no money but managed it...no it's not hot, the guy needed money in a hurry and I live in the Caribbean where there was no buyers. I don't know what I did to deserve that deal but many thanks to him.
Dude, I own one of these, you are totally wrong about the burn channel and switching between the vibro and bassman on it, you can only do this on the clean channel. Thats why the option is on the Clean EQ side....
not really metal, but bluez and jazz this amp excels my buddy has this, if you want metal try a peavey 6505. there isn't really an amp that does everything, unless you get some crazy 2000 amp.
i dunno.. i mean i have a peavey 5150II. and i played one of these at the music store.... that being said, id use it for metal. im not a tone freak but damn. this amp screams
@swiftlessons Mesa boogie undependable? how do you mean sir and which amps are you talking about? I have a dual rect an express 5 50 and a transatlantic. the former two have been running for almost 5 years with out a problem.
@MrJackanthony lol the guy asked him which amp had the best distortion channel and he told him to get the supersonic and proceeded to diss mesa boogie haha what bs
@swiftlessons: I've owned and played Mesa amps since they came out and I've never had an "undependable" Mesa amp. I have had several "undependable" Fender amps. Can you say "Super Twin"?
@joakorush2112 combo....i was down at guitar center and he said a good combo would be a peavey tube amp then when i want to get loud he said hook it up to some speakers
@ExTRemeGuItaRGoD1 Peavey Valveking are insane(combos&stacks) , but i would choose this combo. If i would choose a head, maybe Marshall jcm800, Blackstar heads, Jet city, take a look to them.
Got One had it for around 2 years, its been fine and sounds Great, even sounds good at low Vol but this is a very loud amp & i havn`t been able to crank it much at home, it deserves a better home like on stage, but i won`t be selling it. I`m suprised more people don`t use them, maybe it`s the price, but valve amps are worth paying for, it makes my line 6 jam sound a bit crappy, but it`s good for all the other stuff. Go to your local store & try one out i think it`s as good as it gets..!
i know this is a week old but i own a band master. I bought the deluxe VM and swapped it for the head. the combo sounds very weak unless you are go through a cabinet, and if your going through a cab why not use the head?
and it does no difference what ckean channle youre in when you switch to the burn channel, it bypasses the clean completely, i think theres a mistake in here
Shogun maybe you should do a little research before you start throwing smart arse insults around. Its designed to react like a bassman, and although the bassman is a clean channel amp, it starts to break up a little and distort when cranked. what im trying to ask, is if this amp does that too or if it stays clean when its cranked. and i dunno why you feel such a need to throw in your two cents when you obviously dont have a clue what your on about, its like you just wanna be noticed or some shit
In my experience with this amp, I have noticed that it has a lot of head room, it does not break up easily. On the bassman channel, Im sure you could adjust the eq to get the desired crunch but its definitly not like my fender deluxe, which breaks up on any note lower than a G# (E STRING)
The Vibro/Bassman option affects the dirty channel slightly, as it still switches the signal, giving it some tonal variance. There was a comment left below that explained how this happens, see if you can find the one I mean.
hey man great demo of the amp! one question though, can this amp play clean loud or does it begin to distort? i saw a review showing how the bassman breaks up a little but im trying to find something that doesnt
Thanks! I actually have a Supersonic and like it quite a bit (though mine tends to break down a lot). Was considering using a Deville to drive ad additional 4x12 cab. I don't use the burn channel these days (which is sorta the big draw of that amp), been using a boosted Les Lius for OD. Need something high volume that won't break up much, so I might wind up tracking down an old '70s Ampeg head or something or other instead. Again, thanks.
Question re: volume--how does it stack up to the 60W Deville? Both are the same wattage, but that doesn't seem to always translate 1:1, y'know? Is there much difference volume-wise?
I didn't have a Deville but I had a HotRod Delux just before I got my SuperSonic. Not enough difference in output to notice. I've used this amp unmiked at outdoor venues with the volume set anywhere between 3-5 depending on who's on the drums, lol. I would mic it if I needed more than that any ways, with any amp.
I've exactly the same Idea about my Twin Amp because I wonder how to crank bassman tones at low volume with the Supersonic. I wonder if I shouldn't keep the Twin Amp and buy a Bassman Boss pedal ?
me too, i just got rid of my 73 twin it was no longer worth repairing . I loved it but this supersonic soundsed do nice in GC im uncertain as what to get. I dont like that it only has 1 input and the knobs feel very plastic toy like but the sound i think was ritcher than the twin...what do u think
Personally I think it's the most versatile Fender amp to date, that doesn't sacrifice anything tone wise. It will surely get the most out of what ever guitar is plugged into it, and the true effects loop gives you alot of added control and options tonally.
hey, i was wondering if u ever play this amp with a gibson humbucker type guitar. I hav an SG and was wondering if it would get a decent bluesy sound out of this amp
I have the combo, only one speaker, Huh can`t be that loud ? , The first time i turned it up all my furniture moved to one corner of the house, I had to go to hospital.......Only joking, It`s a Great amp but Very Loud.
Wish i couild get the tones on low volume without using an attenuator....?
The mesa sounds great, but you have to be able to trust your gear... the Fender SS is a great amp that you can rely on gig after gig. Id pick my supersonic any day.
i have had two supersonics, and a lonestar special.. the SS's are great.. but there is no comparison to the LSS in terms of quality.. LSS hands down in all areas
dude...played one of things things at gc about a month ago and we were getting in trouble for playing on 1...when i called back the next day to ask if i could bring my guitar in to check out how it would sound the guy was like, "Not if you're gonna play loud as shit like yesterday...this is a business and we need to be able to hear." no joke...this thing is seriously LOUD AS SHIT.
Hey everyone, sorry for the mix up. In the few times Ive played this amp It seemed as though the burn channel could work in unison with the tone options (bassman, vibe). Its still a great amp even if you cant, best thing to do is pick up an ibanez tube screamer pedal so that you can have both.
I've had this amp for about 5 years now and I love it...the most under rated amp on the market today....

I've used this amp unmiked at outdoor venues with the volume set anywhere between 3-5 depending on who's on the drums, lol. I would mic it if I needed more than that any ways, with any amp.

This has such the stereotypical Fender tone. I'd love to have one of these

played this same amp at gc a week ago. fell n luv! thinkn of sellin my twin reverb to get one. u think that would b a good move or not?

I've exactly the same Idea about my Twin Amp because I wonder how to crank bassman tones at low volume with the Supersonic. I wonder if I shouldn't keep the Twin Amp and buy a Bassman Boss pedal ?

my boss fdr1 is amazing so i would recommend it

me too, i just got rid of my 73 twin it was no longer worth repairing . I loved it but this supersonic soundsed do nice in GC im uncertain as what to get. I dont like that it only has 1 input and the knobs feel very plastic toy like but the sound i think was ritcher than the twin...what do u think
glennrunnerroad 2 years ago

Hi, do you prefer the supersonic to the lonestar special?...which do you fnd best for gigging?
docsnugs 3 years ago
The mesa sounds great, but you have to be able to trust your gear... the Fender SS is a great amp that you can rely on gig after gig. Id pick my supersonic any day.

I am thinking about saving up for will the clean sound good with pedals I use a digitech

My band has one of each - an LSS and a Fender SS. I prefer my guitarist's Fender SS.

i have had two supersonics, and a lonestar special.. the SS's are great.. but there is no comparison to the LSS in terms of quality.. LSS hands down in all areas

okay... i really like the tone of this amp.. but honestly.. is 1X12 speaker enough for the 60 watts?
like.. could i play a gig and be heard of the drums and bass without micing the amp?
gbluez 3 years ago
I gig with this amp at least once a week, I never mic it up and I can easily push through the mix. Trust me, this amp has a lot of power
swiftlessons 3 years ago
yea i own this amp too and this thing will crank...really loud...great great tone too

dude...played one of things things at gc about a month ago and we were getting in trouble for playing on 1...when i called back the next day to ask if i could bring my guitar in to check out how it would sound the guy was like, "Not if you're gonna play loud as shit like yesterday...this is a business and we need to be able to hear." no joke...this thing is seriously LOUD AS SHIT.

Hey everyone, sorry for the mix up. In the few times Ive played this amp It seemed as though the burn channel could work in unison with the tone options (bassman, vibe). Its still a great amp even if you cant, best thing to do is pick up an ibanez tube screamer pedal so that you can have both.
swiftlessons 3 years ago
swiftlessons, you are right. switching to bassman results in a high-cut, because C3 goes to ground. good ear.
tragictravisty 2 years ago
check the schematics man..clicking and unclicking the vintage channel while the "burn" channel is on has NO effect on the tone of the burn channel
blueslover22 3 years ago
check the schematic again blueslover. C3.
tragictravisty 2 years ago
agree with blueslover...the vibrolux/bassman doesn affect the burn channel....
jamchele 3 years ago
Nice playing and demo.

This video is good, what colors does this amp come in?
chilipeppers200 3 years ago
that blonde and black
insaneguitaristt 3 years ago 2
The "burn" channel is a completely different channel, the bassman/vibrolux voices don't change the sound of the burn at all
blueslover22 3 years ago
great amp- i played one today - ilike
i would have bought it if it would have had tube Tremolo
like my evil twin
other than that , i Really dug the sound
