"Poor Sonny" had it coming because he was an unhinged, loose cannon! You can't succeed as don and be going after Carlo with a garbage can! Cool, brainy Michael showed the opposite personality which made him a perfect fit as the new don. Unfortunately, he could've been "Senator Corleone, Governor Corleone" as his father wanted, until he's drawn over to the "dark side." The saddest moment may be when Michael becomes Godfather and the door closes on Kay as "Godfather" ends.

Its annoying how some ppl only get into it cuz its cool but the brilliance behind this movie always leaves me in stunned.. ive watched this movie a gazzilion times..(since i was 7.. my dad was a huge fan.)
I love how he seems to play the part so simply, and yet so much emotion just comes pouring through in a believable way. We know exactly how Don Corleone is feeling, and in a way, we can relate, because we loved Sonny too.

17 dislikes, interesting. Marlon without doubt is one of the best screen actors ever. People try to mimic him like in the Waterfront "I could have been a contender - One-way Ticket to Palookaville" or Street Car named Desire with " Stellllllaaaaa" and so many from Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
It's the difference between creating a character or using the same one in every film like so many do. Great ones do that like Daniel Day-Lewis, Kevin Spacey, Johnny Depp and others.
@MrHoolits Agreed. One of the problems I have with actors like Clint Eastwood or Jack Nicholson is that no matter what film they're in, they seem to have the same persona. You know what you'll get, most of the time. However, the actors you've mentioned, and the likes of De Niro, Pacino, Bale, they become the role they play and you don't feel like you're watching the actor so much, whereas with Nicholson etc you're aware you're watching Nicholson playing a role

I love how he seems to play the part so simply, and yet so much emotion just comes pouring through in a believable way. We know exactly how Don Corleone is feeling, and in a way, we can relate, because we loved Sonny too.
Truly, Brando and DeNiro are the heavyweights of cinema.

@TheLivirus Incredible movie, one of the best of all times and Brando was a superb actor. Between him, Pacino, DiNiro, Newman, it just doesn't get any better. Nowdays we have Crowe, DiCaprio, Depp, Damon and more that are super talented, but Brando was in a class of his own.

17 dislikes, interesting. Marlon without doubt is one of the best screen actors ever. People try to mimic him like in the Waterfront "I could have been a contender - One-way Ticket to Palookaville" or Street Car named Desire with " Stellllllaaaaa" and so many from Godfather and Apocalypse Now.
It's the difference between creating a character or using the same one in every film like so many do. Great ones do that like Daniel Day-Lewis, Kevin Spacey, Johnny Depp and others.

@MrHoolits Agreed. One of the problems I have with actors like Clint Eastwood or Jack Nicholson is that no matter what film they're in, they seem to have the same persona. You know what you'll get, most of the time. However, the actors you've mentioned, and the likes of De Niro, Pacino, Bale, they become the role they play and you don't feel like you're watching the actor so much, whereas with Nicholson etc you're aware you're watching Nicholson playing a role
