  • Blue Velvet should have won!

  • Who was that guy with a moustache??

  • how come Woody Allen never appears at the award ceremony

  • @95Godfather hes off having a wank

  • @95Godfather hes in my bed

  • David Lynch seems like such a sweet man. Weird man sure, but there's a sweetness about him. He seems like a gracious loser too.

  • This is some major bullshit. David Lynch should've won.

  • @pontusgardinger No he shouldn't have... you obviously have no idea how important the film was for our country all of us that were affected by the Vietnam conflict... you should educate yourself.

  • Apparently we didn't learn our lesson CoughIRAQcough!!!

  • Thumbs up if you watched this clip for Elizabeth Taylor

  • @carligo nope. I watched it for David Lynch. He's way cooler and more interesting than Elizabeth Taylor.

  • did you know that Oliver Stone wrote Scarface? This guy is one great director.

  • @calista529

lol, poor spelling (its speech, not speach) HA

  • can some1 blow this planet up we dont deserve physical life humans are a mistake

  • "...it should never ever happen again." It happened, Oliver. They called it Iraq.

  • Platoon deserved an Oscar for best picture, but David Lynch should have won it for best director

  • @acblueeagle Um... my uncle served with Stone in Vietnam and said the film was very representative of his experiences there... I'm sorry that it wasn't representative of your experiences there. Thank you for your great sacrifice, much love and respect to you.

  • Why is Berenger so greasy?

  • @Kloverkill he has alot of oil in his skin

  • Platoon and Full Metal Jacket are awesome....I'm sorry but while Hamburger Hill may be more realistic, the acting in it SUCKED and there were so many more things I could say were bad about that film. Individually ... Apocalypse Now, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, The Deer Hunter, and Born on the Fourth of July >>>>Hamburger Hill all day every day.

  • Yeah, well, it did happen again - Beirut, Somalia, Bosnia, Persian Gulf, Iraq, now Afghanistan. Lesson was forgotten.

  • this is a guy who knows what the fuck he's doing, he fought for his country

  • @TheGatorfan93 You have been posting this stupid comment all over the internet. You are one of those irredeemable vulgarians- turned-couch-potatoes who cannot make the difference between their left foot and their right arm. Platoon is a great war film.

  • @TheGatorfan93 INEPT.

  • @TheGatorfan93

Yeah, because neither FMJ or Hamburger Hill had dialougue we could say was 'cheesy'. "You are here......because you farted" (Hamburger Hill). "Murphy this is cowboy, over (Because we always use our last names (and nicknames) on the net). You're welcome to your opinion, but pointing out a few lines from a movie is digging, especially when the other two you mention were full oft he same.

  • Now that's how you do an acceptance speech, a little message in the beginning, what the movie meant to you and yours and then your thank-yous. Don't rant on and on and on. Show 'em how it's done Stone!

  • @elitestar Platoon's more serious.

  • @TheAkimboAtlas I mean 'more' serious.

  • platoon rules

  • God, Elizabeth looked exquisite in this Nolan Miler gown.

  • wow 3 of my favorite directors nominated

  • Elizabeth Taylor never looked more radiant! May she rest in eternal peace...

  • such a good film, i just got back from hiking in Vietnam, looking at all the old battlefields and helping our in villages etc. such a great experience.

  • Love how they thought that other guy was Oliver stone.

  • tom berengers mrs is hot

  • Seriously, its almost as if americans dont value life too much, lives of the people whose countries they invade for no reason (Vietnaam, iraq, and yes now also Afghanistan), lives of their own soldiers who are pitted against an enemy that has done nothing to them make thier own soldiers murderers....American Politicians need to be shown platoon, and Apocalypse now over and over and over again, till they get this simple idea into their heads ....That WAR IS HELL

  • Holy shit, what a list of nominees. Wow. I love four of the films here. I must say, I have not seem A Room With A View. But the other nominees, wow. Fucking great year...love those four I have seen. Platoon, Hannah and her Sisters, Blue Velvet, The Mission...some of my favorites. It's years like these why I still give some importance to an award like the oscars.

Sure there are tons of great movies, known and unknown, each year that don't get recognized, but years like this one help validation.

  • woody allen looked pissed he wasnt happy at all just look at em

  • Platoon is perhaps the best ever movie made about the Vietnam War!

  • my god thats Elizabeth Taylor i thought it was nichelle nichols for a second.

  • "...and if it does happen, those american boys died over there for nothing." WHOOPS! LOOKS LIKE WE FUCKED UP HUH?

  • Elizabeth Taylor being at the Oscars makes the star power go up 150%.

  • haha, I was thinking "Wow, Oliver Stone sure looks different", then the cameraman realised his mistake.

  • Unfortunately, The US learned nothing from Vietnam! Prophetic words.....

  • IRAQ....America can never learn that war is hell....and will never stop wagin one stupid unprovoked war after another killing millions of innocent civilians in that country, and robbing thousands of its own young soldiers of their lives and their humanity...god bless america.

  • Hey guys, the 'best' is purely subjective, so I'm not sure why you're fighting...

  • Jeden z najlepszych filmów jakie widziałem. Oliver Stone stworzył wspaniałe arcydzieło w niezwykły sposób opowiadające o piekle wojny, podczas której nie ma zwycięzców. Zasłużona nagroda. Świetny film i świetny reżyser.

  • @Psifonian2 David Lynch was nothing in 1986 compared to Oliver Stone oh and if you also dont agree with Platoon winning Best Picture then again you dont know what a good movie is

  • oliver is a 'nam' vet. and remembers what every soldier's physical and emotional suffering his going through in vietnam...one of my fav.war film.

  • That is a young Tom Berenger let me tell ya.

  • Platoon is my favorite war movie ever made. AMAZING cast, great acting, great director. It had everything.

  • Well deserved Oscar for a big-time director. Oliver Stone not only captured the reality of the Vietnam War with Platoon, he also showed us a no-nonsense, in your face truth to what really happened, to why this is the sort of tragedy that should never happene ever again. More and more, we all should support those who fight for our country and our way of life, because the rest of us are living the life we live due to their sacrifice for us.

  • @easye115 you got thumbs up for it but you contradicted yourself...

  • it happened again with iraq and afghanistan

  • We've learned nothing from Vietnam, except that we continue to "make war" and make money on it.....

  • Don't you think Willem Dafoe should've got also have got an oscar for his part as Elias? Come on guys.. think about it.

  • @RobGoth100 No, the Mission was Fiction, Vietnam really Happened.

  • thank god stone won. a film that's actually about something, unlike blue velvet...

  • @inrwizards hey hey hey, movie making is about art lets not forget that...all directors are making ART. do not discredit lynch for he makes wonderful art just like the rest of the nominees.

  • @jpxxx oh dude. even if u dont agree, which is fine cause im oposed to quite a few things he believes in as well, that is no reason to not watch his films. i cant even begin o say how fucked up that is, its like if ure a straight guy and u dont listen to queen cuz freddy mercury was gay, its just stupid. stones a great artist.

  • @jpxxx But all those guys still have a lot of support in their countries, all of them got elected by the people(except fidel),usa has no right to talk about democracy to latin america, usa supported pinochet, somoza, trujillo, etc, all of them 100000000 times worst than chavez or morales

  • The Greatest filmmaker ever! Nobody comes close to Oliver Stone.

  • @tedm1975

    please

  • 1986 was a good year for film, I would have probably given it to David Lynch. The man directed the hell out of Blue Velvet but Stone was also a deserving choice. Woody would have been one too.

  • @Tigerlily21 Yeah. Listening to these nominees once again; I'd forgotten.

  • You'll notice no one clapped when Oliver said" The boys died for nothing". They should have;I did because he was,and still is,right.

  • lol 1:29

  • You know, I don't agree with a lot of Stone's political views, and I don't bash our country for the Vietnam war, but I've never seen Platoon as being anti war or anti American. It's just a really great war film that captures very faithfully the tragic experiences of those who fought in Vietnam.

  • @jcomd America bashing? How so because it portrayed a wawr accuratley and showed the shit American military men were put through for some bullshit cause? Get real you conservative moron. (I can tell by your channel's recent activity that you bash liberals.) You are probably one of the pussies who sits at home and cries abotu how we should be at war with certain nations yet never signs up.

  • @EyesOfTheSouthSTi great reply....11 months later, it never gets old!

  • Oliver Stone is a person who made an incredible influence on my life trough his movies...

  • Oliver Stone was an infantryman in Vietnam, Platoon was loosely based on his experiences.

  • Love the way beautiful Liz Taylor says the winner's name: "Oliver Stone!". Puts her heart in that shout!

  • "Platoon" was the first part of what turned out to be a dense trilogy. Oliver Stone never repeated himself. True artist and great story teller.

  • He deserved it!

  • @TheGatorfan93 thats your opinion....FMJ has great moments, but the acting in my opinion was better in platoon. by the way you seem to be full of shit.

  • Pls don't defend the devil! Wall St's greed is true ! Vietnam war's horror is true ! JKF's complex conspiracy is true ! Damn !!!

  • Platoon is one of the best war movie ever made if not the best. Oscar well deserved. Gret director, great film.

  • @TheWilliamBurroughs it's a good film but not a masterpiece like apocalypse now

  • @stanleyKubrik11 "Apocalypse Now" does NOT portray what was really going on in Vietnam during the war.

  • Oliver Stone stated..... "If it DOES happen again, then America learned nothing from Vietnam". Listen closely Freeskier475 before drawing conclusions.

  • Oliver stated ...."if it DOES happen again, then America will have learned nothing from Vietnam. Listen closely Freeskier475before forming conclusions.

  • Comment removed

  • @Freeskier475 dumbass he is saying if same thing as Vietnam war happens AGAIN then American has learned nothing GET IT?

  • Comment removed

  • No he is saying that if another Vietnam would happen, then that would mean America learned nothing.

  • @Freeskier475 They learned nothing because America did the same shit again in Iraq.

  • @CelestialWoodway

Iraq? who was the Vietnamese equivalent to Saddam Hussein? again my ass

  • @vinmass123 Whether or not there was a distinct leader that the United States wanted to oust in Vietnam is not the issue. The issue is that the United States invaded, and occupied a country for basically no reason. What was the reason for Iraq again? 9/11? No, that wasn't it. WMD's? Nope, that wasn't it. Uhh, removing Saddam? Nope that can't be it because he was removed in 2003 and American troops are still there. So why are troops in Iraq?

  • @Freeskier475

    IRAQ

  • "it should never ever happen again"

    "the americans died for nothing"

  • 0:40, the director is saying: "hey, wait a minute that's not oliver stone! move the camera, asshole! move it, move it now!!"

  • How did it not win for best score

  • charlie sheen should have won the oscar

  • just three years later it happened again with the first gulf war in iraq

  • This film is an incredible, raw account of a human tragic event. It evokes such sadness when human beings especially on the same side, are pitted against each other. Fellow man vs Fellow man. Oliver's award is rightly deserved.

  • @hivernales he is a strange man and it confuses me that he got nominated a few times for his strange directions.

  • A well-deserved oscar for a great film director and a great movie. PLATOON renders what was really going on in Vietnam. The folly of war.

  • oliver stone great director platoon jfk nixon natural born killers

  • Yeah it seems like it was pointless war and for what and why?

Powerful storytelling of brutality and the human side that made me understand at the end of the movie. Brilliant most rightfully dissevered the Oscars it picked up

  • 1:55 , BARNES!!!!

  • WTF are you doing? You aint the firing squad you piece of sh!t

  • Met Stone recently. Great guy and cares deeply about his films so far after the box office...

  • yes. it has happened again, because america never did learn from that war.

  • One of the Best movies of all time, certainly the best Vietnam movie.

Look at the nice boobies on an older milfed out Liz.

  • the deer hunter is my fave vietnam film but platoon is my #2 'nam film. i'm glad oliver won for this one, too bad the movies he made since were really not that good, but that's just my opinion

  • Sgt. Barnes is so tanned.
