I got into a car accident while listening to this song and I think it saved my life because I was so relaxed when it happened I didn't tense up or anything, I just let the car do it's thing and I came out unscathed.....
I love how 1. I adore this song because it is amazing..well the whole album is.. and 2. My real name is Bryan xD I got a bit freaked when I heard this the first time and though it was about me
This song has all the riff from Pink Floyd's "Happiest days of our lives" and even the laugh, not that it's something wrong with that, on the contrary, Porcupine Tree must admire and respect Pink Floyd very much. Like the rest of us and the music world.
@lacrahuntington actually in some interview (found it on wikipedia) Porcupine Tree said they regret sounding like Pink floyd in their earlier albums and wish they hadn't done it. Not out of disrespect, they love PF, but because they wish they wouldn't be labeled as being the new Pink Floyd. Just sayin' I agree with you though. I love both, i just learned that today and decided to share :P
My brother dropped acid in the middle of BFE Oregon... At night in the forest... He got lost in the forest and said the only way he got through the night is that he laid down on the forest floor, popped in his iPod and put this on... He fell asleep like a baby and woke up six hours later four miles from camp... Porcupine Tree saved my brothers life...
sugar cubes fuck the shit up..... its all about dat liq.... or paper if you dont know homeboy.... and not too many ppl do.... i guess im just a lucky fucker.
The way I've always interpreted it is that Pink Floyd is often associated with drug use, and I'm guessing a relatively large number of PF fans have gotten high while listening to them. So it only makes sense to use a riff reminiscent of one PF's most popular songs in a song dealing with drugs. I don't see why anyone cares, classical composers openly borrowed from each other's compositions all the time.
One of the many reasons one should be admiring PF is for inspiring such magnificent bands as Porcupine Tree! BTW they were absolutely fantastic last night in Athens!
@Eliasoz Actually... PT started out as a joke, an experiment pastiching psychedelic music and the like, before transforming into its own thing. and this particular riff is not stolen from PF (although the resemblance is apparent), but inspired by Ashra Tempel's/Manuel Göttsching's 'Inventions for Electric Guitar'.
@Capuano231 i agree, Pink Floyd is my favourite band. Porcupine Tree is good (not as good as Pink Floyd). However, this "phase" of voyage 34 has a repetitive riff stolen (almost exactly the same) as Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in The Wall (Part 1)". Listen to it and you'll hear the similarity.
@Blink182plus44equ226 never said whoever didnt see that is an idiot listen to another brick in the wall part 1. The riff used in this song is almost (if not exactly) the same Pink Floyd riff.
@TheLore I know which bit you mean.. I think it is sampled from Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (the section "Pictures") yep.. Jackson on massive echo machine. Cheers The Lore, it was driving me up the wall working out what it was from..

It doesn't matter if it sounds like Pink Floyd.
It's done good instead of all other rip-offs.

The Pink Floyd-ish guitar bit was probably subconsciously picked up by Steven Wilson, still it's pretty amazing where he took it.

the song contains stolen female vocals from ,,As the bell rings'' of Dead Can Dance. Plus the guitar sounds like stolen from David gilmour. bad.
