I remember I was 14. I watched the game on monegasque-italian based TV Telemontecarlo. No luck at all for Canaries: english team were banned from euro competitions a couple of months later, due to the Heysel tragedy.
I have the official attendance of 101,000 in one of my SAFC annuals and i was there and our end was packed (standing) so there must have been forged tickets.
@kenwyne67 Football was better back then, when players could actually contact without getting sent off! I hate the way football is going in the modern game. I like the skills and talent but hate the theatrics and over protection. They get paid ridiculous amounts and that has made them think they should be treated like royalty. Bring back the old days I say.
This should be used as a Government Health Warning about the dangers of Inbreeding and Incest in small Norfolk communities. Fuckin Retards d whole lot of you. Champions of fuck all.
I lived in the truly fine city of Norwich for five years in the 80s and one of the highlights was that trip to Wembley. As well as the NCFC win it is the fantastic atmosphere and sporting behaviour of both sets of fans that I remember. Fans mingled freely and Sunderland fans were an absolute credit, chanting for Norwich after the final whistle. This was immediately reciprocated by Norwich fans at the opposite end. All in the same year as Heysel...
@Vlkwolf Serious respect for Norwich City both in 1985 and at the Semi Final in 1992. On both cup runs we came accross some good fans but none of them could live with you guys. I hope your boys come back up soon, the Premier League needs you.
Ive still got a hat and a massive flag from this game. I was 5 years old when we won this. I still support them through and through now. Nice video, thanks. OTBC!
You can only hear the Sunderland fans, the best atmosphere was when we got relegated in 1991 against Man City and we took 15,000 down. There was a video on here, i wish i went because my brother did and he said it was unreal.
This has always been dubbed "The Freindly Final," yet Sunderland fans booed the cup going up? Doesn't sound very freindly to me, but then it was the 80s, so it's all releative I guess! 25 years tomorrow, happy days (I was 5 so don't remember it).
I remember it well! I was actually there! I was just 14 years old and because of Sunderland missing a penalty, I never heard the end of it at school, particularly from my classmate who supported Norwich City! Grrr!!
Ahh...what a day!! Behind the goal with my fellow Canaries. The stupidest handball EVER from Dennis Van Wyk & Mick Channon's ever-present smile. ON THE BALL CITY!!!
Looked for this for ages- thanks.I was in Sunderland end - the ground was actually bouncing under foot! About 70,000 Sunderland there, the rest Norwich. Great day! Apart from result - best part? Gary Rowell bringing the cup around for Norwich - he really wanted it to be Sunderlands!
38912 norwich fans ,official that day minus one who died in a car crash on the way down and minus one who lost his head literaly by sticking his head out of a train window on the way back.5200 neutrals=,capaciy that day 96502 = Sunderland fans, most crying,52000.
Rubbish. that's how many Norwich were allocated and they sold no where near that amount. They were then allocated to Sunderland. Sunderland Had half of the Norwich end. Was most visible from the tunnel end.
Happy days-remember it well, it was also the last game at Wembley to have an official crowd of 100'000. capacity was slightly cut for the next major game there (FA Cup Final, Man Utd-Everton, 98'500!) and it never made the 100'000 mark again-and source, the FA, before anyone argues!
Anyone remember the Red Devils parachutist crashing into the roof before kick off?
Thanks for uploading that video mate, I really enjoyed it. What a day it was, can't say I was old enough to be there but my old man was there and he often talks about how amazing the atmosphere was in wembley that day. Can't beat it!

Norwich receive 64,000 pounds prize money for winning the cup. Ah, those were the days when football had some sense of perspective.

The best atmosphere was the 1985 milk cup final, it was deafening when the players came out, i should know i was there! 101,000 gate.

I'm glad they have brought back the original trophy and got rid of this stupid looking subbuteo style one!

Both sides were relegated, but at least Norwich had this victory to bask in. Chris Woods once again a hero in a League Cup Final.
Nice to see John Deehan, Asa Hartford and Mick Channon picking up winners medals.

No we were allocated the same as Sunderland, and then gave you some back. Hence.... why you had 14000 more, like the man said.
