another idea for the handheld transmitter is to retrofit a RC controller that has a wheel on it(like a Preston) . Probably find one at the Goodwill for under $5.Did you not mount a bigger gear on the servo because you needed more than 180 degrees? Nice project, thanks for the info.

any updates? I am working on something similar but not using the servo motor. They are a bit loud as you pointed out.
