  • AT 2:17... how cute, Jack kisses Meg. I will ALWAYS love them....

  • from desire

  • When he says "country song", I'm fairly sure he's referring to Hotel Yorba that was played before this.

  • Gayest cover ever :/

  • since when is Bob Dylan folk? "Everybody knows I'm not a folk singer." ....

  • @UsssOSMART Yeah, he wasn't then. But was before.

  • jack white is sick dylan was just as sick

  • He was talking about the previous song to this - hotel yorba.

  • Jack White has soul, baby! Bob lent it to him.

  • Comment removed

  • Good goddamn.

  • It's not about who's better..their two different versions of the song...you cant compare them both..

soo shut the fuck up and listen two some great music.

  • Comment removed

  • this is one more example of why no one should try and cover dylan. he cant even sing this song, it's an easy song. his voice doesnt suit the song.

thus concludes the worst cover since the white stripes covered "love sick".

  • Tell that to Axl Rose haha.

  • i dont know who that is?

  • @ingateman love sick is a really good cover dude, you gotta stop being so closeminded about music.

  • @NoGeLinMyHair17 im not close minded about music man, i love a bit of everything, im into everything from gorillaz to blind lemon jefferson, and i know people will tell me its a matter of opinion but i just dont dig jack white, think hes well over rated and has got nothing on dylan

  • Dylans version is way superior!! I want the violens and his trademark harmonica.

  • It's just a live cover haha.

  • Comment removed

  • this song is hardly country

  • @MrYeldoom

It's the editing of the track--he's referring to "Hotel Yorba" played right before "Isis."

  • What a shock that this comment comes from a frustrated, bitter musician who does his own crappy dylan covers.

  • Thank you, so then we're in agreement !

  • yeah, if you also think that you're bitter and frustrated and that your dylan covers are crappy, then we're in agreement.

  • Comment removed

  • OK, obviously I struck a nerve by taking a pot shot at your hero. There's no bitterness or frustration involved. Only the simple fact that this cover in my opionion is crappy. Actually crappy ain't the word, absolute butchery is. When YOU play a tune and post it, let me know so I can give you my honest opinion..... Peace!

  • what was wrong with your original comeback? oh right. it was nonsensical. what do you make of the fact that bob dylan respects jack white as a musician and song writer and that they have collaborated?

  • Nothing, it was direct and to the point. Nonsensical only to you. I make nothing of it. Dylan, just as I or you have opionions on things, that doesn't mean they're right or wrong. What looks large from a distance close up ain't never that big. Thats probably nonsensical to you too.

  • CHRIST that is so damn good!

  • shut up idiot. Do you know how much of a fuckwit, asshole you are?

  • WTF...how could you think Jack White wrote this?

Bob Dylan is White's idol....He does millions of Dylan covers.

  • I might watch it if I were a robot.

  • since when is bob dylan country? folk.

  • Comment removed

  • @ryanachronism jolene was probably what they'de just finished playing.

  • @ryanachronism Well done. :| fucking genius.

  • @ShotgunGeoffrey My comment no longer has context. The video used to be titled 'Now Day' by 'The White Stripes'. The uploader has since changed the title. Case closed.

  • Dylan was folk, then rock, then back to folk, then to country, then back to rock, then back to folk, then some rock, and then gospel, and you have to throw bluesman in there.

    Dylan really transcends all labels.

  • i know he did that, btu i wouldn't consider isis country

  • plus he never really went fully country i dont think, because his lyrics weren't country

  • @walkerorr he did a few country songs. anything from john wesley harding to self portrait was county

  • i know he did some semi country songs but isis is not, and plus i don;t think he ever went full country

  • @walkerorr Bobby never liked being called a folk or country singer, he was just a contemporary songwriter, and if you look at his earlier stuff, he was just playing traditional song, not nessissarily folk or country, he just did what he wanted

  • @walkerorr He was talking about the previous song (Hotel Yorba). This was taken from a John Peel session at Maida Vale for BBC radio 1. I remember hearing this broadcast live, as it was the first time the UK heard the White Stripes. I grabbed a cassette tape and recorded it off the radio. Still got it somewhere.......

  • @LordRassy Sorry....recorded at the forum.

  • @walkerorr yes, and this album, desire, is quite gipsy xD. well, bob dylan is everything actually

  • @walkerorr he was talking about the previous son he had sung

  • @walkerorr since when is bob dylan folk? .....

  • @LuanTEP ha dylan IS folk dude

  • @NoGeLinMyHair17 No he's not. Actually.

  • @walkerorr he talking about hotel yorba

  • @walkerorr Consider Nashville Skyline, Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid and John Wesley Harding.

  • @walkerorr

Bob Dylan is whatever Bob Dylan wants to be... listen to Nashville Skyline brudda, it's as country as country gets.

  • @walkerorr Bob Dylan had a time when he did play country music. Nashville Skyline etc. Also, Bob Dylan is not a folk musician. I'm a very big Dylan fan. I'm not ragging on him, but I study ethnomusicology and one of the first things you learn is that 'folk' music is traditional music that has been adopted by a culture and is learnt by word of mouth. The songs should be old and the composers identity should not be important. Therefore none of Dylan's songs are folk songs. Folk ins't a genre.

  • @oOJimmySueOo except for his version of House of the Rising Sun:-)

  • @oOJimmySueOo Finally someone who knows wtf they're talking about.

  • @oOJimmySueOo He's done quite a few folk songs. Black Jack Davey for example. As for the country song they were refering to, could be Jolene, could very well be Rated X

  • @andyscoot43 he sure has. He used to only play folk songs. I have his original Gaslight tapes from when he was very young doing folk songs in New York. I also have tapes he recorded in Minneapolis before moving to New York. His first album was almost entirely traditional folk songs. But after that period, it is silly to call him a folk singer, because he simply wasn't playing folk songs.

  • @walkerorr

Dylan wasn't, isn't, and has never been folk, country, or rock n' roll. Dylan has just always been Dylan. But a few of his albums have very strong country undertones. nashville skyline is a complete country record...

  • @walkerorr Christmas in the heart. Desire. Down in the groove. Dylan. Empire burlesque. Good as i been to you. Infidels. John wesley harding. Knocked out loaded. Love and theft. Modern times. Nashville skyline. New morning. Oh mercy. Pat garret & billy the kid. Planet waves. Saved. Self portrait. Shot of love. Slow trian coming. Streat legal. Must i go on? Bob Dylan was only 'folk' or about 5 years. Maximum. K?

  • @walkerorr he was country in nashville skyline

  • Sweet...

  • I like this, I would have to say it's not AS good as the original (I wonder if any Bob Dylan cover could be as wonderful as the original), but still wonderful nonetheless. They put a nice twist on Bob Dylan songs.

  • all along the watchtower?

  • kurt's songs were more about the sound and lyrics he kinda just picked up a guitar and still got a great sound. but who cares nirvana, white stripes and Dylan its all great music to enjoy

  • Yes I, I guess that's true...

  • Kurt would've been just another frontman of a mainstream band had he not blew his brains out. His lyrics were decent but every 8 year old in america can play his songs. It's rediculous that he gets cred for starting the "grunge" era...Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell were around in the 80's and they don't get any credit for the mediocre music that came outta the early to mid 90's. Jack White is doing something original and possesses a great amount of talent. Kurt was original but had no talent.

  • dumbest thing ever said on youtube

  • Tell ´em, dude! You´re so damn right, but most people can´t see. Kurt´s dead, that means, he was too good? I don´t think so.

  • everyone who knows basic chords can play any bob dylan song. pretty bad call on your part

  • Comment removed

  • it´s true that many of his songs do not contain any difficult chords (which is why many are so popular among musicians) but bobby has refined his guitarwork very much (not to say he started out badly) and in the last couple of years has taken to much more complicated chord-structures and chords. of course it is possible to play a bunch of songs with just G, D and C major but there is definitley much more to dylans guitarwork.

  • Kurt Cobain was voted pretty high on RS list of top 100 guitar players. Bob Dylan wasn't. Also, Bob Dylan plays piano and 6-string chords on guitar. Kurt just played 3-string power chords, most of which people that have never even played guitar can play.

  • so the value of one's artistic expression -- their particular method of using an instrument (see: tool) -- can be judged via mathematical comparison against other artists? That's just stupid. I live and breathe Bob Dylan, love him infinitely more than Kurt Cobain, but he hasn't ever publicly shown himself to be any BETTER at the guitar than Kurt, and he certainly isn't any more original (guitar-wise). Bob is great because of the power of his songwriting, not because of any technical prowess.

  • wonderfully put.

  • kurts music is amazing but hes not jesus at guitar

  • actually if were talking religion hes in hell

  • hell doesn't exist...

  • why not?

  • I shouldn't be forced to prove why it doesn't exist. The burden of proof is on somebody else to give any good reason or evidence why it would exist.

  • cus i killed the devil.

  • Stop going on about Jesus you losers.

    I love the White Stripes.

I like this cover of the song :)

  • Jesus' body is dead. Christ consciousness has been and always will be.

  • Thought it'd be better.

  • Dylan is just about the ONLY music I listen to anymore. Everything from the first album through 'Tell Tale...'

In my humble opinion, this version of "Isis" is FANTASTIC!

Well done! And again WELL DONE!

  • wtf?

  • jesus loves the white stipes

  • jesus is dead, how could he know the white stripes?hes before there time, hes just a profit with no magical powers.

  • oh hes magic alright, haven't you seen him do the finger trick.

  • kurt loves the white stripes hes my jesus

  • kurt cobain?

  • yah hes up in heaven now and i bet he likes the stripes

  • yeah hes cooler than jesus if he does.

  • he alredy is no mater what jimi is god kurt is jesus and jack is moses haha i'd start going to church

  • That is so cool.

I think I like your version of the Bible better ;)

  • thanks :)

  • oO pfffffffffff

  • dont be so lame

  • what video is at 1:08?

  • is the white stripes at early days,

  • Good stuff!

  • okay i cant tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but he covers a bunch of dylan songs, i like them all, and he does have another band...

  • the white stripes & raconteurs!!!

because you like dylan more doesnt make you a critic..

    ignorant kid

  • nah, dylan's studio version still rules supreme

  • Think dylans roling thunder version is much better - but then again everyone has their style and this is done in the white stripes style

  • He's trying to sing this like Dylan does. It doesn't work for him. Check out him on Shine a Light with Mick Jagger, it's really good.

  • better get the 14 candles of wax out of your ears, pull your head out of your ahole, and recognize this guy will be looked at with the likes of hendrix, page, richards, cash, lennon,.. He is iconic and a 1 man show and arguably the best guitar player alive right now, in his prime... Raise your hand if you understand!

  • /raisehand

  • No, I don't think he's the best guitarist alive right now.

  • Then you can leave this video with a dildo. That way if you don't want to leave, you can still fuck yourself!

  • amen, amen, and AMEN!

  • @embalm Well Page is still alive. ;)

The rest I agree with completely.

  • baa

  • Jack White. One of the best musicians in years.

  • raised, well said ..... oh isis oh isis you're a mystical child!!

  • omg he totally does :P

  • Stunning and beautiful!

  • Gallager- too quickly and with too much energy, huh?? I think you need to hear the live Rolling Thunder Revue versions. Check the Bootleg Series Vol. 5. About as rockin' as it gets. I think you'll probably retract your statement and give a new look toward rock 'n roll interpretation.

  • I LOVE that version!!! Actually, I like the way every song is done on that album more than the originals. Love Minus Zero, Sara, Just like a woman, and of coarse, Isis!!! My band covers One More Cup. I just found out that the Strips did(Our is way different though. We're rockabilly/country, and the song is done fast). I wanted to do Isis in the spirit of rolling thunder, but after hearing this, I can't.

  • bob hits the notes, he has a brilliant voice. if he didn't hit the notes how can people cover the song and sing the same notes?

  • whats the video at the begining?

  • It's the music video of a song called 'You Don't Know What Love Is(You Just Do As You're Told)' by the White Stripes

  • cool thanks

  • He sings it too quickly and with too much enegy. Though I think their cove rof One More Cup Of Coffee is near perfect. One of the best covers I've ever heard.

  • I always think Jack has too much feeling, and he always gets all vibrato... It's annoying. I love The White Stripes but Jack White's singing pisses me off about half the time.

  • you piss the world off all of the time.

  • nobody can touch bob.........

but i dont mind this at all.

  • why do people argue about music there is two types of music.

    good music & shit music.

  • because everyone thinks that's different

  • we argue becouse some people think "good music" is something that folowes scales and is highly polished, and they think anything "raw" or "expiremental is crap.. and there are people vice versa.

I personaly don't bilieve there is such a thing as "bad music"

  • why do people argue about music there is two types of music.

    good music & shit music.

  • I expected that Jack made a nice cover and... I'm confirmed in my belief, that Dylan is the king and nobody can play his music better than him.

P.S. - Meg White seems to doesn't know how to play the drums.

  • Dylan communicates his songs extremely well. He has the ability to carry a 14 minute epic like Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands and still keep you interested. He may not be a Tony Bennett but I bet not too many vocalists can impose the kind of urgency and poise that Dylan can and still make every word he sings count.

  • You're totally right!

  • what he sings match with how he sings. I think that

  • huh?

  • Dylan sounds great to me. each to his own

  • Jack pays homage-love him for it!!

  • the new rebel plays the original rebel.. love it!

  • according to a guitar magazine, jack and bob are pretty good friends now.

  • Please! What a pile of ungracious slander. We believe that you all are fans but that gives you no right. I need a shower.

  • No right? I wish I could say I think anyone can cover Bob Dylan if they like, but I left some stinging comments on some Rod Stewart videos just the other day... I'd be a hypocrite.

But Bob and Jack White love each other, if anyone has the right its The White Stripes. They play great blues and rock, and Jack has soul in his voice.

  • children go home

  • the white stripes love Dylan's desire album

  • butchered

  • You're an idiot. Jack delivers Dylan's words between the chops. While you howl the word "butchered" Dylan is telling people he wants to record with White.

P.S. Loretta Lynn thinks your an idiot too.

  • your an idiot

  • Dude Dylan is our modern prophet.

  • what song is he playing in the clip showed at around 57 seconds?? it goes for a while...awsum song!! well done jack and meg!!!

  • It's a slide song...

So possibly 'Let's Build A Home'

It looks pretty early, so might not even be on an album.

  • Oh you're the one to ask SATAN

  • at 57 seconds jacks playing Stop Breaking Down Blues by Robert Johnson.

  • never EVER say thta

he is amazing he could do a fifty cent song and make it work

    johns hott 2 =] <3

  • i love the white stripes and bob dylan, but this cover is horrid i think, but its still cool to hear.

  • Decent, not as good as the Love Sick cover though

  • Jack White does some of the best Dylan covers ever.

  • Have you ever heard James T. Kirk reel out Mr. Tambourine man? I think not!

  • Oh man, totally forgot about the slinky and versatile song stylings of Mr. Kirk. Not only does he do Dylan, but his wicked Beatles riff on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is prime.
