@rockangel7777 hey, if you still wanna know who was Frances Farmer, go to IMDB.com and write her name in the frame. She was a tragic figure, this lady Frances, sort of like Kurt himself...
It was known before his murder that Kurt was leaving Nirvana, and he talked about being over the screaming thing and wanted to go a different direction. can you say Motive for murder? he owned all the publishing rights and was fed up with what Nirvana had become, yuppies in BMW's fuckin label people- slime- it says alot about the world we live in when everyone knows there is motive and foul play involved yet nothing has happened.
i value their 3 piece days to the fullest extent but i think Pat Smear and 4 piece-ness was an evolution that brought good things...Maybe Nirvana would have become a band through which lots of different performers would be invited to be temporary members and creative contributers...In unplugged the meat Puppets were members of Nirvana...Dave Grohl's good work in the past 15 years has seemed to reinforce how great Nirvana was, is and ever will be Amen!
I disagree...I think Smear added rather than detracted from their sound. Plus, in many Nirvana songs performed live, two lead guitars were needed to replicate the double parts Kurt played in the studio recordings. Kurt is gone, but Nirvana will live FOREVER!
Smears guitar work was fine. His vocals on the other hand for most parts were very bad for their sound. They would have been better off having Kurt and Dave do all the vocals. Pat could have been fine for dual guitars thought.
Smear kinda took away from the fact that they were a Trio, i mean a Triangle is the strongest shape you know, plus he wasn't that grunge, he seemed to not have the vibe in the band
Nirvana concerts in 93-94 were the best in band history. I think Nirvana become better band when Pat came in,Kurt played his parts and it was better and easier for him. I agree that Pat wasn't so grungy and so on,but he was good guitar player. The point is,that Nirvana become unreal and legendary band after Pats entering. Sad that Kurt died..who knows what Nirvana would be now
i think that kurt was kind of quiting his life and his band when he allowed pat to come in. I think he didnt give a fuck anymore, thats why he put another guitar. It was less responsability for him.
no way! you can't play all Nirvana songs with just guitar bass and drums! for many songs you need another guitar- thats why he brought pat in... and pat was a good friend of kurts... and he was also one of the first punk rockers (guitarist from the Germs) he wasn't just some joe-schmo... and also while pat was playing live with them kurt was arguably the happiest he'd ever been... its not like kurt just chose pat randomly
Dave is such an intense drummer, and he doesn't even use a double bass pedal. Hes so quick on the bass pedal. Thats why i consider him a great drummer.
i miss the confort in being sad...

also important to realize Kurt chose Pat- end of story- and I agree the last couple years the concerts were amazing-

Yea this is a good one, but i think "dumb" is written just as good or better.
biglebowskir 3 years ago
I always considered this the best lyric of any Nirvana song. It hit his unease with success and the whole Seattle as the "it" city right on the head.
"I miss the comfort in being sad" is the most powerful line he probably ever wrote.
