what does it matter? i mean, if i were to get a truck, it would be 4X4, because if i didnt want a four wheel drive, id buy a car. i think its kinda pointless.
This is such a lie! At 0:17 he says that each truck is configured exactly the same with the most efficient engine. That is a lie! Go to ford.com and see this video in the truck section. In the subscript you see Ford has the 4.6 Liter V-8 and the Dodge has the 5.7 Liter V-8. Well, THAT is not exactly the SAME is it?! Dodge also has a 4.7 Liter V-8 now why didn't they use that truck? Something is pretty fishy with this whole video.
The only reason Ford hasn't sunk yet is because the F-150. You would think that after years of ford fuel economy research, ford would have stepped up there game by now, but it has a chance to evolve with hybrid age/electric cars about to strike next year
2 months from now toyota will have out a smaller version of the 5.7 called the 4.6. it too will have dual independent VVT-i. also will have ACIS and a 6spd. trans with shift logic and 4.10 gears towing around 9000lbs and will get the same or better fuel economy than their pathetic attempts at chasing their poor designs to make fuel economy. its really sad that the toyota 5.7 puts out less emissions than a cobalt or focus. the hemi uses 2 spark plugs to meet minimum epa requirements!! wow how sad
oh and heres why. toyota's engine has dual independent variable valve timing. so that means the intake and exhaust cams timing is seperate of each other making the best efficiency all of the time. it even changes the way it breathes with acis or accoustic controlled induction system meaning it can take a deep breath or short quick breath. 4 valves per cylinder, and a throttle that thinks and shift logic 6 spd trans that thinks. study up cause ford, chevy and dodge are about 5 or 10 years behind
ok so here it is. dodge, 4.10 rear with a hemi, chevy with the 6.0 or 6.2 with 4.10's. the ford with their big worthless 5.4 with their tow package with 4.10's and the tundra just the way they just tested it. the 5.7 with 4.30 gears. after all thats the truck everyone wants right?? the baddest they make. now test it, it wont even be close the tundra would embarrass them all
the ford has a special engine called the 3 valve 4.6 because they normally give you a 2 valve piece of junk. then put a 3.15 gear in it and call it an xfe. and who cares if chevy's piece of junk xfe gets better. neither one will tow 5000 pounds!!! who buys this??? its less than 5 percent of the build pattern. lol they should compare real world trucks, i.e. the ones they actually build. it is pathetic that ford and chevy still make these false video clips. shame on you mike rowe for playing along
i dont like this comparison. i think its not accurate at all. i would have the same driver with teh same driving habits drive every truck around a track or city with real like stops. thats the only wasy that i would buy such a video
This test is stupid. The trucks had diffrent drivers in them. Everyone drives diffrently. The trucks behind the lead truck had less wind drag. I'm not saying that the ford doesnt have the best gas milage. But this isnt a good test.
where is the fuel return line? ya know... to to release the excess pressure from the fuel rail. every fuel injected vehicle has one,
funny how the order of the other 3 trucks that failed changed on the second test, driving habits is in important variable in a mileage test
lol they call this a test
this test should have been on an eddy current type dyno with each trucks wind drag coefficient equivelent placed on the dyno for resistance going the same speed for all the trucks
You are correct, the different manufacturers do not all make engines with the exact same displacement. So this test used each manufacturers most fuel effecient V8.
I just bought an 09' F150, the Gas Milage is VERY Good.. It suprised me .. I had around 398miles just at half a tank of gas. DON'T QUOTE ME! but it's better than i expected... I think the Milage depends on what type of fuel you use.. with .25 tank left my trip Gauge read 497miles. The truck is Awesome,
Doesn't matter who designs the course, if you're advertising these things you have to have solid science and signed affidavits. Which Ford had. It was an apples to apples comparison. Impressive.
they said most fuel efficient V8, so i'm guessing the 5.3 as chevy advertises. EPA fuel economy is always off. some engines turn out better than others even if its the same maker. just the way it goes

mmmmm.......... sponsored by ford of course.
One gallon of fuel is not even enough to get the fuel pump in the tank wet. I've seen this propoganda before in the form of a Ford dealership video. It compared the (at the time) 351 ford versus the 360 Dodge, and 350 gm. Sure enough, the 351 was way better on fuel than the 360 and 350.
As if. Anyone who has ever owned a 351 knows that you have to own an oil company to afford to keep fuel into one of these pigs.
keep in mind that the gallon of gas is outside where visible. That should mean the gas lines and pump are filled + the gallon in the glass jar. basically the only variable would be driving style.
i had a 351 in my 4x4 96 f-150 and it got 16+ mpg. I thought that was fairly good for the year and displacment.

well obviously the ford won the gas mileage war cause its got the weakest engine in this test built for mpg.

Liter =/= Engine size or weight or fuel efficiency.

This video is certainly contradictory to the EPA fuel economy. My question is what engine did they use in the Silverado?
