  • OH GOD THE MEMORIES!!!

  • you didn't mention the fact that combat had to be played wit 2 players. you cant play it by yourself.

  • Mark n Dave, u guys need to come back n do more reviews of old school games. Cheers, brothas

  • do you need 2 controllers?

  • oh my god, im a nerd, but this was first aired 1/20/2000 !! that means it was Paul Stanleys birthday!!!!!!!

  • Wait mark was fat???

  • @xxwhit3y16xx beer

  • I thought TF2 was the ultimate game of combat+

  • look very sad he story..

  • If you're watching these old episodes and HAVE'NT got the DVD yet... do, it's friking hilarious and Mark does commentary over the entire thing =')

  • @IHeart16Bit yeah man, I just got mine and it's one of the best DVDs I have ordered this year. Mark's commentary throughout is excellent.

  • speaking about game systems, a group called Analog Interactive is cranking out an ALL WOOD (walnut) consolidated version of the Neo Geo MVS. I ordered one, and am willing to loan it to you after it comes in for a review of both SNK vs Capcom Chaos MVS, and the MVS system........of course you'd have to send it back though lol

  • Hey dick fucker what did u say about the ps2!?!?

  • @assfailure123 faggot gamer its impossible to fuck a dick shit head

  • I used to love this game. My father has passed on now, but seeing this game brings back fond memories of my dad and I playing this on the weekends. The eighties were such good times. I miss those days. The future will never be able to compare to the 80's regardless of how much technology advances. In every facet, the eighties were great from the music to the movies and the clothes too even though we didn't realize how ridiculous we looked!!!

  • A big black monolith should not be considered as "design"...

I admit i am a big Sony hater, but i also admit that i like the PSOne design, you know the revamped PS1. It just says video game all over it. But what came and keeps coming after it is the prime of ugliness.

  • I am looking for people to play Atari (& other retro games) with, online. PCAE emulator has Kaillera Netplay. Anybody interested, let me know.

  • and before the video, an ad for Intel .. does Intel *really* need ads??

  • Thats why cartridges are better than discs!!!!

  • I thought the narrator was in their 50s ~ amazin'

  • I've always wondered what mark looked like.

  • @Iteachu2beninja

There are more videos with him in them; this video is from 2000, I'd say it's a bit outdated ;-D

  • Mark you should do more genesis reviews

  • combat was fucking awesome.

  • Dear Mark,

The Atari 2600 can also be played in outer space, where there is no gravity at all. Something the PS2 can't do.

    Sincerely,

  • well today CGR is biggger than ever, which is great.

  • Hey, that looks like Triple Action on the Mattel Intellivision.

  • He said that the PS2 was the ugliest system ever developed, and now he's nowhere to be found on CGR? I think there's a connection!

  • the last time i played this was 2 days ago, i just got my 7800 that day!

  • My car has an oak finish. -_-

  • I hope Playstation 4 comes in wood grain. Kind of like the apple 1.

  • Damn, I miss the oak finish!

  • @rourin It was a 70's thing. I think people that had $ in the 80's, made it by investing in the 70's in wood grain futures, LOL. EVERYTHING was wood grain in the 70's! TV's, stereos (hey, WTF happened to "stereos" BTW???), appliances, houses (wood panel) hell, I had a pair of wood grained pants, LOL.

  • Tank Pong...reason enough to own an Atari 2600.

  • This one looks really good - when is it coming out?

  • Wow, I guess pre-ordering the PS2 was the right thing to do when you look back at it. Little kids got their PS2 ripped out of their ahnds, people sold them for up to 5x the retail price and so much more craziness.

  • @bean420man When I was 6yo, my father & I went to K-Mart to buy an Atari 2600. (previously we had an Atari "Video Pinball/Breakout" dedicated condole (no carts). I was literally the 1st kid in my school with an Atari. @ the time there was only like 2-3 games available ($50 each/$150+ current rate). We'd check stores weekly for new releases (that was FUN!). Once 3rd party games came out, there were too many to keep up. BTW, in 1977 that Atari cost $299 or, near $1,000 adjusted for inflation!

  • on a side note, this isn't afucking review. it's random conversations about anything other than the game for 95% of the video. and when they do talk about it, it's not even a fucking review. classic game room really is horrible. they're not informative at all.

and if they wanna be funny, be infoemative as well. x-play from 2005 and before stuck a nice balance between comedy in information in their reviews

  • when my dad came over to visit me today, he saw that I had an Atari 2600 and got really happy.

We played Combat for a good 2 hours until he left. need to get me some mor atari games. I only have 4 as of now. I also need an atari 7800.

  • @highwaysonyfan87 This is why i've kept every single PS2, Xbox, PC and 360 game i bought since i got into games 5 years ago. I'll keep everything, and take excellent care of the consoles. Did you play ET on the 2600, it was AWFUL!

  • you havent fallen yet

  • i think the tanks game on wii play is based on this and also my bird threw seed at me while i was watching this video

  • you guys are idiots. to start off with pong was the first video game NOT the tank game. and without atari there would be no video game machines at all. but most of all i would like to tell you that a nine year old boy invented all the atari games---- airhead. so get a life!!!!

  • HOLY SHIT, THERE'S A PLAYSTATION !2! NOW?!?!

  • im gonna say one thing MOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTAAAAAALLLLLLLL COOOOMABT

  • You know some... people commenting are... real... idiots

  • Fun Fact: Mario (yes, THAT Mario) is in this game. This is actually his very very VERY true first appearance in video game history. He actually controls the blue tank.

  • @devonjames10 Oh come on! Wasn't he "jumpman" from Donkey Kong?

  • @Tigerman1138 Yes, stupid head. But this is his very first appearance in video game history. Look it up, you'll find it.

  • @devonjames10 Show me. Point to evidence. I think you're full of shit.

  • @devonjames10 how can he show up in the game if he wasn't even a thought. Shigeru Myamoto was probably still in college back then. I agree with orionpax55 some people commenting are... real... idiots

  • I wanna see atari games being played on HD tvs, lol

  • 5:08 look at dave's eyes! they are freaking red! I wonder how much combat he's been playing!

  • the tanks look like y-wings w00t

  • I loved this game way back when.

  • the guy on the right sucks

  • this takes me right back

  • I love this game, it's simplicity is just beautiful, so is that wood grain!

  • You guys had me laughin with the wood grain reference lol I was like hell yeah..EVERYTHING had wood grain in it. Ahhh..memories are so beautiful! You young bucks just keep living. Imagine looking back when you'll laugh at the 360 one day and thinking damn..we use to actually play that piece of shit lol

  • I remember playing combat with my buddies for hours, the cartridge wouldn't leave my Atari for months. Sadly, my Atari is no longer with me, but this vid makes me want to pick one up again.

  • I still consider Combat to be the best Atari 2600 game of all time. :D It was the only game where my brother and I were equally matched. It's the only game in which I actually enjoyed the two-player.

That said, there's really not much to say about it, so I'm glad y'all didn't try and instead filled the "review" up with other funny, yet ultimately irrelevant, stuff. :P

  • Love the GITS:SAC shirt!

  • wow......i so remember all this......and i remember each game mode had a bunch of different options.....like 1 plane, 3 planes, etc

  • I love your show! It takes me back to the days of my younger years!

  • i played this game more than ive ever played a modern day game

  • I love my PS2 but it is a horrendous fucking eye-sore

  • Im so sick right now im going to take a nap i just wanted to say that beyy

  • I'm going to go pre-order a PS2!

  • @lschlachter1 a little late eh

  • I think you're really getting pro!

  • dave looks like a vampire :D

  • My sister and I used to play this game for hours when it was too dark outside to play or it was raining real bad. This and Maze Craze aka Cops and Robbers. Two of the most addictive games ever made. When she wanted to play with her dolls or watch tv, I would than play either Demon Attack or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Great memories. I just wish all kids only played games when it was too dark to play outside or they had bad weather. There would be fewer fat kids and gastric bypass procedures done.

  • is she hot

  • @GastroGreen You are a fucking idiot!!!

  • There wasn't much reviewing in this episode but still this was a great one :D

  • I had more fun playing these sorts of games than todays games. They are getting better looking but lacking gameplay.

  • I liked when I knocked my brothers tank through the screen and pinned him in a corner. It was beautful to was him scream.

  • nice and very funny

  • Hey, can you help me remember the game? It gameplay is very similar to Berzerk, but main hero looks like one from boulder dash and it also has more types of enemies

  • The Greatest Fighter to have Ever Lived 2.0 (Fedor / Фëдор)

  • MAN 2000, miss those days, GTA 3, beer, women, pizza, getting old sucks.

  • because nobody eats pizza drinks beer or talks to women anymore

  • one of the best 2 player games of all time! The variety of games it has on it! Fugg'n Awesome!!

  • Wow...I remembered the tanks but not the bi-plane and jets levels. Memories...

  • ?? But the PS2 has those same Atari ridges!

...even though they're in the wrong place...!

  • Fond memories of Combat. Bleep Beep Beep Beep. I grew up with this as one of my favs.

  • reminds me of the game on wii play TANKS

  • i like this video, but you should make a more moddern review of this.

  • Violence rules!

  • Did anyone ever play as the giant aircraft?

And how low was your score? XD

  • The VERY FIRST Atari 2600 game!

  • Nu uhh!

  • It was! It's model code is CX 2601!

  • LOL!!

Combat is what started video game violence. ;)

  • Combat is what started video games...

  • Some of my first and earliest memories are of my dad and I playing this game...

  • oh shit back in the olds times:P

  • I love Classic Game Room!

  • can the ataris only work on some tvs or all cause i have only plasmas in my house and im planning on trying to get 1

  • It will work, because it has to get in the cable input on your television. Just buy one!

  • Theres a pretty tricky hook up process involving a vcr and multiple different wires

Classic Game Room has a video on it

But if you have all the equiptment and do it correctly then the atari and othere retro consoles will work with your plasma screen

  • PS2 was 400 when it first came out? damn.....

  • If you have any bad game disks just tie them together and make a frisbee

  • in play theres a game called tanks and it's a rip off that game

  • You can actually get a wood grained faceplate for the Xbox 360, sadly no ridges, you'll have to stick with the 2600 or the PS2.

  • I actually liked Combat for some reason. It was the game that came with my Atari 2600. I don't have my Atari 2600 anymore - I gave it away in the mid 80's. Knowing what I know now I would have kept it.

  • What did the PS2 originally look like? I can't find any pictures on Google.

  • You can put a pencil on a 2600, but you can put a pint on top of a PS2.

Pint holding ablity > pencil holding ability.

  • so dave is indeed alive! lol I'm glad you guys are still in contact thats great to know :)

  • I miss Dave, he's cool :P

  • It's easy to talk about 25 years after. But Atari games were the father of your favorites games.

  • Combat was the shit as was Astroblast, Jr. Pacman & boxing.

  • I started out as an 80's child with an intellivision. Sure it had the scary multibutton controller but it was an overall better system. It wasn't till the NES that i ever actually enjoyed gaming for more then 5 min at a time.

  • combat is one of the best games ever.

  • dude you look like Nathan Fillion

  • Youre a fucking 10 year old. Quit claiming to be 34. First off, your profile says 28....no idea why someone would lie about being 28 when they state theyre 34 in a comment. No real benefit. 2nd off you talk as if you are a moody 8 year old.

The 2nd possibility is that you really are 20-30 something and youre mentality handicap. This would explain the child like reasoning and comments.

  • No. The best 8-bit system was the Commodore 64.

But anyway back to NES - I have a hard time thinking of an NES game that I would want to play again. Maybe Super Mario because it has that "adrenaline feel" of an arcade game, but that's about it. The rest of the games like FF1 and Zelda are dull and aged poorly (in my humble opinion).. I just can't stand their glacial pace.

I prefer the Atari games. Easy to learn, quick to play, but hard to master. Challenge yourself to get the highest score.

  • Nerd... really...

People.... god damn, I really can hate some of them.

  • You're a fucking idiot, and most likely a little kid. The Atari 2600 was amazing.

  • I had an Atari 2600 in 89, and it was fucking amazing. "Real Gaming" started with fucking Pong.

  • .... so uh, If Atari 2600 flops you think the industry just skips to the NES and Sega master system? VG industry is a business, companies see success, say "me too!" and use the latest tech and ideas to make something "better".

Has Back to the Future taught you nothing? respect the timeline.

  • Ok.

Atari was like 1977-1983 and nintendo from there on.

Atari was a great gaming system back at the day... So I have heard, how could I know. But anyway, You are the only one I have seen to disagree.

  • Just think if they hadn't invented the nintendo or sega, 5tonyvvvv, we would be playing this game today and maby to many kids wouldn't be sitting on their butts playing video games all day and going outside to play more often. Give the Atari some respect. Without it you wouldn't have the games you got today. I own an Atari and PS2 and I think they're both GREAT.

  • The Atari was CAPABLE of being an alright system, as demonstrated by games like Pitfall 2, but I think Atari was afraid if they made their games too good, then no one would go to the arcade. Therefore, ports of games like Asteroids were terrible.

If you want a great system from the same era, I'd recommend a Colecovision. That system did some near perfect arcade ports, and can be purchased fairly cheaply now.

  • How about intellivision. What's that like?

  • I never owned an Intellivision, so I can't say for sure. I do know that the graphics were somewhat better than the Atari, but still not as good as the Colecovision.

  • Colecolvision wasn't released until well after the atari.

  • That's true. Colecovision was released in 1982 while Atari was 1977. However, that are still considered the same era, and the Colecovision was a far better system.

  • Obviously, any system that comes out 5 years after another system is going to be more sophisticated. I guess the 70s and 80s are two different time periods in my book.

The Atari 2600 was cooler than Colecovision though. The jump from pong to Atari was much bigger than the jump from Atari to Colecovision.

  • If you want to be technical, the Odysee 1 was more revolutionary. You might argue that the original pong games like the Coleco Telstar were more revolutionary.

The Odyssey 2 came out in 1978 and featured much better games. The Atari had crappy half-assed arcade ports while the Odyssey featrured some orginal, decent games. The 2600 had some good games like Pitfall or Yars Revenge, but many were bad.

And in regards to your second comment, wikipedia considers coleco and atari in the same gen

  • @tombert256 Atari 5200 was released same time as colecovision. That's the 2 you compare them 2.

  • @BiffsGamingVideos Well, I could compare the Atari 2600 to the Astrocade or the Arcadia or the Fairchild Channel F if you want me to be more fair. Those systems were all more powerful than the Atari 2600.

  • Really 5tonyvvvv you suck. I mean you don't give the Atari the respect it deserves. I admit, the graphics aren't as good as ninetindo or sega but it still is to this day a good game to play on. When my boyfriend got his back and plugged it in we played on it for hours and laughed at how fun it was. I thought everyone should get this game. It looks like funiture for your home, the way all video games should look like. So yes ATARI RULES and your the one who sucks.

  • where's dave?

  • Hey someone just came out with game called iCombat for iPhone - same game play but updated with better graphics and weapons! Brings back the memories :D

  • oh my god!!!!!!! this was my 1st game whan i was 3 years old, hahaha i still remember that shit

  • IIIII LOOOVEEE Classic game room in 1999-2000 . :]

  • 8 years ago some people remember the show.

10 years ago, one of the most popular review shows on the internet.

  • I'm going to mod my PS3 and give it a wood finish.

  • Used to play Combat all the time back in the day, very fun!

  • You should still play it! :) Retro FTW!

  • I play it now that I use the 'Stella' Atrai 2600 emulator, it rocks! Highly recommended for anyone that likes this stuff.

  • Yea the Atrai 2600! lol

  • I like hearing about these guys and their gaming memories - makes me feel less retarded for having wasted my own youth on computer games.

  • Hey man its not a waste. Games are awesome.

  • Good ol' Combat, LOL! 40 games that we're pretty much the same, really, but hours of fun for us '70s kids. I remember the big red bomber vs. the 3 little white jets, and the tanks in the maze with ricocheting shots.

  • Arrgg the ricochet room! the blue tank could hit the green without ever leaving his spot. just turn about face to a 45 degree angle and doot doot doot, doot doot doot,du du du du BOOM

  • I found my atari 2600 a few days ago, among the games... 4 copies of combat.

  • i liked how the ps2 looked xbox was the ugly 1.

  • this was the greatest game for the longest time. loved it.

  • A copy of this game came with my atari 2600 when I went to pick it up, but sadly, the game does not work. :(

  • And the video is about... Combat.

  • The original Game Room reminds me of the old G4.

  • you lost some weight dude!

  • I just discovered these videos - awesome stuff.

  • Where is Dave???? WHERE IS HE?? BRING HIM TO ME.

  • The ps2 is awsome but lets be honest it LOOKS like shit.

  • It's the launch title for the Atari 2600...Its going to look like shit.

  • this game is over 30 years old. What do you expect. I smell a graphics whore...

  • thats cool that you kept the series alive and thank you for making such great vids =)
