Some birds are very protective of their humans. You should be happy your Conure (?) is looking out for you. One day it might save your rear :)
This is an extreme example but if an intruder came into your house and was harming you, your conure would probably fly in their face and give them something to remember!
My rainbow lori and cockatiels don't get along very well either. I think it's a size difference thing mostly. The tiels are really scared of him. It's kind of sad because he waddles over to them and makes the cutest noises, they just freak out and fly away. Poor Harley.
One of my black cap caiques attacked and killed my love bird last year on my birthday. They had perched together for 8 years and he had never showed aggression - since that time I've heard of Caiques killing other smaller birds. Mine were alone for 2 minutes and that is all it took. I've been upset ever since that it happened and shouldn't have.
My bird used to go outside with me and sit on my shoes, then when ants came buy he would bite their heads off to "protect" me as well as bite other people if they tried to pet him while he was on my shoulder! LOL
If you are really going to try to introduce them to each other and hope they eventually can tolerate/get along then you have to do it in a neutral zone. On top of ones cage is definitely not a neutral zone. My macaw, cockatoo and conure can't stand one another if in their own territories but in neutral territory (the couch) they seem to tolerate each other fine. Not that I'd ever leave them unsupervised either, not with those beaks...but yeah, on ones cage is bad mojo.
Cockatiels being the affectionate birds they are can get attached and claim humans as a mate. You've had him for a long time and now there's some new bird he's never seen before in his life that you're paying attention to. And also cockatiels don't get along with others that well that they weren't raised with, unless it's the opposite sex cockatiel lol. But yeah, he's just bitter towards you. And no I'm not kidding.
Birds aren't that weird when compared to humans. They all have different personalities, that people need to keep in mind when choosing birds as pets. Tiels are territorial and don't like change. They also aren't to keen on being touched, except for head scratches... Caiques on the other hand are curious birds and like to check things out. Not a great match, I hope they get along ok eventually.
stop tellin her what she already knows, she didnt do it so mochi would hurt echo she was just curious :P shes not stupid! (i hope) shes not gonna put her babies in danger
echo actually changed after i had some "reputable" family watch him for me during vacation long before i bought mochi. I dont know what happened, but he hasnt liked hands since then. (And he used to be so sweet!!!) But I still love him!
@vanillalace86 I know it's an old post, but your bird had a bad experience with the family. We had a bird who was very tame at first, but some little children came by our house and tormented the bird (not harm). Then he became VERY defensive towards people (lost trust) After MONTHS he finally regained trust in people, and now he's very friendly towards everyone except little kids lol. Birds take very badly to negativity and it can break relationships fast that take very long to build back.
Please be careful with Echo. Caiques are notorious for killing and seriously harming other bird species. I know of one lady who's Caique killed three lovebirds, and tore the bottom part of another's beak off.
I want a Caique as well, but I won't bring one into my house as long as I have my tiel.
yeah, i know birds get jealous and now they have nothing to do with one another after that. A friend of mine had her little love birds toes bitten off by a senegal so i wasnt even going to introduce them at first. But mochi climbed over to echos cage and they were being so cute through the cage! I was lucky. Now echos cage is high out of reach :)
I agree with Rebel, birds are weird but in a way they're like cats, they tend to hold a grudge and spite people they dont like and they'll stick to one person they've bonded to :3
birds are not weird you cant mix a caique bird with a cockatiels

He may be jealous of Mochi. If you got Mochi around the time Echo wasn't being too nice to you then you know why

You should take them out separately, away from each other where the other can't see.

This could have a very tragic ending. Your Caique could kill Echo in just a couple of seconds.
