Your right you need to train with guys that are going to help u get bigger but I train alone in my cellar and once a week I get together with my guys for max effort bench only the rest of the time I am training alone and have seen great gains because you max out every week every week and the reason we can keep up this volume is because of the conjugute method changing you max effort excercises every week and changing up the accessorie excercises every 3 weeks...

The people that have womething negative to say about westside need to start doing the westside routine and tell us how easy it is. I have been keeping a log since the beginning of the year in December 2010 I was barely benching 365 raw and deadlifting 600 raw now i am near 450 bench raw and 650 dead raw. I have done every routine known to man and this is the best out there...
the westside method is great, but it's tough to get the full gains and utilize it to the full potential unless you either train at westside, or you train in a group with the same mindset
Louie Simmons is the man. I am a NCAA thrower and I have trained to his method to a T since I discovered West Side Barbell. Strength gains are through the roof. I recommend this for any power lifter and thrower. Great stuff.

Louie has adapted Zatsiorski's approach to developing limit strength specifically for the bench press and - over many years - has developed a training approach with excellent results (and that's what counts).
I wonder why he hasn't adopted hypertrophy training, which is also a valid method for developing strength (and is mentioned in Zatsiorski's book) ?
So after a max effort day, and a speed day, one could do a hypertrophic day (say 3-5sets of 5-8 reps) - minicycle every 10 days.

Anyways, yeah go ahead and bench twice a week. You need to vary the weight and rep range you use. Go heavier one day a week and lighter the other day of the week. In the Conjugate Method you work up to a one rep max then the 2nd bench day you work with 50% and work for explosive speed. However your body may not be ready for that yet
I can't find information about this topic so i'm going to ask here... I had a lot of hard training to go up like 50 pounds on my squat. I made a big PR like one month ago too and i didn't max during this month or maybe more time and I did max effort bench on friday. @SteezyTre gaining more weight helps your bench go up. its not a beauty contest. its powerlifting. not all powerlifters are fat, infact most guys in the 242 and under classes are extremely ripped. genetics play a big part in it too
I just wondered if thats the width of grip they use in competition. it wasnt quite a narrow close grip bench but they do look closer than a standard grip
yeah. lots. less stress on the shoulders probably being the main. over time when you get to those weights you start feeling it in your shoulders. a lot of guys that use really wide grips usually wind up having shoulder repair surgery. the second reason is triceps. i read an article from a trainer at westside and he said that you have to have the perfect balance in your triceps and chest. i mean, i am by no means in those guys league benching 500 plus because i am so tall but i do bench over 300.
all these guys have short arms not no fair to us with big monkey arms lmao. but these are some tough guy for sure!!!!

@darlene9700 It changes depending on it's depth. It's probably 200 at the bottom but more like 80 or so at the top. It's called a dynamic variable.

@200EliteBlaster Not bad bro. But always seek to improve yourself, never get arrogant or let anyone tell you you're weak for that matter. You don't need validation. Anyways, yeah go ahead and bench twice a week. You need to vary the weight and rep range you use. Go heavier one day a week and lighter the other day of the week. In the Conjugate Method you work up to a one rep max then the 2nd bench day you work with 50% and work for explosive speed. However your body may not be ready for that yet

I can't find information about this topic so i'm going to ask here... I had a lot of hard training to go up like 50 pounds on my squat. I made a big PR like one month ago too and i didn't max during this month or maybe more time and I did max effort bench on friday. Strenght went down like 15 pounds =S and my squat got 20 pounds down too =/ what the fuck happened???? can someone answer me? please? i just don't know what happened =/

@SteezyTre gaining more weight helps your bench go up. its not a beauty contest. its powerlifting. not all powerlifters are fat, infact most guys in the 242 and under classes are extremely ripped. genetics play a big part in it too

tris tris tris. Hammering the triceps Vs the pecs. With bench shirts, most fail at the lock out. Top end strength is paramount in these situations.

yeah. lots. less stress on the shoulders probably being the main. over time when you get to those weights you start feeling it in your shoulders. a lot of guys that use really wide grips usually wind up having shoulder repair surgery. the second reason is triceps. i read an article from a trainer at westside and he said that you have to have the perfect balance in your triceps and chest. i mean, i am by no means in those guys league benching 500 plus because i am so tall but i do bench over 300.
