  • I love your system. I think it is awesome. At the same time, I still love my "collection of techniques" as well! I want both! :)

  • looks like a big waste of energy. And that gun deal is ridiculous. . Look at American Kenpo I have studied martial arts since I was 6 and I am now 43 years old. I use wht I knw in real life. I watched your video off the website and lots of things are being pulled that's not a way to practice real life situations. You need to Strike for real and a person needs to know where to strike to take the person down just not 5 of the same chop in the same place hoping that it will stop the attacker.

  • shoot him in the leg. how do u defend that.?

  • @lear786 You don't let him shoot you how about that. You attack before they can pull a trigger, and if they're not within striking range I'd try running. That's a pretty good defense against people with guns I find.

  • I wish to make 2 points:

    1. A pet peeve of mine is when people start there discussions and constantly refer to "we don't do what everyone else does", just show what you want and move on please. (And people get very offended when 1/5 of your video is "what you do is wrong, what we do is right" )

    2. I agree that having a system is a set of organized and linked techniques, BUT, I personally want to continue my knowledge past those 1-2 techniques. I don't want to know only 1 defense...

  • I want to learn as many things as I can, and attempt to understand and master as many things as I can.

In the short term, what you say is the perfect and logical solution. After studying fighting for say 10+ years, I want to be able to do more than a single 3 strike combo, and I want to have a greater understanding of as many things as I possibly can.

But I do enjoy your idea of keeping things simple, but again, for the short term, not the long term.

  • @tagg1080 There is only one term, what works and what doesn't. Under stress you need to train one set of body mechanics because that's all you will be able to recall. The other stuff is just fluff and is good for the ego but bad for reality. Learning multiple, complicated self defenses will only confuse you (Hick's law) and finite motor skills are not accessible in fight of flight (Grossman).

  • @tagg1080 Short term...long term???? What matters is if it works.

  • @tagg1080 First, using the term "Pet Peeve" and having male genitalia at the same time are impossible. That's just my...pet peeve.

Knowing many self defenses is great for the ego, but useless and detrimental in combat. If you watched the National Geographic's Brain Games, they do a great job of explaining how the mind can only do one thing at a time. Combine that with Hicks Law, which states that the more options you have the slower your reaction time you are SOL.

  • @angelajudochop How is it purely for ego ? I am curious.

If I wish to spend time learning 'complex' things that are not effective in combat, but give me a greater understanding of motion and combat as a whole, should I not learn them?

So as far as I can tell, you are saying to have a small set of techniques, and never learn anything else?

So if you are training for 20 years, then you still only do those 2-3 things?

I just would like to hope there is more to combat than just that.

  • @tagg1080 Who the hell am I to tell you what to do with your time? If it's a hobby, but when the rubber hits the road there are only a few things you will be capable of doing.

Listen, I spent years studying martial arts and I have enjoyed them all (for the most part) but when it comes to actual self defense, there can be only simple, gross motor movement techniques.

Look at old school traditional karate, Kyokushin is a great example of this. Handful of brutal techniques.

  • @angelajudochop Then I am just going to have to politely disagree and leave you with my belief that we can make anything effective if we put enough effort into it.

  • @tagg1080 No problem, but if that were true than everybody who worked really hard at something would be successful at some point, correct? What happens is that eventually you'll come to the same conclusions and observations. We'll see you then.

  • @tagg1080 Oh, I just saw your videos...that explains it.

  • Great stuff! K.I.S.S. that's the way to go with good self-defense
