  • If you made a 2cylinder version of this. Would it be self starting?

  • @moffett8

I don't think this would self start because you need one full cycle to get the hot air out of the displacer cylinder and into the power cylinder.

  • Hey. Video was fantastic. Do you have drawings or anything that i could make one myself back in scotland?

    Thanks

  • @keiren1990

Hello. I no longer have the drawings but I got the plans and materials kit from LittleMachineShop. If you search for that, you will probably find what you need. They have other kits there as well.

    John

  • do u sell them and if yes then how cheap can u make a simple one i have a small budget but i would like to try one adn u look talentet so u can make my first one :)

  • @coolmiqqxb

I'm sorry friend. I can't build anything like this for a reasonable price.

You can find this engine assembled at LittleMachineShop

  • ...John..what are you using for the little generator...a CD or floppy motor? did you machine up all the Stirling parts, and do the piston/s have a ring for sealing..? I've built a lot of stuff...but my forte has been I.C. engines, electrical, and welding, the Stirlings are something I'm still learning about, even though they're been around for a very long time. As for the non-believer..it does say Stirling, so to me that's...Heat...and I can see the small alcohol burner.

  • @dougspair

Close, the little generator is a DC tape drive. Yes, I machined all the parts. There is no rings on the pistons, that would be to much friction. There isn't a lot of power on these motors. The horizontal piston is a displacer and has about 1/32" clearance. Yes the heated air in the displacement cylinder is sent to the power piston to be cooled off and used again. There is no intake or exhaust. Movement comes from heating and cooling the air in the engine.

  • @dadHav ! You are one talented guy ! Do you have your own site? You have a lot to share and teach ! :)

  • @ozcabal

Hello, I'm glad you liked the video. The video channel is the only thing I have going on right now.

    Thanks

    John

  • great engine! can you tell me what motor you used as the generator, i'm working on a project requiring a similar motor. also, i have built stirling engines before myself

  • @cfeng19

Hello, The little generator is a DC motor from a disk or tape drive I don't remember. They all work though as long as they are permanent magnet. Remember these are really small. You would need a much bigger option for the motor in your video, Right?

    John

  • @DadHav

its surprising one of those motors would generate so much voltage at low rpms. i'm trying to measure work done by vibrations in an experiment, where the speed is near 2-3 rpm, i'll find a chance to upload one of my stirling engines, that engine in my channel is actually a gasoline engine with a prototype head using concentric valves.

  • @cfeng19

Yes, It would be nice to see one of your engines. It looks like you and your friends are having a good time with the concentric valve experiment.

    Take care.

    John

  • The engine itself is fantastic and it seems to have a little power. Do you know what the temperature is in the expansion chamber when it is running full.

  • @jimbronaugh

Jim. Actually the chamber is allot hotter than what it looks like on the video. I don't think I have a way to check.

    John

  • that shit is pretty awesome man

  • @KrankieV2

Thanks Tom, You have some cool stuff too. I'll have to take some time and have a look.

    John

  • @DadHav You never know what you'll find on my channel! haha

  • One candle power, maybe two.

  • Bellissimo

  • That's a lovely engine! Presumably you built it yourself? Do you sell them at all?

  • @kylegordon

Yes. I modified a raw material kit and machined the engine to new specifications. I could never sell them at any practical price because of all the time I have in them. There are some nice finished models of different types on E-bay if you search for Stirling Engines.

    Thanks

    John

  • important try out!

  • Could you suggest a motor that would run such a system?

  • @FauxZen69

I'm really sorry. I haven't seen anything that would take care of your needs. Not to say there isn't something out there.

    John

  • can you run the steam generator by splitting water into H2, O2 and burning them? are you getting enough power to run a house? Is it possible to scale up to get enough power to run a house? Could one design a house running all low voltage lighting fixtures and power the system by these technologies you are demonstrating?

  • @FauxZen69

Actually this is a hot air engine. If you split water into H2 you could find a better engine to run than this. Theres no intake and exhaust. The small experiments on my channel are far from what would be real world applications. Some of them charge batteries nicely but that's only a small accomplishment compared to what you need to run a house. I have acquaintances that run their house or t least part of it with battery banks charged by a larger scale of this charging technology.

  • Thanks for video! Will that run a stepper motor? Whats sort of electricity could it generate? LED lights?? These Stirling Motors are unreal would very much like to see and own a larger one one that can harness a common fireplaces heat or sunlight.

  • @ForPropertyInvestors

My little engine has very little power and is actually more representative of the old fashioned ones from a century ago. However, there are new modern versions that may already have the possibility to convert heat to some usable energy. I think thees one in a submarine someplace.

    John

  • FAKE! no just kidding, that's an awesome stirling engine. have you seen john bedini's work with back emf?? overunity system using lead acid batteries, it turns the batteries into negative resistors.

  • @camelsonhorizon

Ha. Yes, I've experimented with the Bedini stuff and even have a few videos posted. I've had success with charging LAD's but the problem is, I really have no use for them.

    Thanks

    John

  • Awesome. Thanks. Glade to see its not another bull video. Looks good.

  • @dr07828

Unfortunately the Net is full of Bull. No one hates it any more than I do. I've beat up on a few phonies that I knew 100% where fakes myself. I'm so old, tired and honest that it throws me out of gear when someone suspects I'm tricking them. The video of you shaking your head was very funny. It looks like Vegas has a few effects I don't have in Pinnacle

    Take Care.

    John.

  • Again............. a work of art! scottii

  • That stirling engine is a work of art.., same with your motors.

  • wow, do you have a video about the little sham wow cell? Looks very interesting. Thanx for the videos :)

  • get a better microphone!

  • Again beautiful work! If you get a small Fresnel lens and mount it so the sun can run your Stirling motor (ala green power science) perhaps you could charge batteries / supercaps on sunlight! Charge them up in the day and use them at night.

  • After watching this, I'm wondering, why don't plants use these stirling engines on the exhaust of their burners to produce some electricity? It might not be much, but still!

  • I could never understand how these work so well.

  • @andruha11234

The thing about this type engine and the low temperature style is they run only on the air in the engine. The air is heated in one cylinder and then pushed to a cooler cylinder. The heating and cooling expands and contracts the air in turn pushing and pulling the piston that runs the flywheel.

    John

  • awsome man. truly awsome

  • @satan31337

Thanks. Take a look at the first video too if you have time.

    John
