i jest got 2 pictus catfish and a silver tipped shark in teh same seized tank as yours but 1 pictus is not active at all he jest hides and nothing else is he jest getting used to his cage resting maby idk plz help!!!!!!!!
@stickanimator2000 He's probably just getting used to things. Some of them like to hide a lot and others don't. They can be sensitive Fish so don't get discouraged if something doesn't work out.
THOSE ARE SIVER ANGELIC CAT FISH I HAV A FEW,I LOVE THEM,AND RAINBOW SHARKS AND SILVER TIP SHARKS,,,I LOVE THE ANGELIC CATFISH...I HAVE A VIDEO OF THEM,YOU CAN CHECK THEM OUT
@furybarrage3 They would probably be okay for the time being but the silver Dollars will eventually get pretty big. I've had 2 Silver Dollars for about 2 years and they are 3 and a half inches from the top Fin to the bottom. I have 2 angel fish that size and they have a 29 Gallon all to themselves.
@furybarrage3 def. not =/ the silver dollars will get pretty big. about 5-6 inches i think. maybe more. im not a pro at silver dollars, more of an oscar guy myself ^.^
@bstal247 It has been my experience that they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths and that stays along the bottom so they probably would eat them.
@jetmea that was when it was in a 10 gallon. now its in a 55 gallon and its still crazy + it ate one of my bristle nose.these things need a 100 gallon atleast cos they need to swim around realy fast
Pictus catfish really calm down a lot once they have secure places to hide and what not. The reason why they seem to hyper in the stores is because they're usually in a tank with a ton of other fish and nowhere to hide.
Currently we have 2 fresh water flounder, 3 green spotted puffers, 6 tiger barbs, 2 silver dollars, 2 convicts, 1 livingstone cichlid, 1 pecock eel, and 2 pictus catfish in a 55 gallon. All juvenile for the exception of the convicts.
We were not educated that several of these fish actually prefer brackish, but can tolerate fresh water...so we are actually going to be setting up a 90 gallon brackish/marine tank for the flounder, and puffers. Puffers need 90 gallon if kept together
That sounds like a perfect choice and actually you could add some Tetras of your choice after a while. A 55 Gallon can support quite a few fish if you check your water and do partial changes every so often.
That sounds good, but in my opinion I think is better having fish from similar places, not mixing oriental with amazonic, for example, they'll do better because water parameters are similar and makes tank similar to nature, luck.
I also have a Pictus Catfish and It always sleeps in one plays in the log too, i guess it's normal? Ans she swims up and down the tank like crazy during the night. Is that normal? thanks
sorry about your cory fishes lol....just to give you a heads up pictus fish go great with any other community fish just make sure they are the same size or bigger than your pictus because they will eat them if they are smaller. And stay away from neon teteras!! They will fight
I have one Neon that was part of a school early on until I made a mistake with some bigger tetras and they killed every neon but him. The Pictus is more than large enough to swallow him, but doesn't. If I add any more Neons, he WILL eat THEM. It's crazy.
hey its me again cod5waw15 but i was saying that i was getting 1 and i got 1 i am going to get another 1 if u want look at my vid on him he is juss a lil guy but he has ate 2 baby mollies and a guppy lol but he is really cool to watch him eat. do u really need a log for them?
Oh rite, thanks. The reason i asked is that I've started keeping tropical fish about seven months ago and would like upgrade to a bigger tank. I would to get a three foot tank and would like to have a couple of bottom-dwellers in it. I have thought about Pleco fish but would they outgrow a three foot tank?
I don't think a Pleco would outgrow your Tank, a Pleco is a fairly docile Fish and one thing about the Pictus is they are very active. Pictus need a long Tank because they race along the Bottom at top speed and their whiskers get really long so it's easy for them to get hurt. There is not a lot to choose from in Bottom-dwellers.
Ok thanks for the info. I was under the impression that Plecos could grow pretty big. I know there's also a 'upside-down' catfish as my nearest aquatics store has one on display but I can imagine they are a bit expensive.
i can get pellets but would betta food work i had a betta befor and it at alot of my fish so i froz it for pike bait so ya all i want to know would betta food work?
hey man nice vid i am going out tomorroy to get 1 but my friend had 2and he had them with guppys platys and mollys but i think he got them when they were babys well not babys kind of more smaller but they never touched them but ummmm do they really need meat in the like baby sword tails and guppys thx get back to me plzzz
No they will eat most any bottom feeder Pellets. If you can find Hikari bottom feeder carnivore pellets that's what mine like best. They really do need some kind of Pellet Food though, they can't scavenge enough of the bottom once they get a little larger.
Yup, Pictus sure love their logs. That looks like the one I have too which my 2 stay in. Who knows, it might even be the same after all? Great tank! Calming to hear the background noise too. 5 stars.
Their Tank is 48"x12" and about 55 gallons or 208 Liters, but I believe a smaller Tank would work for them. If you get young, small Pictus it will take a while for them to get larger.
If you are considering feeder Fish these Pictus eat a lot and I don't think you could keep up, Pellets are better. If you are thinking of Fish to keep with them I would stay away from live bearers, most sleep on the bottom and if they are small enough they will be eaten quickly. There Tank has Tiger barbs, one Gold Barb, White skirt, black skirt and serpae Tetras, three corys and one big Bala Shark. There is also 2 Malawin Cichlids that I had to remove from other Tanks due to aggressiveness.
they will eat most scraps off of the floor, but they need some meat in their diet. You feed them catfish pellets an/or blood worms. They love worms. They will even take shrimp pellets. Just makes sure they get some meat
They like Hikari sinking carnivore Pellets. These Pellets are really the best thing for them when they are small because they are smaller than some of the other Foods. Once they get larger they will go after any bottom feeder food. Keep in mind, they don't scavage food like the Corys, they really need a nice Pellet Food. Good luck with your fish.
Pictus Females are larger than males. I have a Pictus in a 55g but it's still only a baby. I have a cory and it's smaller than the pictus and the pictus never bothers it. I had neons and those disappeared pretty quickly.
I have 4 small Cory in with the Pictus and they do fine. I put some smaller gold Barbs in a while back and they were the first I noticed disappearing. I put them in another Tank and let them get a little bigger. The only thing I have had a real problem with were some live-bearers I added, they sleep on the bottom and they all disappeared overnight. Thanks for the comment.
I have four pictus cats in the same tank as quite a few tiny zebra danios, they have all lived together happily for a long time now with none dissappearing. I think it`s a bit of a myth that pictus catfish eat anything smaller than themselves (famous last words!!!)
You're right, it depends where the Fish stay in the Tank. I have a few little Bloodfin Tetras that have been in with the catfish for years. They stay around the top and they are fine. And it is true, the 70"s were magic.Take care.
Ya, but i have a pictus in with juvinile mollies and they do fine together. so it really depends on how big the catfish is and their personality Yes, fish have personality! :D
That's true. I did put some Platy's in their Tank for a short while. The platy's sleep on the bottom and these Catfish were pretty large. The platy's started disappearing pretty quick. Thanks for the comment.
They do fine with other Fish as long as the other Fish aren't too small. The Pictus will eat anything that will fit in their mouths, including other Fish which stay along the bottom.
I think that would work just fine. If you give them a nice Log they will love it but they do hide out a lot so you don't see them as much. Thanks for watching.
i keep mine in a 10gaL i made it a cave in one corner and the rest of the room is open its very healthy and swimms a lot i dont feed it a lot so it wont get fat
I'm so glad you ask this. I hadn't realized it but I couldn't find the original food I was feeding my Fish so I have been feeding them the Wardleys Shrimp Pellets for a while now. I am sure they are getting pretty tired of the same old thing so I need to come up with some variety. Thanks again.
I've seen your Cory, I have four but there not old. These Pictus are in a 55 but that Tank has some Big Fish and soon I am going to have to do something. I have a 29 and a 10 also and they are all full and the Fish are getting bigger. I guess it's time to get some more Tanks.I hope your Christmas was good I hope the Anoles live high on the Hog in "08"
I used to have a 55 gal. with some pretty big cichlids and plecostumus cat. Sold the tank and fish when we moved. Now, I have the outdoor garden ponds & small 10 gal tank indoors. My goldfish have been quite prolific outside! I'll try to put together some video of the babies soon.:)
