Beautiful 1911. I'm always looking for Springfield Mil Spec 1911 vids just so I can look at the thing... Guess I should just buy one. Would you happen to know if Springfield has discontinued the shorter GI model? Can't find it on their website anymore.
@FlyingPancreas Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas. I am not sure about the G.I. model but will find out. Thanks again and if I have not got back to you say in a week, please if you remember, remind me. I will be able to find out though if I can remember. It stinks getting old. lol. : )
@ChromeFreak123 Thank you for tell me that Springfield doesn't make handguns in the United States. Now I know to get a Real American 1911 after I turn 21 not a foreign made piece of shit. A 1911 was made in the US not in a foreign country. If I had a hard time finding an American made 1911, I will get a HK USP45 instead good foreign quality.
@BigJ782011 I am a big buy American guy but the Springfield is not a piece of crap, it is a really nice affordable 1911. I do wish Springfield would be honest though and stop trying to make people believe that they are the original Springfield when they are not, they just bought the rights to the name but in no way shape or form are they the Springfield Armory that was a US government arsenal. Their guns are nice though. Thanks bro... : )
@ChromeFreak123 I know Springfield 1911s are nice looking but when I am over 21 I want my first .45 ACP to be a 1911 that is Made in America/ USA. If all 1911 where made in foreign countries, I wound hold of on them cuz a 1911 is an American gun. If that was the case my first .45 ACP would be a H&K/ HK USP-45. I would pay top dollar for a higher end foreign made firearm, espically one made in Germany. And I got question, "What would you get a Beretta 92FS that was made in America or Italy?"
@BigJ782011 It really would not matter to me as long as the quality control was the same in both countries but would prefer the American because it helps employ Americans. Thanks. : )
@ChromeFreak123 I was think if one made in America woukd be good to buy because your hard earned money is putting money into the American economy. Then I was think the Italian one beacuse Beretta is an Italian company and getting one from the country of orgin would be more genunie and might have the original quality like an American 1911 (preferribly Colt). But I would get a 92FS that was made in America to help out the economy.
@nchau78666 Well, I would say the Makarov is to Russia what the 1911 is to America. lol. I love the m16, dont get me wrong but man I really love the Garand and also the m14. Thanks. : )
In the end my friend, it doesn't matter where the gun come from. As long as it keeps going bang each time you pull the trigger, that gun will have some love. I love the garand, the M1A, the M16, but I also love the enfield, the AK-47, Arisaka, etc.
which is better series 70 or series 80? also i hate that they are made in Brazil but i am getting one of the Springfield GI 45s because i love the looks of them. Brazil just don't seem like a gun making country at all.
@niteholler Depends, i would need a little more info on what you like. lol. They are all great guns. Tell me what exactly you are looking for in a 1911. Thanks brother. : )
@ChromeFreak123 i have a Colt series 70 1911 and i want another 1911 that looks as much like the WWII era military models as i can get. i asked my gunshop what the price of the Springfield GI .45 was and they told me Springfield don't make them anymore which bummed me out bigtime because that is the 1911 i want most at the moment. maybe a Springfield mil-spec would suit what i'm looking for now.
@niteholler I will check on that for you but I have not heard they stopped amking them but I can confirm that or dispel it. I will let you know. The G.I. is actually closer to the original WW2 military 1911 than the mil. spec. one is. That would be sad for them to stop making such a great 1911. I will get back to you on it, I promise. : ) Thanks.
@MeLlamoBradly I agree with that but they are for the price, one of the best deals out there. Great guns and if you need any advice, contact me.Thanks. : )
@dantheman167 Some are made in Brazil and some have pieces that are made in the US and assembled in Brazil but Brazil has a lot to do with Springfield 1911's. I do not think it hurts the quality but if you are looking for a 100% American made 1911, the Springfield is not that, The XD's and the XDM's are made in Croatia. Thanks brother. : )
@ChromeFreak123 yea im one of those guys that will only buy a gun that is assembled and made in the USA. i would definitely not buy a 1911 made in another country just because i feel that the 1911 is an American icon. its kind of like wanting a hot dog but only being able to get a kielbasa. its just not the same thing. Its such a disappointment. i appreciate your info keep it coming
@jntroisi No, it is a series 70 type pistol. it does not have a firing pin safety instead it uses a very light firing pin. This is a proprietary part. All the other parts can be used with a Colt series 70. Thanks. : )
People buy guns everyday yet most of them don't even know the business end of a gun let alone the damage it can do. I've asked my senator to make viewing of gunshot wounds videos and a trip to the hospital's trauma center a must to prospective first time gun buyers. Heck, they teach sex education to elementary kids, why not teach them about guns too! Don't wait for the NRA to educate your kids they love to give your kids gun and watch them blow their heads off. Black kids especially.
@BullyChicken Although I am for teaching our children about firearms and firearm safety, I think it is the parents job and not the federal governments. The NRA fights for the Constitution and though I don't agree with them 100% of the time, it is about 95% of the time. Thank You. : )

Thanks for the review. I've heard some of the local guys say that these are junk. But I take that with a grain of salt as these guys are out buying $1500-$2500 pistols to shoot so their frame of reference is somewhat off. If it will feed, fire, and eject the ammo every time you pull the trigger and put those rounds into a bad guy then youve got a winner. And I think that for the price Springfield is asking that i'm going to pick one up to find out for myself. :)
@hallis1 For the price, they are outstanding pistols. I appreciate the high dollar 1911's but for a great reliable shooter, you can not go wrong with a Springfield. Thanks and you should get one, you will love it. : )
@Moonfood78 I know and I am sorry. I was not a partner then and back then we only had 10 minutes with a 1 minute grace period to get the video done, so I used my iphone timer. lol. Thanks. : )
@1LimaUniformLimaZulu lol, something else. If I was going to ccw a 1911, it would be a defender size model. I also own a G23, it is a perfect size firearm in my opinion. However, when it comes to ccw, I want as compact as I can get. If I was going to ccw a .45 acp Glock, it would be the G36 for me. I am featuring your video on my channel. lol.
@TheDoogee Thank you, it is much appreciated. I hope you are having a great 4th and you might want to check out my partner channel, it is kwgunworks. Thanks again. : )
@blitznk9 You will not be disappointed. These are very well built pistols that will last your and my lifetime. I highly recommend them. Thanks for watching. : )
Enjoyed your video, ChromeFreak. I carry Springfield Armory 1911's and I agree with you, the name is a little misleading. I love their guns, but do wish they wouldn't try to pull that card in advertising. It would also be wonderful if they brought all their manufacturing back to the States. Thanks for sharing about your pistol.
@RoccoHoss Basically they fake rounds and you can dry fire all day and it gives a buffer so you do not damage your firing pin or hammer. You can dry fire a 1911 but at least these give it some kind of cushion. Thanks.
I have been studying this and I found that the Sig 226R is used by the Navy Seals and the FBI. I am certain the Navy Seals use 9mm. At one time the FBI used Sig 9mm however I am not certain of that. This is the gun I currently own. The Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Professional is the one I believe is used by the FBI Swat Team. They can not put FBI on the gun because it especially made for them. I have not shot a 1911, it is difficult for me to understand why they picked it. IE rounds.
@rick9119ab I have been extremely busy and not had time to research it but I take your word for it. I love the 1911 and can understand why they would use it, they are great firearms. I do also understand that some others would be great choices too because of the mag. capacity. It is a preference matter probably. I would think that the government probably has a contract for certain firearms and might give agents a choice to buy or use their own but I do not know that for a fact. Thanks.
@rick9119ab - The FBI-issued SA Pro models have "Bureau Issue" engraved into the slide. Those ones are not sold to the public. However, Springfield does offer the Pro model to the public. It's an upgrade package they will do on the Mil-Spec. And it's pretty much the same exact thing as the FBI "Bureau Issue" except that it doesn't say that on the slide.
How many rounds you have doesn't matter unless you can hit the target. The 1911 passed their tests is why.
I found this very interesting. You did a great job. I would like to ask you a question. Is this the same 1911 that the FBI Special agents carry. I would appreciate your comments.
@rick9119ab I will be honest, I have no idea about them carrying this 1911. I would doubt it though, this is a WW11 replica 1911. They may carry a Springfield but I don't think this one. I thought that the FBI carried Sigs. I will check in to it though and get back to you. I thank you for the kind words.
@rick9119ab - The FBI SWAT issues the "Bureau Issue," which is a Springfield Armory Professional (which is a Custom Shop build on the Mil-Spec). It is everything that the Springfield Armory TRP is, except that the PROFESSIONAL has a Nowlin match barrel/bushing, and is hand-fitted. And they use the Cocobolo wood grips instead of the G10s that the TRP has.
And the PROFESSIONAL is made with 6 seven-round Metalform brand magazines that were specifically made for the gun.
@mgiaco52 Thanks for watching and commenting. It is a pleasure to share on yt, I love doing videos and wish I had more time to do more. lol. Thanks again.
Nice review. Nice history of 1911 pistol and specs of current crop. I agree, using the name of a former company that touts american history, yet has ties to overseas manufacturing, is wrong in my honest opinion. BUT, their guns are great. My daily carry gun for the past 8 years has been a heavy ass stainless Loaded model. I think I recall 1 (thats ONE) stovepipe in 8 years of shooting this gun. This thing is slick as grease. Will DEFINETELY purchase another 1911 Springer.
@patinaz2005 Ya, they should be honest and say we are not the same Springfield but we will do the name proud. I would respect them more for that. I do think they are making some great firearms though. I coukld not carry this pistol daily but the few times a year that we get cold weather, It is a pleasure to know I have the 1911 in reach. Thanks.
@tyhouston5 I acyually like the G.I. better and truth be told, it is a lot closer to the actual mil. spec 1911 that our forces used compared to the mil. spec. I know that sounds crazy but it is true. The G.I. is well over 90% accurate and the Mil. spec is not that close. Thanks and hope this answers your question.
@ChromeFreak123 Do you find the sights difficult to use? I want a 1911 that most closely resembles the original, so I am leaning toward the GI, but sights are so small.
@tyhouston5 Yes, they are not the best sights but they are what they are, a copy of the WW2 1911. I love the pistol and it shoots like a dream. Thanks bro...
@ChromeFreak123 I have decided that a Parkarized GI will be my first 1911. I will keep it stock, and if I ever want a 1911 to pimp out then i will get another.
@ChromeFreak123 - The Mil-Spec is slightly better in some respects. I found the grips more comfortable (Cocobolo Cross-Cannon w/ bevel treatment as opposed to the standard "US" grips). I liked the slide serrations on the GI a little better. One thing that the Mil-Spec has compared to the GI is the stainless steel barrel.
I like the sights better on the GI. Lower profile and are easier than the Mil-Spec ones that will snag on a holster.
@ChromeFreak123 - Well one thing you can do too is just take a factory GI, and send it in and get the lowered and flared ejection port. You can get a stainless barrel put on it... I had a stainless GI that I had the lowered/flared port put on and I just ordered those grips for it. It cost me about $150 both ways.
@TheHogger129 Well, yes you could do that or you could also just take a dremel out and polish the barrel to a beautiful shine, it is a stainless barrel, it is just parkerized. It will buff right off. As far as the lower and flared ejection port, the G.I. is a little of both but much closer to the actual 1911 A1. The Mil. Spec. does have a much more flared and lowered port but I have had no problems with this one. I would love to order the grips though. I am enjoying these comments. Thank you.
You so right about the labor portion of this company.. I really hate that they had to take jobs away from the US to make more money and still label it as original Springer.
@tabutog I have heard some good things about RIA, however, I love the Springfield and for basically the same amount of money, I am going with the Springfield. I appreciate you asking. thanks.
@tabutog - I had a Rock before I got a Springer. If you compare the standard 1911-A1 Rock to the GI Springfield, the Rock is slightly less expensive because it is not name brand. The Rock also has a lowered and flared ejection port standard that the GI does not. Otherwise they are essentially the same gun. Oh- the Springfield is also build from forged steel as opposed to cast and forged steel is stronger and slightly lighter. I prefer the Springer a little more.
@themarine1701 What are you talking about ? It has a spur hammer, I don't know that I said wide. I have to rewatch the video, it has been awhile. Thanks.
@AirsoftVeteran96 I love the dark look of the parke... but the stainless is beautiful. I wanted this to stay as close to the WW2 as possible, so I opted for this. This way it starts to wear with the look and it IMO is badass. Thanks bro..
I have owned my SA1911 Mil Spec for over 10 years now and know exactly what you mean when you say there is just something about some pistols; I feel the same way about mine..there just seems to be a soul in these things that doesn't exist to the same extent in the upper end models (not that I wouldn't mind a couple of those :). Love your enthusiasm, thanks for this informative post.
@bigphil562 That is a myth. I do not dry fire all the time, I use snap caps but there is no problem dry firing a 1911. As far as I know the only firearms you should never dry fire are rim fire rifles and pistols. I still don't make it a habit though, I like having that snap cap as a cushion.
I understand your Ferarri Gun reference and totally agree !! Got to be one of the most beautiful pieces of work !! You also spoke of the gun having not so tight tolerances. Is this the reason I found a more jazzed up SA 1911 so very hard to rack? Is the Mil-Spec easier to rack? Loved the video and hope you can answer my racking question. Thanks !! :)
@quu777 Yes, the tighter pistol will be a little harder to rack but, it shouldn't be that much harder. When I say looser tolerances, we are talking thousandths of an inch. It should also be a little harder to pull the hammer back. If you go ahead and full cock the hammer, it will rack a little easier but, make sure your finger is not no where near the trigger. Also , the looser tolerances, make a more reliable pistol, just a little less accurate.
@quu777 One more thing, when they are brand new, they are also a little tighter. After you put enough break in rounds through it, it will loosen up some. Thanks for watching.
Excellent presentation of the history behind the 1911. The 1911 is definitely my favorite semi-automatic pistol. The legacy of the genius of John Browning is that these pistols are still being produced after a century and continue to be refined. Amazing the 1911 is still seeing front-line service with the FBI and many special forces units. The Springfield MC Operator 1911 is still made in the USA.
@thepassman John Bownings history alone could be an excellent video in itself. I know that the FBI swat teams are using 1911 A1 Springfields. I did not know the operator was still made here in the US. That is great, just wish they all were. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@gangstapranksta717 It very well could be, I know he probably loves to secretly watch every Jew that makes a vid on yt.lol. It also might be a better video than the one his friend made.
@MrApocalypsefighter I am going to make another from the range and maybe one doing a complete disassemble and cleaning, we will see. Thanks for watching.
@RCH45ACP Lol, Yes I did and so far you are the only one to catch it. I actually watched the vid after I made it and when I said that I was like NO man, I put it in annotations, I guess I need to make sure the annotation is there. Thanks for watching.
Great Review .Never shot one , I've owned a lot of 1911's and have a couple that work for me . If I was starting over again I would buy a Springfield tomorrow .
Glad to see you enjoying it! Am I weird for liking the wear spots on the parkerizing? I think it adds something to the gun to have a little on the edges.
Great vid Mike! I was just wondering do you like that pistol? LOL! I think I have to get one you have convinced me. At $529.. you can't go wrong. Thanks. Hope all is well.
@Mr45Bullitt Thanks Bill I am having problems with my key board, I typed back to you and reread it and missed a bunch.lol. My luck. Anyways, thanks for watching and ya I kinda like the 1911.lol
great video chromefreak! The 1911 is an amazing platform, and although glock will definitely have its own niche in the future as far as reliability and simplicity goes, nothing will ever match the 1911 for comfort and its natural point and shoot ability IMO.
I've heard so many great things about these GI models, I might need to pick one up next year after my 21st
@nicker3290 That is right, they have a natural feel that no other gun can match. I love Glock also and many makes but, right now I personally have a favorite and the 1911 is it. Thanks bro.
Beautiful 1911. I'm always looking for Springfield Mil Spec 1911 vids just so I can look at the thing... Guess I should just buy one. Would you happen to know if Springfield has discontinued the shorter GI model? Can't find it on their website anymore.

in world war 2 they had low profile sights, 7 round magazine, .45 acp, witha blued steel finish, and plastic (yes plastic) grips
this model has low profile sight, 7 round magazine, .45, with a parkarised finish, and walnut grips

I had a quick ? what are the snap caps you popped out of the chamber and talked about? thanks
RoccoHoss 1 year ago

IE rounds.
rick9119ab 1 year ago
@rick9119ab I have been extremely busy and not had time to research it but I take your word for it. I love the 1911 and can understand why they would use it, they are great firearms. I do also understand that some others would be great choices too because of the mag. capacity. It is a preference matter probably. I would think that the government probably has a contract for certain firearms and might give agents a choice to buy or use their own but I do not know that for a fact. Thanks.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@rick9119ab - The FBI-issued SA Pro models have "Bureau Issue" engraved into the slide. Those ones are not sold to the public. However, Springfield does offer the Pro model to the public. It's an upgrade package they will do on the Mil-Spec. And it's pretty much the same exact thing as the FBI "Bureau Issue" except that it doesn't say that on the slide.
How many rounds you have doesn't matter unless you can hit the target. The 1911 passed their tests is why.
TheHogger129 9 months ago
I found this very interesting. You did a great job. I would like to ask you a question. Is this the same 1911 that the FBI Special agents carry. I would appreciate your comments.
rick9119ab 1 year ago
@rick9119ab I will be honest, I have no idea about them carrying this 1911. I would doubt it though, this is a WW11 replica 1911. They may carry a Springfield but I don't think this one. I thought that the FBI carried Sigs. I will check in to it though and get back to you. I thank you for the kind words.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@rick9119ab - The FBI SWAT issues the "Bureau Issue," which is a Springfield Armory Professional (which is a Custom Shop build on the Mil-Spec). It is everything that the Springfield Armory TRP is, except that the PROFESSIONAL has a Nowlin match barrel/bushing, and is hand-fitted. And they use the Cocobolo wood grips instead of the G10s that the TRP has.
And the PROFESSIONAL is made with 6 seven-round Metalform brand magazines that were specifically made for the gun.

Will DEFINETELY purchase another 1911 Springer.
patinaz2005 1 year ago
@patinaz2005 Ya, they should be honest and say we are not the same Springfield but we will do the name proud. I would respect them more for that. I do think they are making some great firearms though. I coukld not carry this pistol daily but the few times a year that we get cold weather, It is a pleasure to know I have the 1911 in reach. Thanks.

Why the GI over the MilSpec?
tyhouston5 1 year ago
@tyhouston5 I acyually like the G.I. better and truth be told, it is a lot closer to the actual mil. spec 1911 that our forces used compared to the mil. spec. I know that sounds crazy but it is true. The G.I. is well over 90% accurate and the Mil. spec is not that close. Thanks and hope this answers your question.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@ChromeFreak123 Do you find the sights difficult to use? I want a 1911 that most closely resembles the original, so I am leaning toward the GI, but sights are so small.
tyhouston5 1 year ago
@tyhouston5 Yes, they are not the best sights but they are what they are, a copy of the WW2 1911. I love the pistol and it shoots like a dream. Thanks bro...
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@ChromeFreak123 I have decided that a Parkarized GI will be my first 1911. I will keep it stock, and if I ever want a 1911 to pimp out then i will get another.
tyhouston5 1 year ago
@ChromeFreak123 - The Mil-Spec is slightly better in some respects. I found the grips more comfortable (Cocobolo Cross-Cannon w/ bevel treatment as opposed to the standard "US" grips). I liked the slide serrations on the GI a little better. One thing that the Mil-Spec has compared to the GI is the stainless steel barrel.
I like the sights better on the GI. Lower profile and are easier than the Mil-Spec ones that will snag on a holster.
Mil-Spec also has lowered/flared ejection port
TheHogger129 9 months ago
@TheHogger129 I can agree with most of that. lol. I am a little biased to the G.I. but I understand your point. Thanks. : )
ChromeFreak123 9 months ago
@ChromeFreak123 - Well one thing you can do too is just take a factory GI, and send it in and get the lowered and flared ejection port. You can get a stainless barrel put on it... I had a stainless GI that I had the lowered/flared port put on and I just ordered those grips for it. It cost me about $150 both ways.
TheHogger129 9 months ago
@TheHogger129 Well, yes you could do that or you could also just take a dremel out and polish the barrel to a beautiful shine, it is a stainless barrel, it is just parkerized. It will buff right off. As far as the lower and flared ejection port, the G.I. is a little of both but much closer to the actual 1911 A1. The Mil. Spec. does have a much more flared and lowered port but I have had no problems with this one. I would love to order the grips though. I am enjoying these comments. Thank you.

You so right about the labor portion of this company.. I really hate that they had to take jobs away from the US to make more money and still label it as original Springer.

i have a question how does this 1911 compare to the rock island armory 1911 in terms of reliability and accuracy?
tabutog 1 year ago
@tabutog never buy anything that say Rock Island Armory unless you want a piece of trash.....its up to you
CajunFireman225 1 year ago
@tabutog I have heard some good things about RIA, however, I love the Springfield and for basically the same amount of money, I am going with the Springfield. I appreciate you asking. thanks.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@tabutog - I had a Rock before I got a Springer. If you compare the standard 1911-A1 Rock to the GI Springfield, the Rock is slightly less expensive because it is not name brand. The Rock also has a lowered and flared ejection port standard that the GI does not. Otherwise they are essentially the same gun. Oh- the Springfield is also build from forged steel as opposed to cast and forged steel is stronger and slightly lighter. I prefer the Springer a little more.

AirsoftVeteran96 1 year ago
@AirsoftVeteran96 I love the dark look of the parke... but the stainless is beautiful. I wanted this to stay as close to the WW2 as possible, so I opted for this. This way it starts to wear with the look and it IMO is badass. Thanks bro..

I have owned my SA1911 Mil Spec for over 10 years now and know exactly what you mean when you say there is just something about some pistols; I feel the same way about mine..there just seems to be a soul in these things that doesn't exist to the same extent in the upper end models (not that I wouldn't mind a couple of those :). Love your enthusiasm, thanks for this informative post.

hey i was under the impression you are not to dry fire 1911's???
bigphil562 1 year ago
@bigphil562 That is a myth. I do not dry fire all the time, I use snap caps but there is no problem dry firing a 1911. As far as I know the only firearms you should never dry fire are rim fire rifles and pistols. I still don't make it a habit though, I like having that snap cap as a cushion.

quu777 1 year ago
@quu777 You are welcome. Thanks for asking.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
I understand your Ferarri Gun reference and totally agree !! Got to be one of the most beautiful pieces of work !! You also spoke of the gun having not so tight tolerances. Is this the reason I found a more jazzed up SA 1911 so very hard to rack? Is the Mil-Spec easier to rack? Loved the video and hope you can answer my racking question. Thanks !! :)
quu777 1 year ago
@quu777 Yes, the tighter pistol will be a little harder to rack but, it shouldn't be that much harder. When I say looser tolerances, we are talking thousandths of an inch. It should also be a little harder to pull the hammer back. If you go ahead and full cock the hammer, it will rack a little easier but, make sure your finger is not no where near the trigger. Also , the looser tolerances, make a more reliable pistol, just a little less accurate.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
@quu777 One more thing, when they are brand new, they are also a little tighter. After you put enough break in rounds through it, it will loosen up some. Thanks for watching.
ChromeFreak123 1 year ago
Does that GI model rattle like alot of the the other mil spec pistols. As in a loose slide frame fit?
MrWWWWTTTTFFFF 1 year ago

Excellent presentation of the history behind the 1911. The 1911 is definitely my favorite semi-automatic pistol. The legacy of the genius of John Browning is that these pistols are still being produced after a century and continue to be refined. Amazing the 1911 is still seeing front-line service with the FBI and many special forces units. The Springfield MC Operator 1911 is still made in the USA.
thepassman 1 year ago
@thepassman John Bownings history alone could be an excellent video in itself. I know that the FBI swat teams are using 1911 A1 Springfields. I did not know the operator was still made here in the US. That is great, just wish they all were. Thank you for watching and commenting.

great video chromefreak! The 1911 is an amazing platform, and although glock will definitely have its own niche in the future as far as reliability and simplicity goes, nothing will ever match the 1911 for comfort and its natural point and shoot ability IMO.
