Hi Gary - I am so impressed with your free tuition and sharing attitude. Have just watched your plaster wall tiles and will put on agenda. Have done ceramic ones and this looks much easier. I can't settle on any one thing which is why your videos appeal and I guess I end up with a bit of everything (that's mixed media for you - an excuse and reason for everything!!! Cheers - Patricia Mortensen, Northland, NZ
Love your videos...I have to say today is my luckly day I found your videos...This summer break is am going to try few of your techniques...Thank you very much...love watching you do all these projects...you make them look so easy...
I can't wait to see you make your art on these. Here's something you might want to try - I took a plaster art workshop a few years back and when preparing the plaster we put a spoonful of carpenter's glue (one hefty squirt) into the mix and it made a huge difference in how solid the finished piece was. You could still carve into it and sand it, but it just seemed stronger than the older pieces I had done.
I was thinking along the same vein as NolaGB re: the oily residue that could remain on the plaster. I would be interested in using waterbased paints on these, so that could be problematic. And the "powdery" residue you were referring to has an appeal to me. I could be wrong tho and this could result in a big muddy mess. That's the nature of art tho, right, experimentation...NO FEAR! ;) So, love your relief tiles and can't wait to see them with your brilliant painting added.
Love your process, experimentation, and generosity for sharing, it's very inspiring watching you work. Looks like you're slowly getting into 3D sculpture Hehe... Can't wait to see these tiles painted.
very cool tiles!!! Love "watching" your brain go and go and go........ And the way you continuously handle, stroke, touch whatever you're working on reminds me how tactile we artists are:-)
Thank you Gary, you are special and you share ! Bless You.... Ann in Canada

As interesting as ever Gary, the relief effects you get are brilliant - I always like it best when you use natural forms like leaves etc.

Doesn't using an oil spray leave a residue that interferes with painting? If you clean the residue from the spray, what do use?

Did you use any sort of mould release agent on the leaves or did they just come off that easily on their own?
