Saw them live and they were fantastic! I discovered them on the soundtrack from City of Ghosts a few years earlier, so it was a thrill to see them. Originality rarely gets rewarded in the US.

it brings a new twist to the genre into another...the funky music and khmer. the new with the old. its not for everybody.

They were interviewed by NPR last year or so... they wanted an authentic Cambodian voice to ffront their band... so they interviewed and were lucky enough to find an authentic Cambodian pop star of famous family orgin. Very cool.

the whole idea is that songwriter found a lot of cheap cambodian tapes from the late 60s/early 70s and wanted to do a revival of that music. For the beginning of their career they did many straight covers of that music was an authentic Khmer vocalist to match, but over their career they've managed to gain more of their own voice as they started to infuse more genres, such as ethiopian jazz, to the mix in order to create their own genuine unique sound.

@DyingZen yeah, i always liked the khmer rocks from the 60s and 70s, it sound alot like breakdancing music too and i'm a bboy so it felt good to know my culture has music like that, but the thing was it wasn't clear and dengue fever brought it back. And also brought their own. my personal favorite is "tip my canoe" theres a remix on my page.

they're a band called Dengue Fever. a very unique band with a Khmer lead singer.

They are all from Los Angeles, except for the lead singer Chom Nimol who is from a musical family in Cambodia. The American guys heard Cambodian oldies music on a vacaction there. They often play in the LA area.
