  • @MalolaAnime Depends, how dedicated to running are you? Are you going to be serious about my advice or are you going to plan, research, discuss but fail to execute?

  • @runwithkyrstin2002 No offense but you'd end up walking the majority of the way. But stick with the 5k and mile runs. 24 minutes is fantastic for a very very young runner. Keep it goin and dont overdo it as it can harm how you grow.

  • @Drpatrick777

    It's quite good, actually.

    I'm like 40 mins 5K... =P

I don't like to run, though... I do 'cus I need endurance...

    Any advice??

  • not impressive

  • Baigais malacis!!! Super!!!

  • I would've run a marathon by now... But my parents don't let me.

  • @tripleMmagic my country does not allow people younger then 18 to run anything longer then a marathon (in an official race). So I am sticking to half marathons in races & my own unofficial long runs :). Try to convince your parents? Or let them bike next to you in your long runs?

  • its unhealthy but a great achievement me being myself could never do that 400m and 800m for me

  • All props out to that girl she is a legend =)!

  • i am nine and would love to try this, i run 5 km all the time with times around 24 mins i am working on 10km but would love to do this. i have my running vids on my channel. congrats on the race and keep up the hard work.

  • 50 Miles is way too much for a 13 year old, but chase your dreams and be happy about it!

  • OMG i'm in love. This girl is amazing, for real. I just wish she would have thought about her big yeti feet making earthquakes when she was running though.

  • not to be mean but i saw her during the race and she was crying because she wanted to quit but she would not allow herself because so many knew about her doing it

  • People are born to run, look at the evolution and anatomy of the human body, it is designed to efficiently run long distances. Otherwise how did people survive in the wild? Distance doesn't hurt people, poor technique and speed hurt people.

  • ultramarathon or spartathlon is the runing after 12 hours without stoping!

50 miles or 100 miles is not ultramarathon!!! Just a notice...

  • @GiannioG I'm sorry, but you are wrong there. If you look at international track and field/road runner guidelines, an ultramarathon is anything over 26.2 miles, usually beginning with the 50k

  • @Rbrockcoble The greek word ''Ultramarathon'',meaning whatever beyond, highter. But this is in therory not in practise, because one who will run 45 and go to 50 is not ultrarunner, because nothing changed, neither his training neither his aproach even if ho goes to 100 because his body can still control his movement. The characteristic of ultra - beyond reflects the TEMPERAMENT.The ultra runner is a distinct being; has a distinct personality and that its reveal after 24 hours running. GIANNIS KOUROS

  • @GiannioG You really didn't make since there. I'm talking about the official, professional definition of Ultramarathon. What Olympic class organizations consider an ultramarathon to be. You're just expressing what in your opinion it should be.

  • @GiannioG ok well RUNNERSWORLDTV says she ran an ultramaration... so yeah...

  • @jukebox1322 And you believe TV??? I just sayed the real point of what is ultramarathon!!! Is beyond from your limits, and you break your limits after 6-12 hours running, dont have to do with miles.

See documentary of Giannis Kouros and you will understand!!!

  • Yeas that is a fine accomplishmen, but at that age not healthy at all. There is a reason why many marathons have an age limit of 16 years.

  • Hey Mackenzie Riford, you are the most inspiring and wonderful person! I wish I could have an ounce of the dedication that you have. One Love, girl!

  • that's incredible.. but it's not healthy for someone at that age at all

  • When I was 13, I barely made it through 1st yr of CC. Almost quit but made it. Now 15yrs later, still enjoy running. I'm going 4 lifetime as long as I still have the passion 4 it. I always feel better when I cross the finish line no matter what the time. This girl is an inspiration to me to keep running.

  • All you losers need to stop hating and posting negative remarks of any kind, simply bc ur lack of determination didn't permit u to do what Mackenzie is doing at her age. GO MACKENZIE!!

  • I feel sorry for their knees, ankles, hips and backs, but it is up to them what they want to do with their lives.

  • @eurohim your pathetic

  • @casketofdog Damn me and my facts.

  • @eurohim Believe it or not, humans evolved to run. Their superior body heat management system, aka sweating, allows humans to hold the record for being able to run the longest distance. Humans used to hunt by running for very long distances following the animal until it collapses from heat stroke or exhaustion. Humans are naturals at running and their joints and bones adapt to and can cope with the stress.

  • Video is broken for me

  • Naive lol I've forgotten more than you know about muscle physiology. Humans may be designed to run but they sure as hell aint designed to overtrain, which all runners do! this is hypertonus' best friend, dont worry though as nearly all therapists also dont have a clue how to really treat muscles i.e. elbows on backs! is a no no! as far as your Dawinism bit regarding primitive man goes, do you honestly think they were doing this every day? I think not, hence they were not overtraining.

  • she will be fried in highschool

  • Not hard tissue, I'm talking about soft tissue - 45-50% of the humman body, although there are no myologists or muscle Doctors which is an appaling state of affairs tbh, until I came across the work of Thomas Griner 'NeuroSoma' the only guy out there who has devolped a unique way of treating Hypertonic muscle spasm. btw humans are not designed for running every other day, being used and abused for the sake of some marathon or other, I can go into this alot more but

  • @Helios601 What's amazing is out of all the runners I know from 5k to ultras and iron man triathletes I have never heard of hypertonic until your comment. I think saying humans aren't designed for running is rather naive, it you look at human history we were hunter/gathers before agriculture was discovered, we are weak animals and we are not very fast, but the humans survived on their ability to literally run animals to death.

  • Contrary to what most people think, running is not good for you, do some research on 'Hypertonus' and its effects on skeletal muscle, the more you know about muscle physiology the more you know this. It's healthy to a point, but ofcourse nobody stops at this point because it has less to do with exercise and more an obsession.

  • @Helios601 It's the way we run these days that makes it unhealthy. Check out the book "Born to Run", it is very effective at explaining why MOST runners today do not run correctly and how to fix it. We have been running for literally hundreds of thousands of years. Running is not unhealthy, it's what we were meant to do.

That being said, distance running can alter your joint/muscle growth is you do it too much before they are completely developed.

  • I hope she is careful. This isn't normally accepted as being "good" for you as a developing youth. That being said, her mental discipline is astounding, and regardless of whether she is running when she is older, she is very likely to accomplish great things in her life.

  • @Rissoleking-Seriously? Look at at those elite Africans, the best distance runners in the world. They run miles and miles every day as children!

  • all the haters are hating cause they can ALL get out ran by her

  • I'm not trying to be cruel, but this is not good. I raced through high school and beyond, the only girls doing anything remotely close to Mackenzie Riford stopped running before their 20s. Not because they were lazy, but because they physically couldn't continue. Good on her for having a positive attitude etc, but any doctor who said 'sure, 13-year-old girl, you can run 50 miles' is a quack. Maybe I'll be proved wrong in 10yrs time, but I doubt it.

  • wtf se was talking about how people are calling her crazy and like she didint think it was crazy why BECAUSE THIS WORLD IS STUPID THERE ALL FAT UNMOTIVATED LOOSERS WHO NEED TO GO DIE BECAUSE THEY THINK A COUPLE MILES IS ALOT PLZ WORLD KILL THEM PPL THEY DISERVE TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • good job

  • i wana do this

  • there are only two types of people: those who say it can't be done, and those who do it.

  • I was starting to feel a good about the things I've accomplished in life, but this video helped me remember I'm actually a failure.

Just kidding - great job MacKenzie!

  • great stuff. very inspirational

  • woooooooooo FREDERCK

  • Why can you do that and I can't

  • don't all kids usually love to run? baby animals run too. I say go for it, just don't force it and don't diet and don't force it if you have any kind of pain, don't run through it, some adults are stupid and try to run through minor pain that ends up crippling them in the long run. I used to run when I was a teen ager, no harm in it. I would rather see kids in sports and running then in gangs and in drugs or pregenant at 13 of which I have seen in the past.

  • Well done mackenzie

  • Great Job!!! Hope your still keeping up the running!

  • Having run several 100 mile runs I say well done to her, as long as she is being looked after then go for it

  • are u jealous asshole? becoz u cant run that distance 80kilometer that girl will kick ur fargot ass.

  • That's awesome (I run in marathons myself)

  • that is awesome!!!

  • You guys made my nose get wet!, love running, it's my addiction & passion!! and hope one day I can run with my daughter as welll!!!!

PS: U 2 GOT SAME PACE, THAT WAS NICE AND EASY TO NOTICE!!!

  • In a day and age where kids are either obese, struggle with self-esteem, identity and peer pressure, this beautiful young girl did something amazing. You can tell she knows who she is, has a determination that will take her far in life, and has a hell of a mother to support her. I find it amazing that so many people would come on here and talk about of shit, which is merely a testimonial of their own insecurities. I hope she continues to push herself, and may she succeed in all she does.

  • I went to skool last year with her brother

  • That much mileage on an adolescent will create stress fractures in her leg bones. Does that lack of parental oversight qualify as "neglect"? Anyone know? And yes, "mom", you ARE crazy.

  • @openuniverse2003

Openuniverse-Stupid is as stupid does-and YOU ARE just plain stooopid!

  • @happylifeisgreat I think that this vid clip should be forwarded to the Department of Child and Family Services, just to be sure.

  • @openuniverse2003

YOU ARE ONE STUPID HUMAN BEING.

  • @happylifeisgreat What? What was that? Could you speak a little louder? Thanks, dummy.

  • @openuniverse2003

You are the reason abortions are still legal-good day stupid ass!

  • @happylifeisgreat You sound really angry and bitter at life. WHy don't you post under a more honest username? LULZ!

  • oh my god...are you serious?!?!?

if she can, that's amazing! i'm a 13 year old girl, and i can't even run 3 miles!

  • born to run...it is a special gift and you will only enjoy the fruits of this labor for a life time!way awesome.

  • she'll betters to Josh Cox in record 50 milles :D

    nice and good job :)

  • that little girl definitely makes me feel like a MAJOR pussy. mad props.

  • i bet she'll beat josh cox's 50k record. lol.

  • And she only ran 11:57:06= 14:18. which also equals a walk.

  • @idkwhattoput1233 yea .. i hike that in a day

  • *Great job running!*

  • Very cool! Doing what you feel is right for you, not what people say you can't do. I never could run due to my health, more less 50 miles. WOW! Proud of you young lady. Wish nothing but great things for you!

  • She makes me feel like a bitch.

  • @InsaneBillykane you probably are...

  • i can barely do 2 mi lol.

  • damn....she's a beast!

  • Amazing. This kid will go on to accomplish great things in her life. If she ever feels doubt in anything she does...she just need to remind herself of this day.

  • This is awesome. :)

  • running mom at ur side very touching and me i am participating fun run marathon for almost 25 yrs now and im still alone.

  • hers destiny to be a good marathoner damn running 50 mile for a beginer i salute u this girl beats me i started my marathon at 5k----10k-----21k..............100k. u inspired me.

  • Oh my god! She is so inspiring and amazing. I'm nearly 15 and I can barely run 7 miles. Did the race not have an age limit on it? At the end, she didn't even look out of breath! Its totally unbelievable and if she's like this now, how will she be running in 10 years time? Oh and to all the haters? Just stfu because you couldn't do it ;)

  • wow and when I ran the American River 50 in 2008 i was 17. and this kid Michael Kanning was 16. everyone was stunned that we both finished.. I wonder where Kanning is today, probably running the Hundreds at 18..

But you keep it up girl. you got the spirit. god this story makes me want to get back out on the trail.

13 years old. damn your awesome.

  • I was so happy after getting a sub 20 min 5k... now I realize that's nothing compared to what these people are doing. These guys are amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • Great job

  • all i got to say is, she is a beast!!!

  • I don't think my comment went through. Sorry if this is posted twice...

There are some who don't agree with a 13 yr old running an ultramarathon. You know what? If she's fit enough (and obviously she is) then what's the problem?

To the girl who ran. You did an amazing job! Way to go! You're an inspiration not only to other teens but to adults too! Keep up the good work!

  • @amethystrse you gotta realize that they don't JUST let her do it. She had to prove herself first.. I am sure that her mom HAD to be with her the whole time as a liability. when i ran 50 my grandma had to run with me the last 20 miles otherwise they wouldn't let me race. they dont want some kids to think they can do it and just sign up willy nilly.they need to know for sure that she could.. This girls story is amazing regardless.

  • @deadhead507461 Oh I totally understand that. There's a whole process that's involved. I still say she did an amazing job! I know I can't run a 50 (yet)!

  • I don't see the harm in it. Why not let her? She's not going to do any permanent damage unless she does something stupid, and something tells me doing it with her mom will help keep that from happening.

  • Marcolosch. If she really wants to do this why shouldn't she be allowed? I personally know this girl. i was in her class for a while and i know for a fact that she wanted to and loved running more than anything.

  • MacKenzie you are amazing!

    this is lauren btw.

and i just wanted to say don't listen to all these silly people, they all know that if they could they would totally kill to be you!

and i don't think your mom is crazy for letting you do it, i think it's an amazing opportunity. i can't wait to see you excel in running. you are too good!

congrats on the jfk this year too=]

  • She was amazing this year. She improved by over an hour.

  • thats not ok, thats a child...

  • First, you're most likely not an athlete. Second, your probabally a Conservative.

Third, this young lady was already and accomplished athlete before the 50 miler.

Fourth, I'm a triathlete and marathoner, and every race I see prodigious young people doing great in the races.

In the way that some young people are ready for college at 13, she's ready for an ultramarathon at 13.

  • What does being conservative have anything to do with it? Besides, I agree with him completely, mostly 'cause I'm jealous. :-P

  • Conservatives think they know what's best for everybody else and their children. Consider Bill O'reilly. (Truthfully, my proir comment was a bit of a tirade; I really don't know if he/she is a conservative at all : )

  • I was going to think of a counter example to prove you wrong, but I can't do it so you win this one.

On a completely unrelated note, what was the hardest part about your first marathon? I'm running my first one in March, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Congratulations for planning to run your first marathon. The marathon, as they say, starts at mile 20. The last six miles can be tough. So, make sure to prepare yourself by sticking to your training schedule and doing ALL of your long-runs -- the longest of which should be between 22 and 26 miles. March 1st is 13 weeks away, and a good marathon schedule can last any where from 12 - 16 weeks. Good luck! Enjoy it! and watch out for those Conservatives : )

  • @LittleMegha uuum that's quite the generalization. All African Americans do drugs and hold firearms. Consider Snoop Dogg.

  • ya I know. But read the whole thread.

  • Pffft, overgeneralization,

  • Really cool!

  • Beautiful story. Thanks.

  • f ing badass

  • Asinha de urubú...

    ..tetinha de galinha.

Se vc já deu o cú...

    ...dê uma risadinha!"

  • great mom very good story

  • Hmmmm....her race results don't really seem to show her burning out...You can't just make statements like you running expert you.

  • very impresive that she can run that far but...

she is doing some realy damage to her body.. she is just going to burn out in a few years.

    Nice running though

  • @gautlet996 She won't burn out, she'll just keep getting better and better. They wouldn't let a 13 year old run 50 miles if they had serious concerns over her health.

  • @SuperDuperMuch you dumb fuck she will burn out. and they only need a guardian's signature to run the ultra.

  • @idkwhattoput1233 No she won't. She's super fit. And that guardian wouldn't sign if she wasn't up for it and besides, they wouldn't let her do it if they were concerned about her cause she's so young, whether she had the signature or not. She's got a talent so do us all a favour and stfu. k bbz?

  • Comment removed

  • she's doing it again this year-saw here on the list of entrants!

  • super effort,well done

  • Incredible. Most of us train hard for one day being able to cross the 42K line and a 13 years old girl does it twice and looks even fresh. I doubt it is healthy but anyway she transfers in her words a real spirit of sport love. And her running mechanics look very very very good. WOW, just WOW. Her mental strength has to be incredible.

  • This girl is awesome. Anyone who says otherwise has never attepted anything even close to great in there life. I am training for my first jfk 50 miler and this little girl is my inspiration. Semper Fi.

  • its running wats crazy about it

  • she is not a record holder or anything.

  • Hope shes fit enough

  • if she did a few of these it would definitely stunt her growth, but only doing 1 shouldn't be too harmful

  • how would it stunt her growth?

  • you let a 13 year old run 50 miles with no training because she wanted to do it?

  • pretty much. she had training from xc though, and past marathons

  • Obviously she did it. Now parents won't even let their kid try...and we wonder why we have so many apathetic young adults.

  • Mr. Crazy. You need to stop with that. You know she probably moniters the sites (and mabye even posts on them...) Do you think that her mother would appreciate you calling her a retard? no. And she is not stupid. She is actually an honor student at her school. This race has not affected her at all. She is still improving in XC and track at school. Leave the poor girl alone.

  • your the ultra marathon girl arent ya? haha

  • no, I'm wonder woman

  • how many kilometers are 50 miles???

  • 50 x 1.609 kilometers...

  • About 80.

  • I see you're an expert physiologist.

  • you're porbably ruining your body by sitting there watching this, mi gordito

  • wow, now i feel wimpy for just doing the half marathon. I didnt know the ultramarathon existed!

  • That's okay, you'll get there someday!!!

  • Fantastic & well done to the Mum for having the courage to help her daughter do this. A wonderful achievment & memory for both of them. I've done 4 marathons & can't imagine how 50 miles feels. To walk that would be a feat. Good job guys. Total respect to you both.

  • Oh yeah she only runs 5 or 6 miles an hour

  • its an amazing feat but i wonder if there are any negative health affects because this is still a young girl thats developing and the strain she must be putting on her body is alot

  • there are many and she is stupid for not doing it before she turns 19

  • amazing well done to her

  • Very well done! As for the negative comments, anybody that can run 50 miles will probabl have the constitution to deal with a few haters on youtube.

Young lady, the sky is the limit. I look forward to following your career!

  • wow u made me cry lil girl!

  • Let's see you do that well at 13.

  • that's a lame response.

  • Get a kife she's 13

  • Your comment is way out of line, she's 13 for goodness sake i'd like to see you do it at 13. I think she's brilliant even if she did walk and take breaks it's a free world, well little one.

  • Your comment is way out of line, I wouldn't think that you ever done something like that at 13, give the girl some credit, she could be like a lot of kids her age out smoking and drinking these days but she decided to do a positive thing with her life and still you begrudge her of her success, you are totally lame, and really need to stop begrudging people and celebrate human achievement, people like you are the reason why nothing is good enough for people in todays society.

  • good job girl.. im not really sure if that's completely healthy for her at that age. but if it is more power to her thats really good!

  • This is a great video...I'm very impressed...this girl has a lot of mental strength going for her...she can use it anywhere in life.

  • good job mckenzie!!

  • wow, she has heart. im running the marine corps marathon in october, and i think she'll be my motivation.

  • Beautiful video!

  • First off, I want to say great to that girl that she did a great job. Secondly, I have not read the negative comments to which others are referring, and I don't want to, but I guess some people will always be small. Heck, Jesus Christ was crucified because some people got their egos hurt and got a little embarrassed. Good work MacKenzie.

  • Thanks for helping me motivating myself to go outside on the track and push myself forward. Some day I wanna do an ultramarathon too!

  • That's really awesome.

Everyone with the negative remarks have serious ego issues. But I think that goes without saying.

  • Nice work Mac. Hope you'll continue with ultras, perhaps get a 100 miler under your belt as well. :-)

  • Are you people serious? It's not like she is doing it for glory, just for fun. Look at her face at the end!

  • I congratulate this young lady however, that is an awful lot of stress on her young developing body. I have 3 children 14, 12 and 11 years old. They all would like to eventually run a full marathon with me. I do not want by 14 year-old running that distance yet(he is in a cross-country team). That is just my feelings. I just think that she is very young to have her body undergo all that strain. To finish a marathon(26.2)in itself with a decent time is taxing to the human body. Good Luck!!

  • I wouldn't worry so much. When I was 14 I did 30km runs with almost no training and no understanding of heart rate zones or nutrition or any of that. I ground through it and it hurt but I persevered and am 28 years old today with no health issues. I'm even doing an Ironman triathlon in 8 weeks.

Oh yeah, I also did a lot of multi-day backpacking in those years and had no problems.

I think if you ensure they train appropriately, your kids will have no problems competing in long distance

  • That's not very nice Mr. poet

    What if she read that?

  • this has inspired me to this ultra marathon in 5 years

  • why wait 5 years???

  • I would want to train for it and finish it as decent as I can

When I did my first half marathon at the time I only ran 5K races before and I never ran anything more that a 5K on my own

After the half marathon I was sore for 2 weeks

So seeing if I just do an ultra marathon without a good amount of training for it I can probably hurt myself

  • i think five years is a long time to train though,i did a 50 miler ultramarathon a week ago and ,due to injury, had only done a maximum of thirty miles, still did int in well under 10 hours, with zero problems, you could train for a big race in 12 month,5 years is too long!!

  • Maybe she could not train because she was running cross country and her coach would not allow

  • Makes me want to do it!

  • @PxxSxxP good luck
