@JefferstChmilst i did not notice till you said that then had a hard look and i was like yeah except he probobly doesnt do shit movies to get attention
Lanegan music is the world to me.... Can't even explain the impact. So many moments in his work, that put perspective, appreciation in this world. A deep kind of thought....
Lanegan's Library of music has been a "Bible" for me since 1991 when I first heard the Screaming Trees......"Whiskey for the Holy Ghost" is the best Album he has ever made... the album set the tone for so many other artists of the 90's and beyond... He is a true "Unsung Hero" for the music industry... Love him!
@RaiderTatum with you on that my friend. i actually tracked in the studio where most of " whiskey" was done and the master tapes just happened to be pulled that day and sitting nearby. i was so tempted to snatch them up like a stolen 12 pack and head for the door. but i figure it's best to leave the myths untouched. besides, i'm a pretty slow runner..
@TheWifi69 If he could hold Marks cigarette, Marks been there... All you Tom Waits fans love to compare, Marks the greatest songwriter / singer of my genera hands down!
while at fisrt hearing and not being familiar with Mark Lanegan, he does sound like a Waites copy, but having heard more of his stuff I agree they are very different in both style and performance. It was just unfortunate that my introduction to Mark Lanegan was this song. i've since become a bit of a fan.
@simon9264 if it was that easy to consciously copy a ground shaking bass singing voice, i would have done it already. if Mark wasn't a singer, i'd call him a fucking dickhead and make him give me his voice box
@simon9264 they have similar voices. lanegan is getting older too. he's going to sound more and more like waites, there's nothing he can do about that. even so there's still something very distinctive about both their voices. lanegan has something going on there that waites doesn't and vice versa. but, superficially, I'd agree if you haven't listened a lot of both them it would be little tough to know who it was if you had to guess. but I'd recognize lanegan here immediately.
@simon9264 Although the two sound somewhat similar, they are very different. Tom Waits has a "I just got done gargling scotch and cigarette ash" type voice where Lanegan has a "I've been smoking since I was 5" type voice. So Waits has a harsher voice whereas you will still here Lanegan harmonize more and stuff. I love em both.
@romanpr1nce why bring that negative shit to this lanegan is great song is amazing he does a great job!! if you dont like it stop listening and go somewhere else no need to be a cock and leave a negative comment
@cRaBuLaR because this is the comment section, in which people voice their opinions. you have every right to speak your opinion, and i mine. this guys singing sucks to me, if that hurts your feelings, too bad.
@romanpr1nce well that is true im just saying why leave negative comments you dick??? you after some attention buddy? well if thats what you need go fuck yourself im sure people listening to this will also give you the middle finger!
@cRaBuLaR getting angry because some people don't like what you like is a sign of a low IQ. i do not care if differing opinions upset you so, you could try counting to 10, breathing deeply, and mature yourself a little bit.
i still think he sucks, my position is unchanged, and i don't give a fuck if it hurts your feelings.
@mysticblade35 On it's own his voice isn't too bad, and no I haven't heard his other songs.
The only problem I really had with this cover, and it's nothing personal against his talent, is that when compared with Johnny Cash's version, he coveys far less emotion. That's all, and that's what makes Johnny Cash great in a lot of ways. He puts way more emotion in his songs.
I have nothing against Lanegan and I'm sure he's a great artist, this song just isn't for him in my opinion.
@kuno1253 Is that wrong? I'd be a "Tom Waits wanna be" too, if I had enough tallent. I love Tom Waits and consider him one of the most talented musicians alive, but I would say that even with a somewhat similar voice, Mark is still a unique and amazing songwriter. I do think you have a point though, he obviously chose his genetics to physically look like Tom ;b
@MysTerYDeaDmaN Ca me perturbe depuis que j'ai vu le film (c'est à dire hier) pour moi, c'est la version de Johnny Cash, pourtant, c'est lui qu'on retrouve sur la BO..
@jvsmith77 i would imagine that, since Will Ferrell probably never had really long hair, Will Ferrel looked like the Mark Lanegan in this picture before Mark did. either way, that's a bizarrely defensive correction to make in the first place.
Reminds me of "Don't get hung up in your soul" by Richard Hawley
