The bottom line is this. The unions bankrupted GM. To demand that the taxpayers fund the union contract is ridiculous. The government has nothing to do with it. The bottom line is this: problem gamblers bankrupted our entire economy. The lack of health care reform & investing the $ made in the 90s, owed to retirees, into overseas production instead (away from U.S. bankruptcy jurisdiction) "bankrupted" GM. The UAW agreed to historic concessions in 2007. Ford is making billion-dollar profits with a labor contract "worse" than GM & Chrys. Let's be more outraged by million $ bonuses for criminals than forced wage discounting for workers, by DC & Wall St.

Don't care. Here's my bottom line. The UAW and the affiliated companies can reach whatever unsustainable agreements they want. When reality catches up , as common sense dictates it will, don't come demanding that the tax payers bail you out. Don't care, huh. Understand this: what is really unsustainable is a country of minimum wage workers - which is exactly where your logic (the corporate agenda) leads. Do you think our economy will ever improve if no body can buy a car, home, college degree, health care, at race-to-the-bottom wages? No. Why do u think so many of us are in debt in the first place!? Why do I feel like I'm arguing with list of talking points? You identify Wall St. as criminals and yet there you stand right beside them at the taxpayer trough demanding that everyone else pay for your own failed business model. It may shock you to know that these folks agree with you re: gov bailouts. But they were not about to fall on their swords while Goldman & Co. get rescued w/o repercussion. Due to the gov. loan (not bailout) UAW members were forced into contracts further cutting benefits, work rules, wages & even the right to strike. Meanwhile, no such concessions were even asked of the banks. Their "employees" earn billions in bonuses. The double standard is class based, & these folks r calling 'em on it.

@BonerMaroner I thought using words would be the way to go since I am writing here. Do you have a better suggestion? You are correct in that I do hate the truth of what unions have become. I make a good living being compensated for what I am worth to my employer. Not by joining a gang and extorting a higher wage by threating and being responsible for disruption , harassment and sometimes even physical violence if I don't get my way. The behavior of modern unions is criminal and self defeating.

Bloombergs numbers now have the Bankster Bailout close to 30 TRILLION DOLLARS ! I don't know the details of the specific incidents you are referring to. I do know that the UAW has a proud history of promoting racial equality since its very inception, through Reuther's support of Dr. King, all the way up through being among the first supporters of Pres. Obama. Cherry-picking members of any group and extrapolating their behavior to represent the entire group is as bad as what you are accusing.

WoW! It blow my mind that a UAW retieree talk about how he is going to lose his pension if the bail out is not pass and how he work at GM for 36yrs and that entitle him for the pension. HOLY CRAP! Who the hell going to foot my pension if the company that I work for go under? Where the heck is this entitlement come from? Companies fail all the time. Should American bail out every fail company and keep its workers pension?

i know it's a bit late to reply to this, but the gov. insures pensions. If they destroyed all gm pensions than the gov. would foot the bill. Any uninsured and unemployment checks also are gov. money...which is our money. Living in Georgia I had little to do with the GM issue, but as an educated individual I was for loans, and in retrospect the company is doing far better than expected. I think bankruptcy wasn't necessary, as GM hasn't sold off the parts it promised, but it still is improving.

Citizens should get these specific questions answered -- & if there IS no plan, Shelbey & those like him, need to get to work, work harder, & longer, more days in session per month, per year, & get the people's work done.
