Just a reminder for the historical revisionists: France fought WW1 essentially by herself, and won. Then in WW2 they just said 'fuck it, you guys get to fight now.' But even then they kept on fighting the Germans from North Africa to Paris. Heck, my great uncle was shot down and escaped to Spain because the Resistance helped him!

The British had a peak of 4 million men fighting in the trenches. The Americans had maybe a million. Thats still far less than the number of Poilus.

Just a reminder for the historical revisionists: France fought WW1 essentially by herself, and won. Then in WW2 they just said 'fuck it, you guys get to fight now.' But even then they kept on fighting the Germans from North Africa to Paris. Heck, my great uncle was shot down and escaped to Spain because the Resistance helped him!

@DonJoPalma Don't believe me, do the research. The French had a population of 39.6 million and had 1.4 million military deaths. Thats more men than the entire American Expeditionary Force. The British had a peak of 4 million men fighting in the trenches. The Americans had maybe a million. Thats still far less than the number of Poilus.
The war was fought primarily by France. Deal with it.

@Shatnerpossum France may have suffered 1.4 million deaths, but that was only because they were so pathetic at staying alive, the 'mighty' maginot line served simply as a speed bumb as to Hitlers success. And the reasons you may think France fought so hard in these wars is because large parts of them were fought on French soil that they may as well have handed over to the Germans, leaving the real Allied nations to fight inch for bloody inch to reclaim them.

UK had 885138 military deaths but the British Imperial Forces had 1.11 million
Russia had 1.81 million military deaths, being the highest percentage of military deaths
And the thing is, the number of people mobilized (or killed) does not reveal if some country fought the war (almost) by itself... you've got to see things like tec and funds...

@DonJoPalma I have a few insecurities, and none of them are involved here. Why do I take the time to call someone out? Because I love history and I have no patience or tolerance for people who mess with it.
You need to take into account size of the army and the casualties as compared to population to gauge how much each nation sacrificed. And since France had 39.6 million people compared to the UK's 45.4 million and the US's 92 million...

@Shatnerpossum (sorry for the length) take a look at Portuguese forces, for instances... Although their low interest in war (almost 0), they really small number and almost no technology, they were able to perform miracles only by bravery! There are several Portuguese soldiers burried and honored by the enemy, there are some paintings illustrating the bravery of the Portuguese Expeditionary Corp... of course they didn't fought the war alone lol, but despite the small number, gave an important aid

They even surrendered in the face of Hitler, whereby most other countries fought to a bloody end, especially Russia where small pockets of fighters held firm throughout German occupied areas until their defeat at the conclustion of WW2.
