Jow45metal, start small. Master some simple card tricks and learn to palm coins. Do the tricks for little kids and see how amazed they are. This might give you an idea of how someone with millions of dollars to use and years of training and experience can do tricks that a commoner like yourself can't figure out.

When people say shit like what you just said, it lets me know they have absolutely no respect for the art of magic. There are real magicians who spend hours practicing difficult sleight of hand so they can show you magic in front of your face, WITHOUT camera tricks. That's REAL magic. Almost everything Criss does is done in front of actors and using trick photography. It's a slap in the face to people like Lance Burton, Jeff McBride, Bill Malone, and also to Penn and Teller.
"Real" magic involves supernatural occurrences and doesn't exist. Skillful slight of hand and tricks are indeed impressive and worthy of audience but they're still entertainment. Action movies almost always use camera tricks for illusion and entertainment, are you pissed at them too? As long as the performer is straight forward about his methods, again, what's the problem? I don't particularly like Criss Angel either, but he's free to provide entertainment to people willing to pay for it, right?
I can tell the difference, I just don't care. If it's all smoke and mirrors and illusions anyway, why not utilize additional tools to make those illusions safer, more convincing, easier, cheaper, etc? If you don't like performers who use such shortcuts, then don't pay to see them. Thanks for posting this! My children are schooled by me and my hero, Mr. James Randi. They LOVE Criss Angel (they are girls, I think part of the love is that he is HOT, but he's an awesome performer too), but I always explain to appreciate the MAGIC and ILLUSION, not assume he has some power from God (or Satan, whatever). But it is still ok to be impressed because I don't know many who could even make it appear real.

That's kinda the point. He leaves the idea in your head that it may be actual magic. Even if, rationally, you know it to be an illusion. He only needs that little bit of doubt to fool you for an instant with an amazing trick that you can't quite figuere out how he pulled it off. That's "magic".

Criss Angel lets people know where he's coming from all the time, this interview is an example of this. If he actually wanted people think he had supernatural powers, he wouldn't be saying the opposite in interviews and such. He's playing a character in his show, that's obvious. He says it as it is if he's being talked to in a real-life context.

They say outright that they're not out to trick people into thinking that they have powers or anything. If people do, that's their own problem.
The Pope on the other hand is FAR worse. He actually perpetuates the idea that he's somehow divine and encourages or even demands that people pay him because of it. Now that's evil.

When people say shit like what you just said, it lets me know they have absolutely no respect for the art of magic. There are real magicians who spend hours practicing difficult sleight of hand so they can show you magic in front of your face, WITHOUT camera tricks. That's REAL magic. Almost everything Criss does is done in front of actors and using trick photography. It's a slap in the face to people like Lance Burton, Jeff McBride, Bill Malone, and also to Penn and Teller.

"Real" magic involves supernatural occurrences and doesn't exist. Skillful slight of hand and tricks are indeed impressive and worthy of audience but they're still entertainment. Action movies almost always use camera tricks for illusion and entertainment, are you pissed at them too? As long as the performer is straight forward about his methods, again, what's the problem? I don't particularly like Criss Angel either, but he's free to provide entertainment to people willing to pay for it, right?

If it's all smoke and mirrors and illusions anyway, why not utilize additional tools to make those illusions safer, more convincing, easier, cheaper, etc? If you don't like performers who use such shortcuts, then don't pay to see them. It should end there, but no, you feel the need to announce to youtube that you're outraged over a breach in your own personal definition of 'real magic'. Get over yourself, dumbass.

Thanks for posting this! My children are schooled by me and my hero, Mr. James Randi. They LOVE Criss Angel (they are girls, I think part of the love is that he is HOT, but he's an awesome performer too), but I always explain to appreciate the MAGIC and ILLUSION, not assume he has some power from God (or Satan, whatever). But it is still ok to be impressed because I don't know many who could even make it appear real.

Folks, Chris Angel does not suck, he doesn't use "just" trick photography. And no, there is no such thing as "real" magic. Of course he's an atheist like all good magicians because they know how all the supposed supernatural tricks are performed. His act is just an act. he is happy to state such in his book, that all magic done by all magicians, illusioists, mentalists, "psychics" etc is just tricks, cold readings, and slieght of hand. It's hilarious when people say "5% of magic is real"

Yes, why does he wear that cross? Strange. I'm surprised that Jilette did not ask him about that. Perhaps he simply likes to wear provocative symbols, like Jim Morrison used to do. Not sure. I would be surprised if he believed in any form of religion. Even Houdini railed against the "medium" and certainly came to an atheistic point of view. AT least I think he did, but I'm not totally up on houdini.

I have heard him say that he does have a belief in God, now whether or not that is the Christian God or not.. But, even if that is true, he has said there is NO supernatural power to his illusions. I'm glad he revealed the trick with the twins. That had me fooled when I saw it!

That's kinda the point. He leaves the idea in your head that it may be actual magic. Even if, rationally, you know it to be an illusion. He only needs that little bit of doubt to fool you for an instant with an amazing trick that you can't quite figuere out how he pulled it off. That's "magic".
