Today is my first time hearing David play, and I am completely blown away. He is AMAZING! One of the greats of this generation as well as those proceeding him!

Yes, I guess this version is the 'better' one compared with the one Rose put out...it is slower and more intense, but I can enjoy both...as long as David is playing it!!!

I've finally figured it out. Whereas with most musicians I have seen (even the most fabulous ones!), I think to myself, "Wow, look at how well they play that instrument. They really bring it to life!" With David, it seems less like he is simply playing the violin and more like he is merely using it as a medium- the music is coming directly from him; the instrument is nearly irrelevant. Too beautiful!

It seems he is better with dynamical music like "He is a pirate". I like Sarah Chang's "Meditation" better.

I disagree that he's better at playing "crossover" music. Comparing 2 great violinists is quite hard to do, particularly, when one's a man and one's a woman. Their interpretation WILL BE quite different, I'm sure. But to see David's technical proficiency with the emotion he brings to the piece is quite heart rendering. He is charismatic, not only for his handsome looks, but for the vulnerability whicht he exudes. This is a rare quality in a man and this is the main reason I disagree.

He's the only young violinist today who plays like the greats of fifty years ago. He has that sound, he has that big line and the agogic. Although they are completely different, somehow he reminds me of Michael Rabin (in live concerts) it's somehow the same charisma. Not even to mention the staggering technical facility.

I dont know what is more funny, that you consider him to be at the same level of Heifetz, Oistrach, rabin etc. or that you think he is the only young violinist that plays like that.

I am not saying that he is bad, but he is a fucking joke compared to the greats of 50 years ago, he is a joke compared to many many young violinists of today.

You want examples? Repin, Vengerov, Philippe Quint and many many others are much better than him.

@Underheifetz Good grief, all I said is that his playing reminds me of the violinists I used to hear as a little kid.It's not so much a comparison of quality,as of an emotional response to this performance, a response I don't have to many of the younger generation.I don't mean to be patronizing, but if you had heard Rabin or Oistrakh live, you'd know exactly what I mean.Why do you think Ida Haendel,Isaac Stern,Yehudi Menuhin were all so fascinated by Garrett?But,it's all subjective,right?

Sieht man Garrett spielen, denkt man, er wird eins mit seinem Instrument -- es existiert nur ihn. Ständig ist der Bogen auf den Seiten , er gibt ihnen Leben: zartes, entschlossenes und ein schönes!.
