  • Love. This is Song

  • Great song!

  • 7 people lost the game

  • This is my favorite of favorites!!!

  • Many artists have covered this song, but this is the very best.

  • I remember "It's all in the game" by Tommy Edwards,he sounded like Nat'King' Cole and Frankie Laine.1958,USAF,Selfridge,AFB,Mi.

  • Tommy Edwards was born on this date in 1922 {Feb. 17th}

Sadly he passed away on October 22nd, 1969... R.I.P.

  • I fell in love dancing to this song when I was courting my.... wife to be

After 50 years.... it's still has that romantic aura.

    Sixtyschild1

  • I was 2 years old when Mr. Edwards did this version of the song he did years earlier. I continue to enjoy music of this era and type ... Phil Pillips; Ray Charles, Gogi Grant, Bobby Darin, and so many others. Granted, I listen music ranging from Led Zepplin, Eagles, Bob Marley, Glenn Miller, and Mozart and Venessa Mae ... But have a special spot for This Song and Richmond, VA Mr. Tommy Edwards. Thank you for Sharing.

  • Welpers, I used to sit in Meekers diner in N. Syracuse, NY as a young man waiting to go to work at J.M. Fields as a stock clerk. I rode to work with my parents who worked earlier, so I had to wait for the store to open. I drank coffee and played Tommy's song over and over. I am sure the counter guy was glad when I finally went to work. It still stirs my heart.after so many years. :)

  • without doubt, one of the best songs EVER.

  • It was number one 1 at Billboard when my Mum was born. She died the same day 54 years later. I miss You Mummy. Rip

  • Im 51 and wish i had a time machine..

  • A haunting melody.

  • Im 14 and I love Oldies like this. I actualy prefer theses to the ones from my Generation. I want a time machine. <3

  • @zanessalouver101 Agreed :)

  • This could be my favorite, but there are so many great hits of this era. Please find me a Time machine to take me back, to the 40,50,60s.

  • They don't make lovely songs like this anymore. I feel sad for today's young music lovers.

  • Go on tommy.............Limey geezer geezer

  • #696

  • Number one right after I was born in 1958.

  • Anyone here Because of mafia 2???

  • A classic. One of my top ten greatest songs. I am taken to a different place when i hear it. I believe many people will know what i mean if they hold this song dear to their hearts.

  • I was born in October 1958. I remember my Father singing to this wonderful song in the shower just weeks before he left my life forever. This song will remain in my heart until the day I die. I have asked that it be played at my funeral one day to help me with my transition

  • @50sGirly18: thanks for that very touching story. I can appreciate what that song means to you as it means to your Mom...I went to Vietnam in 66 through 67. That song was an old fav of mine back in my grade school days...58 when I was in the sixth grade.

  • I was 10 coming home for lunch from St. Pats and hearing this on the radio while my big sister danced around the house.

  • This is a FANTASTIC piece of music. Superb voice.

  • Sierria64 - Fabulous song - The words mean it all. My support for your bloke over there and may he come home to share a great life with you. Warmest regards to you - Graham Melb Aus

  • You have to be an idiot not to like this song.

  • St.Louis Mo. Teen Town South Side - Slow Dance this was the best ! 1960 Yeah!

  • Number one song when I was born Oct.17, 1958. Beautiful song!

  • Number one when I was born November 1 1958. Suits me well.

  • Love the Doo wop amongst this....beautiful song.....

  • Saint louis missouri around 1960 somewhere. Leffingwell and st louis ave. I know this song came out a little before that time, but songs had a lot of staying power back then. I went to columbia school, and i remember this song on the radio katz with Dave Dixon. God those were the days. My grand children think these are the times but i don't care what they say: the times are not and won't ever be like those times. I wasn't stress like these children today.

  • #1 song on my birthday, October 13, 1958. When I looked it up I didn't recognize the song from the title and I had never heard of the artist, so I came here to listen to it and found that I had heard the song before. Not a bad song, but very old-fashioned, so it just confirms to me how old I actually am! wahhhh!

  • Love the "Four Tops" version, but this is my favorite! Thanks for the post. :)

  • Stationed at then Camp Irwin, California and would spend as much time as possiblle at the snackbar drinking coffee and feeding the jukebox. A beautiful song.

    Ron

  • On my birthday as well, Oct 6 1958

  • @drdivo My birthday too. :)

  • This song was the #1 hit on my birthday - 29 September, 1958. Of course I don't remember it then, but I heard it a lot while growing up. One of the best songs to slow dance to.

  • It's the only #1 pop song that I can think of with that background

  • This osng has an unusual pedigree. The music was written by a former Vice-President and a Nobel Peace Prize winner Charles G. Dawes

  • You gotta love this one...

  • I sure did'nt know in 1958 that 4 years later i would be in the Air Force.

  • One of the greatest "slow dance" tunes of our generation...

    ;-)

  • Remember this playing in American Hot Wax when Alan Freed relaxed with a cold one?

  • I just turned eighty but I can close my eyes and I am eighteen again while listening yo all of these great songs from the late 40's,50's and 60's.

  • @PhillyC bless your heart!!!my brother died 2 years ago//he could sing and act .

  • It never ceases to amaze me that there are people out there with such unique voices such as Tommy Edwards. This is such an awesome song I just love to listen it every day. What a song, what a talent!

  • Our parents broke us up, I am still playing this song all these years later and remembering.

  • Great song, thanks for uploading for us..

  • This is a beautiful song sung by a great artist. May Tommy Edwards rest in peace. We miss him greatly and the memories he helped create.

  • I was at Camp Irwin now Fort Irwin when this came out. I donated many a quarter to hear this.

    Ron

  • this song is full of emotion, we all have our own memories, and they all tug at our heartstrings.

    lovely song.

  • May the Lord comfort you in the loss of your father in VN. I too was a Huey pilot there, and every time I hear this song it reminds me of my one true love that I joined the army to try to run from a broken heart. Still my favorite song of all time, and still makes me sad.

  • @sierra64--that was one of the saddest entries I have ever read on YouTube. War sucks and I often think that when a soldier is killed in combat or by other non-combat related means at least five survivors are devastated and left to pick up the pieces. I missed Viet Nam by four years and I thank my lucky stars that I was born in 1956 instead of 1951 or I probably wouldn't be writing this. May the day come when all are American troops are home and may we use the Army sparingly in the future!

  • It was different than, and ---it was better than, this was part of what real music was about and really enjoyed, No noise, no stunts, ho rush to the racks for a quick sale ~

  • Five people are vacuming

  • In 1958 I was a 16 yr old with a broken heart. Loved this song. Got over it, of course.

  • @jawja100 Still love the song.

  • 50's Girly... I was in Viet Nam in 1966-67 and danced to this song when I was at my first and very best dances in junior high. Your post and this song is making me cry, too. No kidding. May God Bless you and your father.

  • Wonderful slow dance right here!

    Just beautiful!

  • This is as smooth as velvet..with a sophisticated brilliance....beautiful lyrics...this is smashing..superb

  • My father loved this song. This was from the era when he was around 30 yrs. old. He and my mother married at the end of Dec. 59'. I can imagine them listening to this back in the day. Everytime I here this song I remember him liking it. Miss you every day Dad. R.I.P.

  • This song sounds relaxing to me.

  • I adore this song! I have it in my CD collection. I wish they had songs like this today.

  • Great song

I can rember this song at "sock hops" at the high school gyn.

Great time to squeeze the chickees.

  • What happened to the great music? Those were the days, and I was only 6 at the time. But I remember!!!!

  • One of my favorite 50's songs, I remember at 9 years old my mom always had the radio on she'd pick up one of us kids and dance to this song.

  • I have been going down memory lane recently and came across this by accident. Was my old dad's favourite and he was 95 this year. Thanks for uploading it.

  • From one of my favorite movies American Hot Wax:)

  • On Oct 3, 1958

"It’s All In The Game" by Tommy Edwards was the #1 song.

  • They don't make music like this any more.

  • I was roller skating I think it was 1958?

They played this song at the soda shop and the girl I was with was a GODESS

    I thought I was 13 years old.

  • @cw605 What happened with you and that girl from back then?

  • awe so sorry. sending this to my girl who divorced me 32 yrs ago. We have now gotten back together. Love this song.

  • Man, they just don't make music like this anymore

  • nostalgic memories,thank you.

  • I love this song

  • This is my parents "song"..they were married in 1959 and I am blessed to still have them both..To mom and dad..my best friends I love you more than life itself..God bless you.

  • Mrs. Heartbroken, thank you so much for sharing your heart. I was only two years ahead of you in H.S. and, truly, it was a time when everybody "loved" somebody. That was caused especially by this kind of music. "Our day" was clean, well dressed, friendly, and had a whole lot of class. I was a young Marine corporal stationed in Memphis, Tenn when this song came out in 1958, and I loved it then, and I love it now. I wish you the absolute best, dear one. Ole Johnny B.

  • simply magic!

  • music is the biggest link to any part of anyone's life, But if it is not then they have lived a sad life. At the young age of 61 this is a great link in my life tks for posting

  • Awesome...

  • This is by miles, the best version of this terrific song

  • I was 108 when this came out. Still gets to me.

  • @Foreverclever87 Please tell me the secrets to longevity.

  • I believe this was realeased in 1951 and then once again in 58 read that somewhere The 50's Amazing decade

  • ... and music composed by Charles Dawes, Vice President of the United States. Lovely tune.

  • I was born in the 70's but found like-minded friends when it came to loving the oldies. I'm so glad this song was one of our great discoveries. Short, sweet, and touchingly beautiful is Mr. Edwards rendition.

  • I was 7 in 1958....my older brother and sister had the radio on all the time and I fondly remember this song.....was surprised to find out it was written by a Vice President of the US in the early part of the century.......what a great song

  • I was eight years old when this song came out! The best time of my life when I was that age was going to New Jersey for the summer to my Aunt's house. My sister and I hung out with all the kids in the neighborhood but the best part was hanging out with the teenager across the street that bought every 45 record when it hit the street. This one is special - after all these years I still remember it and love it and know that it has much sentimental value for many of you out there!!!! Memories!

  • There is no equivalency ... no one sings it better than Tommy.

My mother dedicated this song to my father in 1958 on the Art Laboe show at Scrivner's drive-in.

  • Just learned this song was #1 on the day I was born. Not bad.

  • I truely love this! Magic sound :-)

  • "WORC 1310 on your radio dial". This would play every day at 3 p.m. The song for lovers.....sweet memory and big thank you to oldiesbutgoodies62.

  • this is one of the saddest story for a singer of the 50's..with such beautiful voice, he was never successful and died a pauper

  • I remember hearing this on the radio back in the early 2000's.... we had a great oldies station which always played wonderful muic. This and "You Are My Special Angel" were my two favorites from the station.

  • Thumps up if you like Death Metal!!

  • Thumps up if you like death metal!!!

  • October Sky brought me here!

  • LOVE THIS CLASSIC!

    WONDERFUL

  • I love this record it is my most favourite of all times such a velvet voice.

  • Oh! the memories.Thank you

  • This song played after my sister was pulled away into the convent. 1958. She writes... "One nun puts her arm around me as if in greeting, but hastily whisks me away. “It will be easier this way,” she says. My dear sister. I hear the echo of Pegarty’s cry in my mind as she walks down the convent steps and enters the Chevy, while on the car radio the Four Tops sing:”Many a tear has to fall but it’s all in the game, all in the wonderful game we know as love...”

  • WHAT DOES COLOUR MATTER WHEN THEY HAVE A VOICE LIKE THIS HE WAS GREAT LOVLEY SONG I LOVE HIM

  • great song! just beautiful

  • Heart break is the price we pay for love.

  • @headley62.... so fuking true

: * ) 20.07.2011

  • Great song better than the rubbish you get out today.

  • What a lovely voice Mr Edwards

  • When I was young, young people had beautiful, wonderful, tender ballads like this to listen to. It added something immeasurable to their lives.

  • I,m 56 and lived in Richmond Va.And he lived down the road from me on pemberton road in Henrico Co.We used to help him pick apples for wine and we,d as young teens did and we drank his wine and listened to him play the piano and sing those song.

  • @r46rider We were just talking about Tommy on Facebook! I'm 59 and lived near him, too. Although I didn't know him personally, some of my male friends did. One of them was telling us this evening about Tommy's wine, singing, and the piano. Did you also go over to the Round Table when he was there?

  • this was my wifes favorite song she graduated from high school in 59. thanks for the memories.

  • Oh to go back in time, when this was playing for the first time on the radio.

  • WoW - This takes me back a year or so to my motorcycling days. Leather jacket, tight jeans and the smell of petrol. Aye, the jacket only covers half of the diameter and the jeans come up to my knees LoL, as my son says "Dad, you are suffering from the gravitational pull".

May the slow dance I had with this one and not forgetting the Platters with Smoke Gets in Your Eyes – THOSE WERE the days.

  • A very Favorite Song, this song and the Legend Tommy Edwards.

    Knew what Love is!

    Great Voice!

  • My mom loved this song....and now I do. One of many songs that remind me of mom.

  • Oh, how I remember dancing to this with my sweetheart so long ago. The sounds and aroma of that night are forever etched in my mind and heart. Your love was so great and bittersweet. I will always remember the innocence of that time. What a time it was!

  • I had a big fight with the love of my life (my fault) at the age of 17. I listened to this song for the summer after graduation from H.S, in June of 1958 and hoped he'd come back to me........we did get back together at a dance in the fall of 1958 and married in 1959. He was the love of my life.....we were married for 46 yrs. until a heart attack took him away from me forever. That's why I love this beautiful song. Mrs. heartbroken.

  • @50sGirly18 I was a year younger and my boyfriend joined the army in July of 1958. Had a few disagreements and I listened to this and Please Love me Forever all summer and fall of '58. We did get married too, but unfortunately 12 years and 6 children later we were divorced. It is good that you were able to be together for so long. I have always loved this song and wished things turned out differently.

  • @50sGirly18 And, look at the wonderful years you has together.. My wife and I will soon be logging in 30 years..I don't know you, but, I am sincerely, deeply happy for you..

  • @50sGirly18 So happy for you that you two got back together and had those wonderful 46 years together. My girl & I never got back together, and there has been a empty spot in my heart all my life.

  • @50sGirly18 Oh you WILL see him again, np. Wait and see heartbroken. Thinking of your sorrow.

  • @50sGirly18 I'M 35 I MARRIED MY WIFE AT 17 ....I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS.. BUT OLDIES IS THE MUSIC TO REMEMBER THE LOVE ONES,,,,

  • @50sGirly18 my dad went to vietnam .he died .. my mom said they slow jammed danced to this three days before he shipped out .. that was in 1969.. i was 3 yrs old then .. shot down he was a helicopter pilot..she played this for years holding his pic close to her.. dont remember much about him...but this song makes me cry mom cried for years sfter he died..over there.sgt.lamar williams us army..my husband is in afganistan now, and i listen and understand what she must have felt

  • @sierria64 This song seems to have a lot of sad memories associated with it. I hope your husband will be safe.

  • @sierria64 A touching comment. I am sure everyone will pray for your husband and all our soldiers in Afghanistan.

I was a soldier in Singapore in 1958 and this was on all the juke boxes in cafes outside our camp. With Elvis, Bill Haley, Gene Vincent and Little Richard. The songs were played so many times they became ingrained in my brain. For me each song represents a time in my life - jazz when I was young in the 1930/40s, rock in the 50s, the Beatles in 1960s. Music is a passion.

  • @sierria64 Helicopter pilot were so brave.I can`t tell you the stuff thay did.

  • @sierria64 What a sad and happy story. From one Viet vet to anothers child, have greatday and may your dad rest in peace

  • @sierria64 Bless your hearts!

  • @sierria64 You can be very proud of your dad. I served with the army in Vietnam in 1969 also. I was severely wounded almost exactly 42 years ago, Dec. 14, 1969. The helicopter pilots in 'Nam were some of the bravest and most respected soldiers over there. I'm sorry for your loss and for the waste of good young American lives in Vietnam AND Iraq.

  • @sierria64 That's a very touching story of your life experience. I have lost a daughter so I know how you feel.

    Lonney Hallum

  • @sierria64 i know where your comming from, my former husband and i were in the vietnam war, these songs still make cry, there was never any better music.i'll keep you and your husband in my prayers.

  • @sierria64 BLESS U... UR IN MY PRAYERS....NANCY

  • @sierria64 ..you made me Cry.

  • @sierria64 One of the most moving comments I've seen on YouTube. God Bless.

  • I am a big fan of The Four Tops, , they did a great hit cover of this number, however the sound of Tommy's voice is just the best.

  • A great era for music. This music made you fall in love....The Disco days got you movin'..I'm glad I lived in both times.....and don't forget Our Winter Love of the 60's....

  • One of my very most favorites from back then when I was just a kid.
