OMG, this sounds AWESOME, i am in the market for a fretless and i am new to fretless but love the sound, there is one for sale on talkbass but it is lined, i want it unlined, you make it sing....thanks for a great video.
Wonderfully melodic playing, *beautiful* tone, and the bass simple SOUNDS bigger than its 30" scale. I'd love to pick up a pair of fretted and fretless Deep 5s one day (I already own a Taylor AB-2 ABG and very much enjoy the tone of hollow & semi-hollowbodies) and I can use this video as evidence to the Better Half that, "Look, they're sound great, just listen to this!" :D
For some reason when I watch this posting I imagine you stranded on a tropical island.Happy.Not a care in the world.Just sitting there playing your Mouse bass.Hermit crab skitters by.The world and it's troubles pass you by.
This is a nice piece your playing. I also play a rob allen mouse. I like your matching headstock and thumb rest which I do not have. Did you consider a lined neck? My mouse is lined but my former fretless bass is not. I am not sure that it has made a lot of difference for me although I would like to think that it helps me with upper register intonation. What are you using for an amp? I use an acoustic image Coda R.
i decided to give myself some tough love, as i have never owned a fretless before, and just go for the unlined. its mostly for cosmetic reasons, but its also great practice for my ear. i am using the Acoustic Image contra, but you cant tell much since this video is DI through the amp. I think the bass sounds ten times better miced through the AI, the overall tone sounds more like an upright without losing the high end.
