Line item veto is not the job of the President... and it is unconstitutional. The job of deciding what gets put into a bill is the job of the senate and the house. You might want to brush up on your civics.

I never said it was unconstitutional, or even whether or not I think it's good. The point I was trying to make was: every law can be used for good, and not so good. Giuliani had no problem with the line item veto until Clinton used it to cross out millions of dollars for health aid to New York. Obviously the line-item veto can be used to cut pork, but is all pork bad?

How do you know he had no problem with the line item veto? I didn't see any recordings of him saying so. Implying that something is good or bad is the same as saying it. You implied that the line item veto was good and led the audience to believe that someone claiming it was unconstitutional was just a ploy or just politics. I'm saying that it really is, and that everyone who pledges to uphold the constitution should have their feet held to the fire on this an all other constitutional abuses.

Giuliani never spoke out against the line item veto until it affected NY. The line item veto is unconstitutional - of that there is no doubt, but that wasn't my argument. This is: The shortcomings, limitations, and loopholes in the system - any system - is hypocritical, laughable, and silly.

I hate higher taxes (who doesn't), but we're in serious debt... to China and the Middle East and many others... and we're not gonna be able to convince other countries to invest in us (especially when we're not doing anything constructive)... does anyone realize what would happen if just one country pulled funds from us (the US)?
