The Great Ernest Tubb did tributes to both the great Jimmie Rodgers and the great Hank Williams, Sr., what a great man...Ernest was influenced by Jimmie and influenced Hank...so there is a connection between the 3 kings...
i n the evening with carrie anita and me,my dad used to sing,he some times changed the names to ours.my brother and i spent over 50 yrs collecting .fist 78s.then lps. andcds.then for my 60th. birth day my sister sent me jimmie the kid by mike paris and chris comber.awonderful book with the complete discography,a must for every j.r. lover.
WOW!! Earnest Tubb had it down pat!! Didn't He?? That was flat good ( just like his PAL Jimmie at the time) Earnest didn't sound like Jimmie after he had his tonsils taken out...That's what changed his voice and it became so deep and bass'y (For those of you who didn't know!!....Ray Rogers...
Must have been one of ET's earlier recordings. It was only after his throat surgery that he had trouble carrying a tune, but his fans loved him anyway! Sing on, ET!!!!
he died very young. at the time tuberculosis was the number killer i was told. that was the cause of his death, isnt it? during my teen years, late 50s, Jimmie Rodgers was quite popular and i still enjoy his music even now.
Ernest Tubb started his career singing and yodeling like Jimmie. Many did way back then (Ernest, Gene Autry, Hank Snow, Jimmie Davis, Cliff Carlisle, etc.). They sang like him until they later found their own styles.
mrs. jimmie rodgers told Ernest tubb that it was an honor that he sung like Jimmie but to develop his own style and go with that. the rest is history!!! she and her sister Elsie Mcwilliams carried ALOT of weight in country music for YEARS though many may never have known of them.

Hi!
Never heard before! Very good! Thanks.
Love Jimmie Rodgers!
You all know that Mrs Jimmie Rodgers - Carrie Rodgers, gave Ernest Tubb Jimmie's 1928 Martin guitar - the one with Jimmie's name on the fretboard.

And greetings back, from America. You probably appreciate the Blue Yodeler more than many of his own countrymen, More's the pity.
