mein and hmong are pretty much similar on how this video explained..because the shaman ritual are the same but different languages and mein shaman ritual takes longer..almost everything mein and hmong do is the same..
i thnk it's time us new generation to step up and continue our traditions and culture. my grandparents came during that time too and he has taught me to learn the language and not forget where we came from.i want to makemy grandparents proud of me because of my accomplishments and hope to bring my grandparents back home one day and see where they grew up. that s my goal in life
I think for the mien elders coming to the US was like a trek to a new life investment, many loved their home country Laos, they feel the later generation had lost the culture pide, tradition idenity they now know their destiny is America. Life as a mien-American is easier today than it was 15 ears ago, more mien of the younger American generation are pursuing higher education today. When we compete in the pursue of higher education, it pride, not with gang, guns and violence
Qianjiadong... in Mienh it reads Cin Jaa Dongx. You're right on it Tommy and thank you for spreading that around. It is so important to know about the ancient grounds of Qianjiadong.
This would mean that the Mien are a Southern Tribe then?? Guangxi was once a land inhabited by the Yue People who are known as Zhuang, Dong and etc... Would it be that the Mien are a southern group rather than a northern group like the Qiang and Miao who later fled South.
actually, u can't really call mien ppl southern asians or anything like dat. we hav different countries to call home, we live in different parts of da world. sum chinese call mien ppl "yao", but i dislike noing my ppl wer called "barbarians". therefore, da only clear description of mien ppl, are: the nomads from the mountains. look up da secret war, mien ppl fot alogside hmong ppl for da united states against lao communists, we were better den da americans, but fewer in numbers and technology.
Efforts can be done however to preserve our culture and people. Those successful here in America have to not forget about who, what or where they came from and try to organize. There is 2 million of us, we have to group together to form a base of sort, where ever we can for our future.
I think that the Mien Culture as our parents know it will parish with them here in America. Half the young kids born today whom do not have constant contact with their grandparents do not even understand or speak mien. Our Daoist spiritual religion too will parish along with them. As far as what I know and observed, even the Mien folks in China are becoming more Chinese than Mien now. That is the sad fact of not having our own land to call our own as our nation.
Its true. The Mienh want to be Han, and I can't blame them. By far, with the privilege we've received to coming here, I think America could quite possibly be the place where we might be able to call a home now; or to at least build a foundation that we never could whether in China or Laos or Thailand. If only we were all in the same mindsets, but I can only pray for now a long with my own pursuits.
Nice, the Mien, live exactly like my Hmong people. The faces, clothings, silver jewelries are almost like my Hmong people. Let's learn the culture together. Peace.
Thanks for this film. Very much how I feel about our culture. I will not forget what my parents went through...because they fought for their lives, we are here.
First of all, Mien and hmong people may have similar experiences but that DOES NOT make the Mien "just like the hmong". Mien and hmong are CULTURALLY DIFFERENT, please respect that. There are many ethnic groups such as the akha, lue and others that have experienced this. These groups are special and should not be inaccurately associated with one another.
Our culture is not dying. It's going through a lot of changes because of the migration to America. I don't like to refer to it as dying. A lot of cultures that are exposed to American culture, tend to lose grasp of itself because it's such a big world here. What really is left is CULTURAL PRIDE, which is really the form of attachment to cultural roots. So maintain that. Mien Pride!
Mien ppl are always counted as one of 68 Laos ethnic groups. Unlike the Hmong, they came to Laos in mid 19th century, escaped from Chinese prosecution.
hey..the famous mien saying mentioned in clip"slow, think and talk"..2 of the vocabulary is similar to Cantonese: Slow = Man and Talk = Gong. So they r from China =D
To SerXiong, please be clear when you make statements like that. I have nothing against hmong people but when you simply say that we are "just like hmong" people, it makes me feel uncomfortable because it makes it seem like we are not independent of our own identity. Please don't take away from that by wrongly associating Mien and Hmong as the exact same thing. We are tied by experiences but not by culture!
hey jai jo i was wondering who sing that song toward the ending let me knoe email me at ymcbc@comcast.net
