Saw the Sunnyboys play Adelaide's Norwood Town Hall in about '83. Liked the songs enough to see them but wasn't a big fan. Then couldn't believe how hard they rocked live, really unexpectedly good gig.
classic aussie rock from a classic aussie band takes me back to my mis spent youth in the pubs ....you know back when pubs had bands not pokies and women weren't allowed in the public bar damn I miss those days
oddly, the bad quality of this recording is totally authentic and faithful to the original single....it was mastered down at low volume on the pressing, as far as I remember, so all of us with the original Phantom single (the yellow one one), had to crank up the volume.
Supposedly it was meant to improve fidelity but it means at normal sound it crackles like buggery.
So I sort of like this version - it's how it was recorded......
Makes sense about the surf sound as they are from the coast & made surf rock/pop with simple brilliance. Always had plenty of time for the Sunnyboys & any of the Oxley clan music. Thanks for the upload.
fucking awesome song....playing it at my daughter christening next month....hadnt heard till it was on underbelly series....love it.....best beat and lyrics
Wao!!! 1981, this is the year I migrated to Australia from El Salvador, couldn't speak english then, I was 21 y.o. I still live in Sydney (Western Suburbs) but I miss the Sunnyboys so much!!!!! I miss you boys where ever you are, you guys are a legend
What you dont know Kingazzaman is that Oxley is in fact Bi-polar and suffers from great bouts of depression. The drinking didn't help. One of Oz's best loved bands that didn't unfortunately make an international impact
@kingazzaman Dear kingazzaman and slimymagoo...he does not infact suffer from either of those disorders.. nor does he drink scotch... he is still making music and doing really well....
@samoman101 did u hear it played again on the Underbelly tv movie last night.Epic song underrated band, think i've got an album buried in a box somewhere in garage,if i recall it had sunflowers on the cover.Gonna go look for it .
@tiffanykate12 I went to kingy highschool, I remember my father saying the Sunnyboys were from Kingscliff and as a muso himself with his own band at the time he'd known them a little bit. Now what makes this scary is that I'm not a kid telling this story, I'm 30 years old. It just doesn't seem right that it was all that long ago.
@tosgem.... There was no such thing as Kingscliff Highschool when I started High School.... Was JUST too old.... But the Oxley's owned the Pizza Restaurant down by the front near where the Original Newsagents used to be....
First heard this song in a department store in Sydney as a teenager and became instantly hooked to the Sunnyboys. I even painted the Sunnyboys symbol all over a pair of yellow trousers my Mum made for me!

What a shame Oxley became such a fat piss-head. His genius is illustrated here but it went to shit at the bottom of a scotch bottle.

I always found that weird. I seriously thought that they'd be huge in the UK.
I love introducing Brits of my generation to the Sunnyboys - the usual response is "this is brilliant. why haven't I heard this before? "
Didn't know he was bipolar - wouldn't wish that on anyone.

what a song, one of my fav's, great post, big thumbs up!

This song from 1981 still rocks!!!
The guitar sound is copy of the 1960's "Surf Guitar" sound.
It combines 1960's melody with 1980's dance beat.
Really cool stuff!!!
