Dreyfuss and Goldblum are sell-outs. That's too bad.
The Chairman of GM was lying. GM got kickbacks from Shell during a "joint venture" to explore hydrogen fuel cells, which are a waste of time. It's a known, proven technology that is way too expensive for mass use. That "joint venture" was just a money flow from Shell. The electric car GM made was never even sold to anyone because it was not offered for sale, only for rent. GM took all the cars back and destroyed them. It's a shame.
turning around> 'dependent on oil' 2 'dependent on terrorists' (that you guys funded too)
arabs don't hate you people. we love you but the way you come to our countries and judge us, while your own economic health AND juristriction system is constantly failing next to this perfect media example of how to blame the world for using 80% of the energy sources...
I'm glad Wagoner is gone as GM CEO, no market for an electric car, but hydrogen is the answer. The knock against bio-diesel is it takes more energy to grow it than you get out of it, does anyone know the energy in/energy out numbers for switchgrass? I'd like to become a fuel farmer...
I love how the excuse is there was no place to recharge them, then he says that Hydrogen was a good call. So where do you refuel with hydrogen. Oh, you'll build the pumps? Why don't you just build the recharge stations? Lies. They can't sell you solar electricity but once. Hydrogen is expensive! Answer.
It was also largly contributed to the fact that after the EV1 came out SOMEHOW the government started offering large tax credits to truck and suv purchases. so there was an even larger incentive to not market fuel efficient cars.
Come on, Richard Wagoner, "No one wanted to buy" the EV1? People would have bought it if it was actually put out for sale rather than lease only!! And 100% lease at that!! That's why your little company is going bankrupt now. That should teach you to look forward a little longer than 6 months into the future. Try 6 years next time...if there is a next time for you.
You should get an electric conversion. I bought one from a guy in Georgia. It's great! I need new batteries, but it still goes 20 to 30 miles between charges! It recharges in about 4-6 hours. The EV1 went 165 miles per charge. For me that would be about 2 charges per week or LESS. That's about $30 per month in electricity. It makes a high sticker price look cheap!
"I have no doubt that America's love affair with the automobile will never end."
Think again, Tom. This toxic love affair can destroy America. Oil is headed to $400 per barrel, and if it doesnt rethink its wasteful suburban living arrangement, the society will be nothing but a sick and dying oil junky. Carfree is the only solution for most Americans, not fantasy automobiles, that put the price of food up.
Electric cars didn't make it because car companies were still making a killing on combustion engine cars - so why change? It would cost serious money on re-structuring in order to make electric cars. Besides....electric cars always looked f**king stupid - if they only designed electric cars that looked like futuristic sport cars or mean SUVs. I hope that it does go electric in the future, though. Electric cars + fusion nuclear power plants = success
capable of a range of 300 miles plus, and rapid charging, and with the advancement in these fields, who knows what will come next, just imagine what it will be like in two decades. Not to mention the biggest reason to go electric it the fueling/powering infrastructure IS ALREADY IN PLACE.
Hydrogen is no the answer we need, two decades is way too long!!! We need to act now, and there are solutions now! The problem with hydrogen is that A. it take more energy to make hydrogen then you get out do to loss of friction, and B. Using hydrogen will require a completely new fueling infrastructure. There are already electric cars that are perfectly
Did anyone see "who killed the electric car?" After hearing Richard Wagoner blab on about how it was a "total commercial flop" I burst out laughing. Take the Hummer example too, "we can't tell people what to buy" or "people won't plug in". Again, pure hilarity, a corporation is incapable of telling a "consumer" what to buy?! You've got to be kidding me!
@explosivetwist The producers of "Who Killed the Electric Car" is coming out with a new movie this year called "Revenge of the Electric Car." A must see.

The automobile is an American invention? I beg to differ, in school I was told it was a German invention, i.e. the first workable automobile was made by Rudolf Daimler and test driven by his wife.
Granted, Henry Ford made the first mass produced car in America.

GM: "electric vehicle was a huge flop; nobody wanted to buy it".
For a highly revealing ànd common sense documentary, which basically proves the opposite, watch 'Who killed the electric car'.

Nobody wanted to buy it?!? I DID but they would not sell me one!
No place to charge it? I have electricity in my house.
The only thing I am not buying is GM's excuses and B.S.
